  1. The moment I read this I thought of the state finals. Watch how many times you see this next weekend. I can picture myself greeting old friends that I only see once a year at Conseco. This is classic, BlackshirtD!
  2. You didn't mention that a 'bad tournament or dual' in many cases meant we won as a team, but didn't perform to HIS standard. My favorite Jarmon story was after the Wheaton tourney, his alma mater. He was upset that we took third to a Div. 1 & a Div. 2 school, so he pulled into a truck stop at around 11:30 in Chicago to 'feed' us dinner. He yelled into the van cb, "You each have 10 dollars and ten minutes before these vans leave!" The short order cook in that place was running wild! Many of us piled in that van as the wheels began to roll with raw or frozen meet with a side of twizzlers and gum! He meant what he said everytime.
  3. This is my personal favorite... As the refs leave the hospitality room after lunch a coach blocks the hall with his arms out. As the group of officials stops to hear what caused the concerned look on his face the coach begins to speak. "Which one of you lost your cell phone," he says with the same concerned look as before. The officials look at each other and suddenly they have the same confused look on their faces. One speaks for the whole group, "None of us lost a phone! Why?" Coach replies, as he turns the phone over so everyone can see, "It has to belong to one of you ding-dongs. It says right here 10 missed calls!" :-* I have to add that this is a true story. One ref actually spouted a comeback as the coach walked past, "Just think coach, it's only noon..."
  4. Coach: "Can I get penalized for what I am thinking?" Ref: "No, I have never heard of anything like that. Why?" Coach: "Cause I think you suck!" Coach: "How do you spell your name anyway?" Ref: "r-e-f" Coach: "Just like you call a match, with no 'i's'!" :-[
  5. If you search Mikey Witous on the WNDU website you should find a couple more stories about him. 3 local stations give a lot of attention to wrestling in our area.
  6. angelo.dicarlo@wndu.com My favorite quote, "not a boy and girl -- just two wrestlers."
  7. Wouldn't you agree though, that we should all be past this 'novelty' phase. Sara, and many others, have proven that girls can wrestle. When will we finally get past gender as start seeing everyone as a wrestler. Wrestling gets in your blood and changes you. It has obviously in Sara's. She shares our passion for this lifestyle. I could care less if she wins or loses on Saturday. I want to welcome her to the culture that has taken me so far in life. Saturday is a test for her, yes. However, she has the rest of her life to prove she understands the life lessons wrestling has taught her/us. It has taught me to show everyone who has the guts to step to the center and shake hand a level of respect others have to work hard to earn from me.
  8. Let's see: She has wrestled for how many years? She is on a top 20 team in the state? She was JV all season until she got this opportunity, and even then she won the respectable Jim Nicholson (Charger) Invite? Will they mention that she has been invited to Olympic Training Center this spring? Will they mention how many other IN wrestlers have been invited in the history of the OTC? What will they say when she qualifies a second time in her senior year? Now for the 'what if' questions (no pressure Sara, just trying to make a point)? What if she lands on a college/Olympic team? What if she continues the movement for women's wrestling? What if she can change the minds of single minded legislatures and her story in the catalyst for reform? Bring it on! How will other state view us?! Either way, she has made an incredible impression on the people who have taken the time to really get to know the PERSON. Nothing else matters.
  9. http://www.etruth.com/Know/News/Story.aspx?ID=505389 She was featured in the late night news yesterday. There is supposed to be a followup tonight too.
  10. "It's ok, your mom still thinks your a good wrestler." "Son, you got your ars kicked on the handshake." After calling an excessively hard head slap, "It's not a pillow fight ref." A teammate quit for a few days and went home to enjoy mom's homecooking. Upon returning he heard, "Stewart! Are you asleep or just so fat you can't open your eyes?"
  11. Lj, this is priceless. I wish we started every season with this quote. Thanks for pointing this out again!
  12. AWood1 turned into a successful landscape architect, wait... he was a boxer. ??? AWood3 wrestled but he is unemployed... >
  13. Is there any chance that Sarah will go "Toe-to-Joe" this season? I would love to hear from her. What is her motivation to wrestle? She always seems so shy everytime someone talks to her. When I see someone try to talk to her she seems to treat everyone else like they are the star! She is going to the OTC later this Spring. I would love to hear about that! Also, I have 3 beautiful little girls (3, 7, & 11) in my life. What would Sara say to a young girl who is just entering wrestling for the first time? Joe, can we make this happen?
  14. 1994, quarterfinals, knocked a referee out cold. I worked my second sectional tournament with him a few years later ;D
  15. Wow, seriously D2d? Logansport has the worst luck since they seem to have complaints about the Regional officials every year. Is it the officials calls, or the results that have you so upset? Burger King must be a hit in your area. You know what they say, "you can have it your way..."
  16. Congrats Sarah! I can't wait to see your draw!
  17. If you are in Mishawaka's path you had better be ready for a brawl. The Jimmies put on an outstanding performance. They were ready to match Mishawaka blow-for-blow. Obviously the Caveman have an answer for just about anything you can throw at them. I have to add that I think Schrader is the scrappiest of the whole bunch. Every time I watch this kid wrestle he surprises me in a different way. At the Al Smith he won in the final seconds with a backwards summersault that landed the other kid on his back. Last night his final match was part wrestling match/street fight and he won both
  18. This is the kind of smart ars response that makes me love INmat. Y2, haven't I seen you at Wood reunion before?!?!?!?!?
  19. If Coach Anderson can't help you do it, then it can't be done. That's coming from a fellow Manchester grad and teammate of his. Good luck to you!
  20. One of the things that I am proudest of about wrestling is the character it takes. There are no teammates to blame, you can't dodge opponents. You must face each challenge squarely and honestly. Whether it's cutting weight, or shaking hands with someone you are not expected to beat and finding out if there is any doubt. That seperates wrestling from other sports. I think that many of us share those values and this instance tends to violate that truth. That is the issue, the rest is just politics.
  21. Crawfordsville gives you a better chance of advancing than Hobart?! Sorry, had to do that...
  22. And why can't we 'boo' someone more than once an hour... :
