  1. I think Martin from New Albany is goin 135 and not sure if Hoke is wrestling or not. It seems to me I heard someone say something about him being injured and my son said he's at practices but not working out. Guess we'll know for sure after wrestle offs!
  2. LMAO, those are the staples in my son's diet! No matter how much I tell him they are awful for him, he just ignores me! Luckily making weight has never really been an issue for him but still...
  3. If this is the case, and the parents are not supportive and the kid really wants to lose, tell him that as far as diet goes he can make better choices if not ideal ones. They take him to McDonalds for dinner? Get a grilled chicken with no mayo and a salad instead of a big mac and fries. Smaller portions at home...that kind of thing. I wish him and you luck! Sometimes all it takes is someone, anyone to take an interest to turn a kids life around!
  4. New Albany High School has three freshman that I think will make a big impact on the team, next year they will have three more and I look for those kids to make a huge difference on NAHS Wrestling over the next few years! Kids are hungry, great work ethic, super supportive parents, the room and the team will benifit with the addition of this group! 2009/2010 Freshman: Brennan Banet (160ish), Tre Marler(119?), Keenan Ward(112?). 2010/2011 Freshman Brandon Davis, Cory Troutman and Antonio Nieto. (8th grade weights 140 {look for Davis to wrestle up though, he usually does}, 120, 135). Bulldogs wrestling will be getting a great shot in the arm with these athletes!
  5. I can see that, the first time Greco was addressed with our club was when we had 4 kids qualify for SB duals in Greco this year! They do however focus on freestyle unlike some of the clubs in our area. I know one doesn't even do freestyle and their kids who do migrate over to us for that abbriviated season. We have great coaches who are willing to do whatever it takes to see our boys succed and I applaud them for their completely voluntary efforts! (Thanks Brig, Eric and Bink!) Honestly we only have a handful of boys who compete in greco but they have all been very succesful at it. I would love to see all styles of wrestling get equal time!
  6. Just to clear up the cost for schoolboy duals...it was 350 for 1 style, 375 for both, which included the entry fees and the 3 day camp. Each boy recieved 2 singlets (blue and red), 1 windbreaker type shirt, 1 team indiana shirt, 1 pair of shorts, 1 back pack, 1 blood rag and an 8x10 team picture taken by one of the coaches on a digital camera. (the extra 25 for both styles was the 2nd picture). I believe the junior duals was close to 600, but they were held in Oklahoma City (one of our club kids took 1st at state and I looked at his packet, to compare the cost LOL) It was a bit expensive, but not that bad. The singlets were nice, I saw better/cooler and I saw worse. Anyone notice Kansas' singlets had a dopplar radar screen shot? NICE! LOL (we are orginally from Kansas and I had to laugh at that one!) None of our kids complained about them, they were all just thrilled to be able to compete. Our Club sent 7 kids who were thrilled with the experience!
  7. I agree wholeheartedly! I also don't understand why freestyle and greco are treated like "the redheaded stepchildren". My son prefers both to folkstyle.
  8. I second those sentiments coach! It was a great experience, and we'd like to thank YOU for all that you do for our boys. I don't think you realize how much you have touched thier lives and taught them about wrestling and life in general!
  9. I do realize that, and I in no way meant to imply that. I was simply giving his record to show how well he has done for only wrestling a couple of years, that he earned his spot, it wasn't just luck or lack of competition. It was also meant to be a bit "tongue in cheek", we all think our kids are great! But I also felt he was not ready for the level of competition at duals and am curious how we can remedy that and improve Indiana's performance. We always say, anybody can get beat on any given day...The kid who took 2nd at Freestyle went 0-7 at the duals, and I felt horrible for him! Yet a kid who took 4th went 4-2 (different weight classes). The whole point was that I agreed with the previous post and was wondering why they were changing things around. Obviously we are new to USA wrestling as well as the ISWA so I do not have the knowledge that comes with having been around for several years. Just trying to find insights into why they do things the way they do. Several of the response's posted have done just that. I do like the way they pick the Team Indiana wrestlers and I did not know that other states handpick their kids, now I do. I haven't seen the numbers for the total participation in the state finals, nor would I know how to find out what last years were, so I would just have to go by my percetion by simply being in attendance. ( I didn't notice a significant difference, but that was simply based on perception as well as the fact that almost all of our team had several more kids in their brackets than they did the previous year.
  10. Here here! As the mom of one of those greco wrestlers at SB duals I agree wholeheartedly! Now of course I think my son is one heck of a wrestler (5th folkstyle state, 2nd greco state, 3rd freestyle state this year, I don't think that's too bad for his second full season of aau wrestling, not to mention his excellent school record 17-1 and highland hills invitational champ at 125 lb) but let me say that He went into the duals with a total of 5 greco losses including 2 state tournaments and regionals last year, he had only been pinned once (central regional final last year). He got pinned in 4 of 6 matches at duals. It was a great experience for him but he was definately not ready for the competition. We take him to every greco event we possibly can. And now, I don't know if anyone else has noticed the "tentative schedule" for the 2010 state finals but, they are moving the greco state finals to the sunday after freestyle state (freestyle state on sat, greco on sun.)! I sent an email to the ISWA expressing my concern over that possibility and how I feel it would be a disservice to the greco wrestling community. It was our experience that wrestling the day before state was a very bad idea the first year he wrestled greco state he wrestled a local freestyle tournament the day before and he was so tired he slept the entire day only waking up for his matches. I wonder what are others thoughts on this possibility?
  11. Thanks for the info! I'm glad to hear that, I was kinda worried about it. LOL I'm a bit obsessive about taping and photographing not only my son but the other boys on his team! Will definately bring chairs!
  12. Thanks so much for the heads up! We did get a hotel room on 21st st, at the La Quinta. Glad you told us about the food! I will definately share this info with the families who do not visit this site. I've already been stressing what a great accomplishment this is just making the team, with this being their first time. We are very much looking forward to this experience the wrestling as well as the camp, and I am extremely excited to see the tournament. Does anyone know if they publish the results on Track Wrestling? I know our coaches would like to follow our boys' progress throughout the meet. Also was wondering what the opportunities for taping and or photographing your child's matches are from the stands. Thanks again, and congrats to all the wrestlers!
  13. The wrestlers from New Albany Wrestling club are very excited about thier first opportunity to wrestle for Team Indiana. I am proud of them for thier hard work this year, our first year as an official ISWA team and we have 4 boys on the Greco Team. If anyone has any tips, suggestions or words of wisdom I'd love to hear from you!
  14. Does anyone know what time matches are scheduled to start on Sunday?
  15. I'd also like to say thanks to everyone from Franklin for the great tournament! Brandon had a great time, lots of good compition. This was our second time at this tournament and it was even better this year! Definately putting it on the calender for next year! Congrats to all the Iron Men, including my own!
  16. We'll be there! Tell City and Jasper are two of my favorite tournaments! I also have high praise for the Grizzly Iron Man Open held in Franklin. We are really looking forward to it again this year. Even my son tells people how great that tournament was! ;D
  17. Does anyone know if they allow coolers? It is the one thing I haven't seen addressed anywhere! With over 40 kids in my son's weight class he is going to need sustanance and I am not talking hot dogs and nacho's!
  18. It was a really rough day, my SB didn't wrestle his first match until around 1 and that was with 3, yes 3 kids in his weight class! Many of the brackets were mixed up, they orginally had a cadet on the bracket with my son's SB class! I heard several people say the same thing happened to them. I honestly heard nothing but complaints all day. The bleachers were extremely overcrowded as well and they could have alleviated some of that by pulling out the ones on the opposite side which they did not do. To be fair, last years tournament was very well ran so I am not sure what the problem was this year. I hope everyone gives it another chance, and no I am not from Team Jeff. If it happenes again next year we won't even be back and we live 15 minutes away!
