  1. The best thing about that Storley match is after he is pinned there was no fit thrown. He got up waited patiently as the kid acted like he had just won the olympics(or kissed Justin Bieber), shook the guys hand, and then shook the oposing coaches hand. Some kids lose several times a year and still act like babies. This would be great for them to watch.
  2. I hate when I see a wrestler I a rooting for get head locked or thrown to his back to lose, but it isn't luck. Most of the time that is the only way the kid could win. The wrestler with the lead knows the other guy is going to try it. The head lock should never happen when you know its coming. No luck involved in a good head lock...ask Kinser or some other masters of this awesome art.
  3. Smart coach. I wonder about the other situations. I thought someone stated that Snyder was penalized for this. Would the other coaches get penalized...or like I said, would the 112 pounders be the new number 1 and 2 ranked 119 pounders?
  4. There is a thread listing several wrestlers moving down weight classes, but I am not sure people are thinking about the 1.5% per week rule. I am not in agreement of this rule mainly because it isn't policed. In most cases(lighter wrestlers), it is too late to weigh above what you want to wrestle at sectionals. For example, a couple notable 112 pound wrestlers wrestled up at 119 this week in duals. If the kids weighed in above 119.5, they wouldn't be eligible to make 114 for sectionals because they would have to lose more than 1.5% of their weight. Will they be forced to stay at 119? Another example would be a 160 pounder dropping to 145 for sectionals. Unless he weighed in Yesterday at 152, he would have to lose more than 1.5% of his weight to get to 147 for sectionals. Even a 145 pounder would only be able to lose 4.25 pounds these next two weeks. If a 145 pound wrestler weighed in yesterday at 146.5 he is locked in at 145!
  5. Guys, you are so immature. So what teams are in this eating competition?
  6. Oscar, I agree that Perry is designed to be a better dual team than individual tourney team, but they have some studs that will score points in an individual tourney as well. I will say that LN is a very good individual tourney team(they had five champs yesterday), and not a bad dual team at all. They had a close loss to Mishawaka, and a decisive win over Penn earlier this year.
  7. Try triple clicking the link? That got me rolling!
  8. Some of these guys have some serious moves.
  9. I thought Penn was lookin good. Is it Gregory and Wisler?
  10. Dude, this is a PG rated site. If you want that kind of info, you need to go to a different site.
  11. Stop it Y2. I just punched my computer again. Personally, I don't mind a classed individual, but just to get you going again I can argue. Winning state at a small school class is not "equal". For example, Lets say there were 3 classes. Each class had a 100 teams. The average school population for the 3 classes are 400, 800, and 1200. That means there are 40000 kids in the small class, 80000 kids in the med. class, and 120000 kids in the large class. The large class individual has to be better than a lot more kids.
  12. Oscar, During your mingling this first weekend, what was said that makes you not want a team state?
  13. Oscar, Do you honestly believe that a kid won't cut weight to make the varsity squad? Back when you wrestled, the traditional way, did kids not lose weight because they wanted to have a better team? I hear stories about great dual meets with standing room only during your traditional era.
  14. Karl, compare wrestling stats from other states. Basketball is much different than wrestling. Y2 posted that Michigan has had 58 different finalists in the past 15 years. That is 14.5 different finalists in each of the 4 classes. So every year, one of the teams wrestling for the title has been there before. I think a classed team state would level the playing field and give smaller schools a level playing field, but there will still be a lot of regulars at the state tournament...not a bad thing. I hear people say, "the team state is stupid because it only is for about 10-20 teams." Yeah, the best teams. I like a Cindarella Story as much as the next guy, but it is difficult to do in wrestling. Indyt stated that you can teach kids to stay off there back, etc. I have coached and seen a lot of wrestling in my day, and for about 90% of the matches I attend I know who is going to win before it starts. I can't say that in most other sports.
  15. Let me clarify my arguement. I am not saying that the same teams will continue to make it if we class teams state. I am saying that there will be little parity within the classes. The same top 5 teams will make it each year in each class, and you will mix in a few others. I am for a classed team state, but many peoples arguement is that the same teams make it every year so why have it. Wrestling is a sport that rewards the hardest working programs....not saying that others don't work hard. Penn had like 50 or 60 kids wrestling at the ISWA folkstyle state the past couple years. They will be a contender. It is much easier for a football team to get an awesome quarterback or running back to carry a team for a couple seasons. You can't count on a couple studs to win you a dual in wrestling.
  16. Is it safe to say that we can divide 58 by 4 then and get a number for each class. So, in the last 15 years, there has only been 14.5 teams represented in the finals of each class. This is proving my point that there is little parity in the classes. There is still the top teams making it to the finals more often. I bet if you take the top 8 teams there would be even less parity. I would love a class system, but the same teams are going to make it to state.
  17. Y2, You continue to compare other Indiana sports to wrestling. That is comparing apples to oranges. Wrestling is much different than football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, etc. It is much harder for wrestling teams to pull an upset. In b-ball one guy can get hot and the other team goes cold...Pike lost to Perry in basketball last year in the sectional after losing by 25 earlier in the year. Brebuf doesn't win the Volleyball title after being ranked like 4th in the country...beating dozens of 5A schools. Many of the top 5a football teams lost in the first two rounds of sectionals this year. In wrestling if you lose to a team 9 matches to 5...it is much harder to make that up. Before you get on and give me several examples, please tell me you agree that it is much harder to pull the upset over favored teams. Karl, you can answer this too. I don't know this answer, but does the Ohio, Illinois, or Michigan classed state tourney have much parity?
  18. Statistics are crazy. How many different teams have gotten to the regional or semi-state finals? This would include the top 16 teams like our individual state. How does one kid qualifying for state envolve an entire team? Sure, a percentage of the team will go watch their teammate, but many won't even do that. Any coach that wants to get rid of team state should be ashamed. We have to keep team state to get it classed, and if they class the team they will class the individual like every other state. Then we could all win. The fans that want to get rid of team state and keep individual state one class are selfish.
  19. Y2, Sometimes I want to punch my computer when I read your posts, but I get your sarcasm... I see your point. When you argue for class wrestling I yawn because it doesn't affect most Indianapolis area schools where I reside...they would all be big class. Now that team state is threatened I get mad when people don't care because it doesn't affect them(some schools don't feel they stand a chance). I think everyone agrees that team state should stay?
  20. The comment that "team state is only for the top 16-20 teams" is ludicrous. In that case, lets get rid of the individual tournament because it is only for the top 20 to 25 kids. Why is it an accomplishment for a kid to be considered a "semi-state qualifier," but one coach said wrestling in the team regional would be a waste of time not an accomplishment. Wrestling in the team regional should be an accomplishment and a goal for most teams. Not many football coaches say they would rather do away with the state tournament just because Warren Central, Carmel, or Ben Davis is in their sectional. They just want to win the next game so, hopefully, they can get a chance to play Warren, etc. The IHSAA is not going to take team state and give us anything. We need to cntinue to push for a classes team state. Unfortunately, I don't see a very good way of doing a classed team without classed individual. I don't believe any states do have one classed and not the other.
