  1. I've had great experiences with Rudis and Compound.
  2. I've actually heard the same thing and 1 year at IU we had a couple guys walk on the football team and were told similar things. It has to do with an older program using scholarship incorrectly and recruiting a ton of Heavyweight wrestlers, that by chance also played football. So my understanding is that a scholarship wrestler can walk on to a team but if the scholarship wrestler steps on the field in a varsity game the scholarship has to be changed from wrestling to football. I tried finding some sources but it was hard to comb through the scholarship websites.
  3. I totally agree I didn't feel like most of the questions dealt with any real concerns most wrestling coaches have.
  4. Couldn't doing this in week night duals wreak havoc on the weigh management system? If your 106 is your best kid between 106 and 113 and the dual starts at 113 if he doesn't weigh in at 106 (or with in 1.5lb) for a dual during the week there is a good chance his weight for the weekend will not count as a qualifying weigh-in. I know the simple solution is to just stay on weight but if you were a 106 wrestling 113 during the week what would you want to weigh?
  5. 2 Good ones from my wrestling days. 1. A kid drank 10 20oz Surges at lunch. (It was the launch of Surge and they gave them out for free). He passes out and feel down some stairs. (He was alright) 2. A kid didn't make the tournament because we actually left the school without him. He was upstairs running and nobody got him. He said he ran for quite a while before coming down and realized we had left.
  6. Great Job! I am glad you enjoyed it! It does really make it special for the kids especially for some of those kids on your team that may never get the ability to wrestle at state or under the lights.
  7. With the great Drizzle Storm of 2017 causing it to get canceled last year it is not looking good.
  8. That is awesome! We have tinkered with it the last 2 years and I think we have some changes for next year. If you have a team Facebook page you can live stream from there as well but there just won't be any commentary. The one thing we have struggled with is getting the media to our event. We invite every newspaper in the area and even try some television stations and can't get anyone out. It's pretty frustrating. Good luck with your event and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me!
  9. Being a coach and on the floor and in the locker rooms all day, I didn't know those restrooms existed for a number of years. The first time I walked in I honestly thought I had been transported to a different universe.
  10. Bloomington South
  11. Huge Thanks to Bloomington South for traveling to southern Indiana on a Wednesday night. The Final Score was Bloomington South 36 vs Floyd Central 25. Match count was 7 to 7 with Bloomington winning the bonus point battle. The atmosphere was awesome with the lights, sound, and state finals announcer Kevin Whitehead calling the action. The matches were just as exciting as the atmosphere. It was a great night for wrestling. We (Floyd Central) are excited about getting to compete in their Regional this year. Also shout out to the Madison youth program and Silver Creek Middle School (Local Start up team) for coming out and being the opening act. Just like the varsity there was a lot of exciting matches. If you would like to watch the action it is has been posted to our Facebook Page.

    Floyd Central vs. Calumet

    Floyd Central
  14. Floyd Central High School is once again doing "Rage on The Stage" This is an idea that we took from some of the college programs around the country. We will be wrestling Bloomington South in our Schools auditorium. Floyd Central has a nationally recognized theater program and they help us put on a really god show with lights and music. This Year we will be wrestling the Bloomington South Panthers!! We have State Finals veteran official Kevin Hulsman to officiate and we have also landed the State Finals announcer Kevin Whitehead to announce this event. If your are in the Southern Indiana Area you should really come check out this event. We also plan on running Facebook live. So like our page here Floyd Central Facebook Page to watch. Dec. 13th Youth/Middle School 5pm JV 6:30pm Varsity Face Offs: 7:00pm
  15. Live drilling is a little different than what we consider sparring. Sparring we go about 75% and always move through positions. Live Drilling is something I picked up when Reggie Wright was one of my coaches at IU. I thought they were miserable and would always prefer wrestling live, hence why we now incorporate them. You should be finishing at match speed but instead of simply cutting your opponent the guy getting takedown has to roll over and stand up. Same guy does takedowns the entire time. We usually go :30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 1:30, 1:00, :30. The intensity is often dictated by how quickly the guy getting takedown gets up. Once one guy goes it is the other guys turn. We will do it where 1 guy does the entire pyramid then the other guy or where we alternate and each guy does the time. I hope this helps. It gives the feeling and conditioning of match speed but is also way lower risk of injury.
  16. We are probably 75% drilling and 25% live at the beginning of the season. As the season moves towards the post season those percentages flip. We also incorporate live drilling which I believe is significantly more difficult than wrestling live.
