  1. Chad Welch lost on a questionable call. He shook hands and walked off the mat like a gentleman. That is why he will have an excellant chance to win state next year. I am sure he will not make excuses and he will work harder and not leave it up to a 50/50 call. Both Welch brothers have improved over the years and always been respectful of coaches, opponents, officials, etc.
  2. Johnson-Jones was strong, quick, in shape, and very technically sound. The most underated wrestler I have witnessed at state. i apologize to my buddy for telling him that his run was over against Atwood. This guy is the whole package.
  3. I guess to get my final say in. MD is a class program that should lose with class as they won with class. Go back to last year or this year when Castle lost to MD and see if there were any negative comments. When you get beat you don't blame it on the guys on the rail like last year, you don't start talking about a rumor of spitting, and you don't blame 6 losses in a row on 6 different refs that did not call stalling. How can you keep wanting a stalling call to bail you out of six losses. There have been 6 refs in a row not give you the call. In wrestling you have to earn your points. The great thing about wrestling, is there are no excuses. Of all programs to use these smear tactics and diversions, MD would have been the last to tarnish this sport where you step up and admit you lost. No talking about fans to change the subject from wrestling, no acting like you are injured to gain an advantage, and no blaming officials. I am sure you two are about the only one's from MD that use these tactics. Too many great past champions to have this run deep. Please stay positive, you will be back on top soon. Very talented and young team at MD. Just show respect for when you lose and you will get respect when you win. Old coach once said: Excuses are for losers
  4. How good has this junior been since finishing 5th at 135 last year as a sophomore? Wrestled for team Indiana in PA. Undefeated on the season. Has beat John Sims MD that is ranked 26 nationaly 4 times in a row this season. Has not allowed Sims who finished 6th as a freshman and 4th as a soph to score a point in three of those matches.
  5. I hope you could not find anyone to take your money when you bet on Quincy to beat Welch.
  6. #2 Doug Welch 145 I added him, assuming that he has beat him at some time at home or in practice.
  7. Chad Welch Junior number two ranked 152. How good has he been since State last year when he lost with some broken bones in his hand: Undefeated this year- Beat Tonte #3 19-10 Team State 2009 Sims #3 145 3-0 Stahl #4 4-3 Ritchie #6 9-5 Lynde #7 4-2 Team State 2009 Parrish #10 Pin Wathan #11 16-0 Juliano #12 17-3 Marshal #15 Tech Fall

  12. Caleb Schmitt match was awesome for me as well. Watched it from their family's suite. He had a great career, but tough luck in the tournament every year. Two older brothers that wrestled were in there and to see the family get to experience this was unbelievable. We met the Zimmer family afterward and they were great people. I remember that he beat a sophomore Sandefur earlier in the day and said that he would win a state championship. Caleb had never placed at State and won the championship.
  13. Freshman wrestler quote when I was in school. He had looked at the brackets and come back and asked me "What school does bye wrestle for"

  15. Went back and found this quote from last year. Not sure if it is accurate. At Evansville, there were 8 number ones that went down including an alternate at 171 who beat a number one. Interesting facts to have the first year having four from the regional.
  16. How many 4 seeds made it to state last year in the first year? How many were state placers?
  17. Sponge Bob Square Pants go back and read the part about predictions only. I will ban you from my site like Y2 does.
  18. Since we have been discussing officiating. This had nothing to do with the outcome of the match, but is it possible for a kid to get hurt with 30 seconds or less everytime they are losing? Should they get injury time out? Should the coach not step in and make the wrestler keep wrestling? I posted on the officiating site and they said the answer was that they did not have control over injury timeouts, but if the coach would step in where this was a constant problem to make sure that a wrestler was not creating an unfair advantage by being winded and catching a breather. Does anyone know of a coach that has called out their own wrestler to insure fairness for their opponent? I have witnessed it four times now with one wrestler. Re: Out of shape wrestler acting hurt to get breath? ? Reply #1 on: January 24, 2010, 10:55:18 AM ? Quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer from officials last time this happened when I questioned it on that page: That would be filed under coaching ethics. A ref must grant injury time to a wrestler if he asks for it.
  19. Not sure if you were the official or not. People around me were arguing about whether you were the official. Do not know if it was a bad call or not. Watching the match, it looked like an obvious escape and there were some coaches questioning the call. I was curious if it was a rule I did not understand or the official did not see the escape. Maybe he never got his head all the way out? Both wrestlers were on their feet and Mann thought he had the escape and was not trying to seperate. He looked stunned to not get the escape and so did the coaches and fans. I was wanting clarification on why everyone was surprised. The match would have been tied and could have went either way.
  20. Back to the wrestling action. Can someone tell me why the Mann kid from Castle did not get the escape point in OT when both wrestlers were in the up position? This happened in the quarter finals. Is there a rule that I missed? Did the referee miss the call? Was Goebel really the referee of this match? Anyone that heard an explanation and could help clear up the confusion of everyone in my section watching would be appreciated.
  21. This thread is for wrestling predictions only. No discussions on weather problems or scales. Give your predictions on each weight class now that the brackets are out.
  22. Jon, I wish I would not have drove to Indy and supported the mighty panther football team this year. Why do you guys hate on us cake eaters when we pull for the panthers after you whip up on us? German chocalate last night for desert.
  23. Thanks for taking the glasses off Jon H. I think you missed 135 though.
