  1. Thank you all that gave an answer and I want you to know besides Pistol Pete your answers were lame. They were just a bunch of “well it depends”. I had higher expectations of this group.
  2. Agreed. Be on varsity was equal to just being on the team. Meaning the minimum to even think about being a part of the sport. Understanding different schools will definitely be tougher to get in the line up.
  3. First of all I agree. I should have rephrased it to "average" athlete that wants to achieve one of the goals above. Just meaning they aren't some phenom that breaks the normal rules.
  4. What is everyone's opinion on how much off season it takes to compete in wrestling anymore at the High School level? My belief is that it has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. Different levels: Be on the team/Be Varsity - (How many hours a week in the off season, how much time off, any off season competition) Semi-State Wrestler - (How many hours a week in the off season, how much time off, any off season competition) State Placer - (How many hours a week in the off season, how much time off, any off season competition) For arguments sake lets say they do one week long camp in the summer. We are talking the average wrestler in a program that at least has some wrestlers in his room that can help push them.
  5. Friday night at around 7 pm Kenny Monday will be on Zoom on the big screen and talk to anyone that is there. This man was my absolute hero when I was growing up and he still a great coach and ambassador for the sport. We will have a certified scales to check your weight, wrestling on the TVs, and jams playing. It will also be an open house so feel free to stop by and check it out and hang out with like minded individuals. Saturday from 8 am - 12 pm it will also be open for wrestlers to come in and use the room and check their weight. If you are going to use the mats and gear there is a $10 drop fee and digital waivers to be signed unless you are member of The Fort. If you are in town for the weekend and want to run the trails with some old people feel to stop by at 7am and we usually run for about 45 minutes or so.
  6. @ The Fort Wrestling Facility Friday September 10th from 6:00 - 9:00pm you can come get a quick roll in, cut some weight, check your weight on a certified scale, listen to jams, and hang out and watch wrestling on the TVs. Come check out what everyone is talking about. If you are member of The Fort it is included. If you are not you can pay a $10 drop in and sign the waivers. You can sign up here: https://thefortwrestling.com/sign-up/join-the-fort/ Hope to see you there!
  7. It was a good meeting with some great dialogue. The bottom line is we aren't going to get better by just having couple teams improve and we aren't going anywhere anytime soon unless we work together. Yesterday was another step towards that.
  8. The Fort Hammers starts tonight August 16th and is for experienced K through 8th. Practices will be every Monday and Thursday 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The wrestlers need to know this isn't a games practice. We will be getting after it in a more intense and positive way. The Hammers will be coached by multiple High School coaches and Fort Wayne's own Anton Talamantes of Ohio State and Josh Buuck of IU. We are super excited about this. This month will be free and starting next month it will be $75 and it will also include The Fort membership which gets you Live Wrestling Night, Meet the Coach, Open Facility, and camps/clinics discounts. 12. The Fort Wrestling Facility in Fort Wayne Indiana is offering girl wrestling sessions every Tuesday at 5:30 to 6:45PM. Blane Culp of Columbia City will be hosting this practice. We would really like this to work so if you can spread the word it would be much appreciated. Thank you and let me know if you have any questions.
  13. As you may already know I am opening a wrestling facility in Fort Wayne. On Sunday's I want to do a Meet the Coach, where coaches come and run a youth session and middle/high school session and tell their story,if they want, and what wrestling means to them. Then run them through some of you favorite stuff. The goal is for the wrestlers to get to know you and your experience with wrestling. Here is my story and I doubt it is unique, but it is mine. https://thefortwrestling.com/about/meet-coach-andy-oberlin/ Message me if you are interested in being a part of it. If you love wrestling we will get along. I actually like Caprino. So you do the math.

  15. I can see that and we would love to have him. His dad is a super good dude. Hopefully he can be a spark for sure.

  19. Big props. My favorite to watch by far.
  20. Thinking about just deleting this post. But the forum has been pretty boring lately.
  21. The inside will all be new, including the mats. The outside will not be.
  22. Me drawing Tim Myers 2 years in a row and my only other losses were in Regional finals. Just saying.
  23. Going way back. Mike Ester Vs. Aaron Wilson. Or at least that was my most memorable.
  24. Unfortunately, we will not be able to see a Mills vs Lepper match up. CoVid took out 6 of our 10 qualifiers and 2 more before sectionals. It has been an interesting year. Everyone be grateful for the opportunity to compete. Personally I know Mills never stopped from last year when a shoulder injury knocked him out from competing at semi-state. He is a Junior and hopefully we get a clean run next year.
