  1. Thanks Fleener's! We have enjoyed the battles with Tyler over the years. Tyler, Tommy Cash, and Stevan Micic have been throwing tough matches at Kayla for years and years. Thank you for always wrestling her and treating her like a regular opponent. You guys are a big part of her development.
  2. You are absolutely correct.....she could do the trials if she was 16 with a Dr's physical and approval but, unfortunately she does not turn 16 until a week or so after the last trials qualifier. We have looked at this very closely wanting to at least get the exposure this cycle but, it just won't happen. Her World Team coaches and Terry Steiner (Woman's Olympic Head Coach) all feel it is best to let Kayla mature and excel nationally and internationally at her age group (Cadet). I agree with them. she really wants that World Title this year......she was not happy with 8th last year. It is driving her right now. I hope Sarah kicks butt this year! Kayla and Sarah are good friends and being together in Rio would be incredible.
  3. She did get a great draw. We prayed about it and it happened....enough said. Lets not forget last years absolutely horrible draw into Micic (by the way I just love that kid). Last year she would have qualified for state out of any other Semi-state......she drops a heartbreaker in Regional finals 1-0 for her first loss of season, gets a terrible draw losses to Micic, deals with it, and presses on. Goes on to have a great summer of wrestling. Someday the behind the scenes story of Kayla Miracle will be known and most of you will be amazed at how hard she has worked her whole life and the adversity she has been through......especially this year. Her draw as a close friend of mine says......."It's providence". By the way....someone asked if Kayla will be at 106 next year.......not a chance! She is putting on more and more muscle and the weight is already becoming an issue. I do a thorough analytical look at my own kids weight classes each year around Sectionals time. It is basically a report looking at a specific weight class and a specific wrestlers chances of getting to state. I also break down and rank the Semi-states based on current rankings. It is kind of geeky but, if you love wrestling you would understand. It takes me about 4 hours to write it but in the end it's comprehensive. Someone smarter could do it faster....as another friend of mine says "We are a little slower down south" I share it with my friends that love wrestling. If anyone is interested in it so they can break it down for their own kids I will provide as a template. In the end though we can plan all we want but, our plan really doesn't matter....God's got it covered.
  4. Every decision in wrestling should start with two questions. 1) Is this in the best interest of the kids? 2) Will this promote or hurt the sport of wrestling? obviously wrestle backs are in the best interest of the kid. I also believe that wrestle backs promote fairness and equality across the board. There are three main variables that come into play for a kid on the way to state 1) performance 2) geographical location 3) The draw. Let's take a look at these and see how wrestle backs could help. 1) Performance: Obviously this should be the biggest variable of all but, sometimes it isn't. Here's an example....let's say a kid gets caught....legitimately caught....we have seen this from our top wrestlers in the country/world, our college stars to our Olympians, so I don't buy the comment "Don't get caught" if you've never been caught then you didn't wrestle many matches. In this instance doesn't wrestle backs seem to be the answer? 2) Geographical location: Huge impact on the road to state for any wrestler! You can have multiple ranked kids in Sectionals that feed into a Regional which gives that Regional a plethora of ranked kids and in fact causing wrestlers who deserve to go to Semi-state not to go. This obviously happens even more at the Semi-state level with loaded Regional feeders overloading a Semi-state. This is an unfortunate situation but, wouldn't it make it fairer to the wrestlers to make sure we send the very best top four by using wrestle backs? 3) Draw: We all know that performance should be the major factor but, unfortunately it is usually not. Most of the time it comes down to luck of the draw. I have seen it work both ways and have had kids get good and bad draws. Do we really want all of a kids work and sacrifice to come down to luck? Is that good for the kids? A Regional champion can draw a tougher ticket round match than someone who places third or fourth. Would wrestle backs help alleviate some of this? We crown one state champion. We send 16 kids per weight to state. Shouldn't we as the adults be fighting to make sure we are giving our wrestlers the very best chance based on ability? Shouldn't performance be the largest factor on the road to state and not where you live or luck of the draw?
  5. Thank you for appreciating all the hard work that she has put in, we also appreciate and respect your opinion. Kayla's goal is to someday win a gold medal for the U.S. in the Olympics. She will do that in freestyle wrestling. She will also wrestle freestyle in college. Currently there are no options for Kayla to train and compete in freestyle except during our states freestyle season. After that she wrestles the rest of the summer on the Cadet World Team. Kayla goes harder for longer (11 months a year) than anyone I know. She takes a month off of wrestling to run cross country for Culver. Most wrestlers believe "Summertime wrestling makes winter champions" for Kayla it's the opposite.... Winter wrestling makes summertime champions. Kayla really wants to win Cadet Worlds this year after a disappointing 8th last year. This is the only training she has right now. Trust me...she would rather be wrestling freestyle against females than dealing with everything that she has had to deal with in a male dominant sport. She doesn't ask for special treatment. She does not want anything but, to be treated like a wrestler....with respect. If she qualifies for state or not......hopefully everything that she has learned through that improbable quest enables her to win that Olympic gold that she dreams of....and makes us all that have had a hand in supporting her, even the male wrestlers who have faced her along the way, proud as can be.
  6. Kayla Miracle wins Plymouth Sectional with an 8-1 score in the 106 finals. She is currently 39-1 with 24 pins on the season.
  7. Hoosier Elite results: Cael Miracle placed 3rd: Cael lost to #2 ranked kid in country in Semis, then beat #3 ranked kid 5-0. In the finals he beat a stud who beat #4 ranked kid....Cael won 5-0 in that match as well. Alex Mosconi placed 6th: Alex lost in Semis. Then he lost in wrestle backs. Then he lost in his match for 5th.
  8. Just started 2nd day at Tulsa. We have Cael in semi's and Alex in quarters. Both wrestling monsters!
  9. Hoosier Elite 15&U finished wrestling late last night. Elijah Dunn leads that group by going undefeated. Lukasz Walendzak and Derek Blubaugh remain alive in the consolation brackets.
  10. Hoosier Elite finishes first half of first day at Tulsa Nationals. Cael Miracle and Alex Mosconi lead the 10&U kids both going undefeated today.
  11. Tulsa Nationals streaming live on vypeok.com I am updating on my Facebook and via Twitter @hoosierelite Hoosier Elite opens up with a 9-0 win by Alex Mosconi and a 4-1 win by Cael Miracle
  12. I had an opportunity to work with a girl from Alaska at the USOEC (United States Olympic Education Center) named Melissa Apodaca. She was a very physical wrestler who trained hard and was really focused.....on and off the mat. Must be something in the water in the Pacific Northwest
  13. It's funny you bring up the Yeik's.....we moved here from Washington and we are close family friends with them. Our kids grew up together. We trained and traveled together staying at each others houses depending on here we were wrestling. I have coached many practices in the "log cabin".....(the wrestling room behind their house). Great people!
  14. I totally agree......The Indiana wrestling family and ISWA has been really supportive of Kayla and the Miracle family in general. We were very blessed to be stationed in such a supportive state with a great attitude toward female wrestling.
  15. Kayla and Shawn Miracle - Kayla currently has 63 high school wins in her sophomore season and Shawn had around 120 wins for a bro sis combo of 173 and counting. He currently wrestles 157lbs at West Point. They have younger bro and sis coming up.
  16. Kayla is training very hard and getting used to the 106 weight class. She knows exactly what she needs to do to reach her goal of placing at State this year. Kayla is very mature and focused for her age. She knows that high school folkstyle wrestling is just a training platform for her larger year end goal of winning a Cadet World title and her long term goal of winning multiple Olympic gold medals. The support and prayers from everyone are very much appreciated.
  17. January 8, 2012 ? Hoosier Elite Dominates the Artesian Classic for the third year in a row! The Academy had 6 champions, 2 runner-ups, 4 thirds, 2 fourths, and 1 fifth place finisher. Leading the Academy were Champions Cael Miracle, Lukasz Walendzak, Alex Mosconi, Anthony Mosconi, Bryce Carson, and Elijah Dunn. Great job guys! Geno Mosconi, and Keaton Deckard were runner ups. Jake Ruhberg, Owen Sego, Tucker Kirkoff, and Derek Blubaugh finished third. Rounding out the team were Hope Miracle, and Tucker Kirkoff in fourth and Ethan Sego in fifth. All fifteen Hoosier Elite wrestlers placed!
  18. Thanks again brent.....I am having a good time down here but, it is a very challenging assignment. I am running two and three practices a day and the sessions are two to three hours in duration each. We are training extremely hard. I will be back at Hoosier Elite after the first week of November and the Armed Forces Championship. I will be back for a couple of weeks before we go into our next training cycle for Nationals in Cleveland, OH. It is a great learning experience and I am blessed to have the opportunity. Reece Freeman is doing a great job with the Hoosier Elite wrestlers while I am absent. Thanks for all that you guys do to pick up my slack when I am gone. See you guys soon!
  19. Thanks Brent! I hope all is going well back in Bloomington. It feels weird not to be there as the Academy kicks off the 2011/12 season. I here that Reece Freeman is doing a fantastic job of getting everyone in shape and knocking the dust off of the fundamentals. We are running two and three a days down here in Virginia Beach. I will come home prior to Armed Forces Championships the first week of November. The training schedule for November & December before Nationals is being hashed out now. We may be at the Olympic Education Center in Marquette, MI for some of that. See you soon bud. Tell the kids I miss them and I have learned a bunch of new tricks that I can't wait to teach them.
