  3. Interesting about Perry and Evan. Reitz. How many teams not in the top 20 would have faired well against these top 20 in Semi State competitors? Hopefully I didn't make any mistakes. Mishawaka 13 Crown point 11 Yorktown 12 Perry 6 Castle 11 Evan Rei 6 Evan MD 10 Merriville 12 Penn 10 Portage 8 Bloom. 4. Nice job Coach Hoover. Way to help get what these kids deserve!! The right to compete like every other Regional qualifier. Kudos. 2/8/10 IHSWCA Members and Wrestling Community: I believe the time has come for me to address several situations that have occurred over the past few weeks. We have seen blatant weight loss program violations, the integrity of our state tournament put in jeopardy, a weigh-in controversy, and sadly kids being eliminated from our tournament series without an opportunity to compete. The coaches association sits squarely in the middle of these controversies and we will stay strong and lead through these times. I am disappointed and upset that things have come to this, but I will work and do what I can to make things right. I obviously can make no promises, but we are working with the IHSAA. Coaches are obligated to help wrestlers develop into outstanding citizens and responsible adults. Winning of course is fun and great, but it is a byproduct of doing things right. I cringe when I hear stories of defaulting matches trying to get a better match-up the next week. We need to be mentors and role models for our wrestlers. Coaches, we must do a better job of following the weight loss program whether we like it or not. We will be working to make the system more user friendly, but we have people who knowingly violate the program. The situation at the Jay County Regional is unacceptable to me. This event should not have taken place. I will not cast blame because many factors went into the decision. We are working to try to give the student-athletes involved their opportunity. I can make no promises, but I hope a solution can be reached that is fair. Finally, I have heard and been told the IHSWCA does not care about small schools. I will repeat this until everyone listens and believes. I love wrestling and I care about all schools and wrestlers. I wrestled at Central Noble HS where the largest team we finished with in my four years had nine wrestlers. We won two dual meets in four years! After my junior year, our AD went to the school board and recommended the program be dropped. It was saved with a fight from the community, and I went on to wrestle at Purdue for two years. I came up short on my dream of being a state champion, but wrestling has taught me many lessons that have helped me get to where I am at today. The wrestling community must stick together stay the course in these tough times. If we ever want to improve our sport through the IHSAA we must conduct ourselves in a professional and ethical manner and stop making decisions that put wrestling in the crosshairs of the governing body. Sincerely Cale Hoover IHSWCA President Head Coach, Center Grove HS
  5. Actually I misspoke and seeing that this is a predictions thread, I'll have to go with Bloomington South over Franklin 35-28. And then Perry over Bloomington 38-18.
  6. Franklin won the title. Now they get hurt by Perry. Extra6 you must be a Franklin fan. Your predictions were way off. Best match of the day was Juliano and Mappes.
  7. Did Milton go against Bowman today at 140? Or was that someone else? And VanDemon lost to Stevenson from Indian Creek. Is that Aarons brother? Also notable match was Raley against Schofield. Raley won 6-2?????
  8. I agree. I counted 6 first round matches that should have been fought in the finals.
  9. I wouldn't guess at matchups yet. Some of the wrestlers are not at their finished weight.
  10. Who cares how long it takes.......................Evansville had 8 number 1's go down in the first round. That tells me we gave opportunities to all those young men to have a chance at State and 8 obviously took advantage of it. Kudos to IHSAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. The organization of the State tournament is actually pretty good. Just have to drive far if you don't live in the middle of the state where they normally run the event. Also, team tournaments are very rare. Except for weekly league dual meets, almost everything is individual.
  12. I know they were talking about it back in the 70's. Just never happened.
  13. Except California............I was just reading the results from the "5 County Invitational" they run out there. 86 team individual tourny. Wrestle backs start after the first round.
  14. I guess they could do the same for wrestling???????? But then that would go against your everyone deserves a medal theory? ;D
  15. And based on the probability, since big schools have 75% of the students and small schools have 25% of the students, a state caliber wrestler is 3x as likely to be on a big school's sectional roster. So you're saying that big schools have distinct advantages? If that is what you are saying then that is the case for class wrestling at both the individual and team levels. Isn't that why they want classes for football? No, if they didn't have classes in Football it would take almost the whole season at one game per week just to complete the playoffs.
  16. Y2, I think you should move to California. 37 million people, 2000 public high schools (not sure how many private), and ONE State Champion per weight. Talk about being able to say your the best................
  17. Kolb was up when Reese made a mistake and could not get out of it. Kolb also looked very much in control. I wasn't a fan until I saw his determination. He will be a contender.
  18. Dustin Vires is the same one that was with Center Grove last year. The team really misses him.
  19. A couple of you need to do some serious homework. You guys probably bet on Detroit to win the superbowl.
  20. I'm not saying we should be like everyone else. I'm asking why anyone should ever get a free pass?
