  1. I am for anything that will provide more action. I hate watching wrestling where you know the wrestler will not attempt an offensive move. They wait until overtime and see who can hold who down.
  2. We have an ISHAA Commissioner who openly advocates getting rid of Team State. I think if the product is better, you would have more people in the stands. Higher attendance means it is tougher to do away with Team State. I saw outstanding wrestling and wrestlers at Conseco. I also saw wrestlers win and advance without performing an offensive move. This type of wrestling is boring and people do not want to watch it. People want to see action.
  3. This sport is called wrestling, not running! I saw alot of wrestlers advance because they simply ran to the ring and never made an offensive move. If wrestlers were penalized for going outside of the ring, we would see much better matches. I saw great matches with alot of action, I also saw alot of matches that bored me to death!
  4. The first family of Pendleton Wrestling has sent 3 to the State Finals in the last 10 years...Mitch, Matt and Mason.
  5. I have had a heavy heart since hearing the news of Zach's passing. Zach was such a wonderful person. I can't remember ever seeing him without a smile. My prayers go out to his family.
  6. Throughout the tournament and regular season I saw several wrestlers stalling their way to victory in one match, then wrestle the same way with another official and lose for stalling. I lost count of the number of times coaches influenced the official to get the call.
  7. Sorry didnt see Simon beat me to it

  10. Rankings guy did an awesome job this year with the information he received. Looking over the sectional brackets, I see some wrestlers ranked with 10 losses. (I would never name the kids) Surely there are better wrestlers and more deserving to be ranked. Unfortunately if records are not sent in, these rankings are a best effort. I understand why coaches would not send in information. The most important and accurate rankings start tomorrow.
  11. I agree with Oscar. One minute a kid is ranked in the top 10 and one loss has him unrated. I don't understand the logic but do understand Rankings Guy does the best he can and I appreciate his work. to critique your unfounded argument about one "fluke" loss dropping a kid completely out of the rankings i point to a few examples... #5 at 103 and 2x SQ dylan hall was pinned with a lead early in the season by an unranked wrestler from evansville north, #5 at 112 and last year's state runner up at 103 dusty kief has a loss to a freshman from evansville memorial on a big 5 point move late in the match and he remains ranked high, at 119 layten binion of mishawaka remained ahead of tyler chapple of penn despite being pinned by him in the dual meet because at the time of the fall binion had a double digit lead, also at 119 former medalist steven ross of concord remains ranked despite a loss by fall to slough of jimtown due to his nice wins over bradley of muncie south and chapple of penn, at 125 former state champion ethan raley was absolutely wrecked by justin kieffer of roncalli and remains ranked in the top 5, at 130 #6 mike clark of calumet had an early season loss to aaron witt of floyd central and has since turned his wrestling up to a new level, completely outwrestling nick schrader from mishawaka at the al smith in an 8-7 loss and clark is ranked ahead of witt despite that loss, at 135 cody zink of woodlan has a questionable loss to fiechter of southern wells who bumped up from 130 and beat him, yet zink remains ranked b/c of his big win over weinzapfel and his respectable loss to brock norton of carroll, at 140 former state placer and 3rd ranked matt milton has an early season loss to scurria of carmel yet remains ranked ahead of him because of his win over manbu of warsaw and his major decision over bowman of franklin.... do i need to continue? i could point to examples at every weight class I never used the word "fluke". I used Buchanan as my example. Jake was rated in the top 10. Jake lost to a good wrestler and fell out of the rankings. If Notre Dame is ranked in the top 10 and loses to a good USC team, typically they won't disappear from the rankings. Obviously you know more than me since Jake lost again this weekend and might not deserve to be ranked. Like I said, I may not understand the reasonings for your decisons, but I understand you do the best you can with the information you receive. You have done a great job this season.
  12. Who beat Buchanan 8-2? I only use him as an example. I saw Jake wrestle as HWT and he looked strong. I wonder if dropping to 215 is too much for him.
  13. I agree with Oscar. One minute a kid is ranked in the top 10 and one loss has him unrated. I don't understand the logic but do understand Rankings Guy does the best he can and I appreciate his work.
  14. I don't understand how you drop someone from top 10 to totally out of rankings because of one loss. (example: Jake Buchanan) You have some ranked with no noteable wins and losses against ranked wrestlers.
  15. I dont know how you call Cooper a sleeper. I don't think any State Ranked Wrestler is a sleeper. I noticed Cooper is ranked #15. Cooper will have his hands full to get to State. Below are some expected wrestlers going to New Castle Semi State at 215... Buchanan (Cathedral) #5 ranked Smitherman (Pendleton Heights) #6 ranked Jacquest (Clinton Central) #13 ranked Wright (Tech) #16 ranked Forman (South Dearborn) was ranked for most of the year. Balbach (Mt Vernon) was ranked previously Looks like to me there will be a few very good wrestlers who won't make it to the Finals. I think Cooper has as good a chance as anyone mentioned here to get to the finals. Great thing about wrestling is you have to bring it each time you step on the mat. Anyone of these 7 wrestlers could be at the finals.
