  1. Beat me to it. Had just put down my piece of pizza to type the same thing. And that's to say nothing of the girls' individual efforts.....
  2. No help on the ettiquette request? Is it because all posted were questions? Should I make a declarative statment? An exclamation?
  3. So where do we draw the line, then? Is it a matter of paying admission? Is it age? If I attend an free event with adults competing, can I not boo? If I pay admission to watch 7 year olds compete can I boo them?
  4. I don't think I agree with the, "booing is wrong, but something needs to be done about the injury time." Seems to me that as the boos have increased, the seeming unnecessary injury time has has also increased...so booing doesn't seem to do much to fix that. My thought....what if you give up your stall warning if you take injury time? Haven't totally thought it through, just kinda came to me in a brainstorm...
  5. Maybe use of cell phones in class would have been more analogous. The point is, when a decision about kids is hard for adults to make the best idea is usually not to poll the kids and see what they want.
  6. I am curious if 90% of kids wanted McDonald's for lunch every day at school would there still be advocates for healthy school lunch? Sometimes adults know what's best better than kids do. I don't have any data, but out of curiosity I posted a question on a Michigan high school wrestling board about going to single class, and was surprised at the response. It wasn't so much that they were against it...the idea must be so ludicrous to them, they didn't even seem to understand what I meant. They all wanted to talk about taking the champions of their four divisions and making a tournament. Even after I clarified, people just kept saying stuff about how having all of the division champs in a tournament would be kinda cool, but not really worth the hassle. So methinks they are quite content with how a four division system affects their wrestling.
  7. None of this accurately describes my experience taking kids to state. For both of our wrestlers, people were over-joyed to be making the trip. And we had quite a hoopla from the school surrounding the trip to state. Some (new) guys on our team in the following years remarked that they were in the room because of seeing classmates on the floor at Banker's Life. That was a small school, so every one knew both of our qualifiers quite well. Hopefully our experience was closer to the norm, instead of being an outlier.
  8. Again, I ask how is a single class individual tournament good for the sport of wrestling in our state? I love the current tournament, but only because I like to watch it. I like watching the Lakers and Knicks lose, too...but it isn't good for the NBA. We have proposed some hypotheses on how a two-class system would benefit Indiana wrestling. So far, I have seen no posts that say how a single class system is beneficial.
  9. As did mine, but some head coaches are starting from scratch trying to build a staff. Not everyone is like you and I and decides they want to start coaching as soon as they step off the mat for the last time...some people find that out later...so the wife doesn't realize what she's getting into. Thus, a little something might make the negotiations a bit easier.
  10. You make a valid point, but it is a lot easier to tell the wife/husband and kids, "Hey, I am going to go spend some time with other people's children" if you are at least bringing a token paycheck home.
  11. Just posting again in case someone has thought of an answer.
  12. The argument in favor of class wrestling is that it will help the sport in Indiana by increasing small school participation. Is there any argument that single class is beneficial besides that it makes the state finals cooler to watch? How does having one champion improve the sport in our state (compared to multiple)?
  13. Well, given that neither of us has the data necessary to determine the experimental probability of either of these situations, it is not possible to know the truth value of the statement. However, knowing your opinion on this issue does help to complete my understanding of your opinion on class wrestling overall.
  14. So your opinion is that when a Mishawaka freshman and a Triton freshman step on the mat the first day of practice freshman year, each has an equal likelihood of earning a medal at state before the four year timer is up? Is that an accurate assessment?
  15. Is it very advantageous for a program and it's athletes to have a big room? Or is it no big deal to find other avenues like they do at Tecumseh?
  16. If it is so easy for small school wrestlers to win state titles when they are only wrestling other small school wrestlers, doesn't it kinda water down the state medals for big school wrestlers in our current format? How can a Merrillville wrestler really be satisfied with an 8th place medal if they beat a Triton kid Friday night?
  17. Can you please reference me to the post that supports the claim that being classed is about how hard it is to beat the "Big Schools?" All of the ones I have looked at state that the motivation is to improve participation.
  18. I feel great. The 138 came to me...then I challenged myself to do the other 13.
  19. 106 - It seems to be Cummings together for this youngster. 113 - He Drew upon his experience to conquer the field. 120 - This guy wasn't Brenden any rules on his way to the top of the podium. 126 - It's hard to Gaige how far this champ will go next weekend. 132 - This champ will be no Laughlin matter at Banker's LIfe. 138 - He was given Clarence for a trip to Indy. 145 - His foes find it tough to (La)wrence the stain of defeat. 152 - No one could get through the walls of the Forte put up by this champ. 160 - Hughes going to stop this guy? 170 - The bracket was overcome with Joey. 182 - He's headed to Chase down a state title. 195 - One couldn't ask for a Fowler draw than this top seed. 220 - Opponents couldn't seem to get out of the Woods when he was on the mat. 285 - This guy really Streck a chord with the crown.
  20. I wonder how long the, "Go back to one class" thread is in Michigan.
  21. Whew, good, I am glad I did. But, man I had such a good point:} Can't we just pretend like you were speaking literally?
  22. In my heart, I genuinely think you would feel different if it were you, your son, or an athlete you coached who was being called a "Nebraska Classed State Champion." I coached with a fellow who was a state champion in Michigan, and I asked him what he would say if someone chided him about his classed state title. He said his reply would be very simple. He would say, "Well, what about you? How many state titles have you won?" And then he laughed. Because classed or not, most people you run into their answer would be, "Zero."
