  1. I got two words for you: Andy Schneider Great strength, very good speed, tremendous balance, technique of middle weight. Wrestled like a middle weight.
  2. What are the actual dates of the tournament? Coach Schaffer told me it was the Tuesday and Wed. after Christmas but someone else said the school's schedules say Wed. and Thurs. Can someone help me out here?
  3. Not sure.....maybe I'll show up Friday night and see......what time is wrestling usually over on Friday?
  4. First one to call an overtime match.....you know, Chuck, the usual southern Indiana ref's wager.
  5. First one to have an overtime has to pick up the bar tab that night and goes broke.
  6. Is Reitz in it this year? I thought they were at Connersville.
  7. The old Bulgarian pretzel hold.......I remember that joke......won't say from when, though..... ;D
  8. lol.....by the way, Coach Patton was Delta's coach in the 80's and Coach Goebel was MD's coach in the 80's, 90's, and 00's....if you're going to attempt to insult people, you could at least get the decades right.
  9. I'm sure, rankingsguy, it's because some of the head coaches didn't wrestle in college. They should therefore bow to your all-knowing, all-seeing wisdom when it comes to straightening them out. *For those who can't tell or didn't read another thread, this post is dripping with sarcasm*
  10. Since all the teams are in the Big 8, many of the matches will be for conference seeds.
  11. Too many matches in one day if Jasper were there. Can't have any more than 5 in a day. The seeding for the Big 8 is normally fairly easy anyway (thanks to the coaches) but it seems like we always have a couple of those A beat B, B beat C, C beat A situations that make your head spin.
  12. I can honestly answer that with a resounding NO!!!!
  13. Nope, not stuck in the 70's.....just stating a fact. You CAN have success in wrestling without being a college wrestler. Your blanket statement covered all eras, so did my comment. Former collegiate wrestlers definitely have an edge in the technique dept. And if you'd have qualified your statement to cover current times, it might have some credence, but not the way you made it. Not every college wrestler makes a good coach, and not every good coach was a college wrestler. Don't try to backtrack and qualify your statement now. Your post manages to name 10 very good programs that are coached by former collegiate wrestlers. That's not a very high percentage. There are plenty of good programs that don't have former collegiate wrestlers as coaches. And I stick by your comment about Coach Stevens being out of line.
  14. "This is why I am a firm believer that high school coaches need to be former college wrestlers who know what it takes to have success at the high school level and to promote the sport. This was why I noted the correlation between a regional qualifier high school coach and a very poor mindset when it comes to promoting wrestling." So unless you were a college wrestler, you can't have success as a coach or know how to promote a sport, huh? Wonder how Don Patton, who never even wrestled in high school, or Mike Goebel feel about that? How many high school coaches in our state were college wrestlers? I never was but still feel like I did ok with our teams. I'm willing to bet more weren't than were. Your comment about Coach Stevens was personal, pointed, and totally unnecessary. I lost a lot of respect for you when you made that comment. Whether you agree with his point of view or not, that comment was out of line. That is a very elitist, arrogant, and absurd statement. I never made it out a sectional back in '74 but love the sport and promote it. You'll never get me to agree with you on either of those points. Ah, and the cool points keep on declining. Darn the bad luck......LOL
  15. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with posting lineups. However, I think it ought to be a coach's perogative to decide that, not someone elses.

  17. Ah, and now start the personal attacks. Now I've got my head in the sand. Like Mark Twain said, "There are three types of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." I never said wrestling's rate of retaining competitors was good. But unless you know what reasons are for not sticking with something, just numbers can be made to fit most any theory you want. Post what you want. Once again, I don't care.
  18. Still my opinion that it's your opinion and I'm sticking to it. Harp on it as much as you want. I don't care.
  19. The first part of your post here is a fact. The rest is, once again, your OPINION. And, also once again, you're welcome to it.
  20. I believe you're spouting your opinion. That's MY opinion.
  21. Pretty sure doesn't make it a sure thing. And the rest of what nickster said makes sense to me.
  22. Your opinion and you're welcome to it.
  23. Like Coach Stevens said, they won't meet until the conference tournament. Hoehn pinned a Jasper wrestler in the ticket round of the semi-state last year at 125 but I don't know if it was Chambers or not.
