Well Coach, I tried to get as much information as I could about the wrestlers that Steve, Nestor, and Chris would wrestle. Many of the coaches I talked to had not seen these kids wrestle, or they were unwilling to "rat" out competitors from their own conference or area. But, I guess i just didn't try hard enough. I couldn't agree more. I have two young kids and it gets harder and harder to be away from home . You would really have to have an understanding wife to keep coaching year in and year out for free. I really think some people have a hard time understanding that.

MattM hit the nail on the head. Those are going to be the big changes in the coming years for the majority of schools. However, smaller schools in rural areas might cut some programs. I know of the article from the Indystar that was mentioned in an earlier post. The article spoke of a movement to have all volunteer coaches. I really don't see that a realistic. No one would be a head coach at the varsity level for free. Well, i guess some would, but the turn over would be tremendous. I realize that none of us coaches do this for the money, and some would say coaches should do it for the "real love of the game". However, as some one on the gridiron stated, we have real mortages and real bills to pay. Just my opinions

it is a point system. you get 2 pts for a NLC win in the weight class you are entering, and 1 pt for a win in another weight. The higher the pts, the higher the seed.

What do you thnk of girls wrestling?

How about when a female wrestler is simply out matched in her weight class? I know of a girl that is coming out for a team and she is going to wrestle 189. The coach is scared to death that this girl will get seriously injured in the practice room. This girl is not in any kind of shape, and has zero athletic ability. She is going to wrestle boys that are some of the best and strongest athletes in the school. Legally the coach has to let the lady wrestle, but how does he approach this situation? The coach shouldn't have to change up the practice to accommodate one wrestler that is truly out of her league. -
