Consolidation has been discussed in our county (Posey). There are currently 3 different school corporations in our county: Mt. Vernon, North Posey, and New Harmony. The following problems have arisen: 1. Whose pay scale do you use? 2. Do you build a new high school closer to the center of the county or do you pay to bus students quite a few miles from two corporations to a current building? 3. To handle the influx of new students to a current building there would probably need to be renovations in whatever building was chosen. 4. When asked their opinion on consolidation, many people have said it's a good idea. However, when you tell them that their school would be closed, the outcry was loud. They DID NOT want their alma mater closed down; they wanted the rest of the county bussed to "their" school. Small town pride gets in the way.

Don't know if that one is true, but I know it's been mentioned in our corporation (Mt. Vernon-Posey Co.).

Mater Dei's gym when they're wrestling someone really good. Several years ago when Ev. Cental had a couple of good teams in a row, it was amazing to see the no. of people there......not an open seat in the place and many people standing. I think they probably had the fire marshal "detained" for a couple of hours that night.....;-)

According to Echoes of the Elder, there is only one person who qualified 4 times but never placed. That person is Craig Alstott, Floyd Central, 83-86. The elder's book only goes up through 2002, though. I remember Miller, too.

I've never been to North Manchester but I have been to Iowa City. If I had to choose between the two to live in, I'll go with Iowa City. Does it cost the same to go to both? I don't know. I thought Manchester was a D3 school and therefore didn't offer athletic scholarships. Could be I'm wrong. I'm sure Manchester has a very fine tradition. But I get to choose to get a degree from Manchester or from Michigan, I'll go with Michigan.

Get used to it.....the next 50+ will seem to disappear in a heartbeat. Especially when you have children and they are growing up. Unbelievable.
