It's only Tuesday and I wish I was at tournament calling a fall so I can get into the hospitality room only to taste what these ladies have cooked up. I would nominate Plymouth as one of the good ones, along with Lake County like was posted earlier, and years ago I worked the Twin Lakes Invite right before Christmas, and that was really a good one. Coach Wilk and I just got back from Valpo tonight to read this and I have tears in my eyes as I read this, and I dont' know if Coach Wilk even knows this, so all I can say is I have had this young man on the mat from the time he was in junior high school, and it is what is great about the sport of wrestling. In no other sport can you find people no matter what they're size having a spot in the line up where no one can say sorry your to small, or we don't have a spot for you young man. Mikey your in the wrestling family and only a wreslter can understand what that means, we are a strange fraternity, it was an honor being on the same mat with you, and raising you hand in victory, and even the way you handled yourself in defeat which I might say wasn't very often. So the next time we are having a bad day get up off your butt and remember this, and get out there and do something about it. I am a better person because of young men like you, Mikey thanks for letting me share the mat with you. Enough said

And the beach got so filled up with spectators that when we finally picked a winner, after she gave it back to me I couldn't get nipple dents out so I donated it to charity. D2d after the match did you go over and talk to the officials? We would love to educate or discuss in a cival manner with fans that are orderly as to what went on. Or did you just set up in the stands and yell? ;D A stalemate is the wrestlers best freind, and should be called more, as an official gets more experience, but when we call it sometimes right as it is called one of the wrestlers will try to run something and from the stands you people will react because of what happens in the seconds or less as we recognize the stalemate. :-* The official does not have a crystal ball to know after waiting for something to happen he finally calls a stalemate. I have seen some that should have been really great matches end up being a 2-1 nose picker because a stalemate wasn't called the whole match. :'( It comes with experience but we tell our younger officials to take a mental picture of what just happened go back through the thought process and what would you have done differently? ;D The only thing is they didn't call any stalemates, but that will come with expereince and even then when we do call one on occasion the wrestlers will finally try to hit something or switch off to another move but we have already called the stalemate, it happnes and we move on. 8) I wasn't there at North Newton but maybe that is what you saw and didn't understand it, but if you would approatch the official after the match and introduce yourself and ask. You might be better for it, as well as look at things in another lite. As far as first year officials working varsity matches in a perfect world we would like for them not to do varsity matches but we are in a position where when sectionals come around these guys are getting sent to officiate a sectional, and the question I have for you is would you rather have these new guys just jump into the sectional with no varsity experience? Or would you rather they get a few varsity matches under they're belt and learn a few things good bad or in different? I think we both know the answer to that one, but like the ELDER said go to a practice and if nothing else officiate a challenge match or work a open tournament on a Sunday and see how easy it is, and you never know you might just get the bug orfind out wow this isn't as easy as it looks from the stands. :-* :-[
