How is that without knowing the whole truth? Plain and simple those states do not compete well at the national level. With your logic a state like Vermont would compete better nationally if they had classes. I would seriously beg to differ. -

I love how easy it is to manipulate statistics, first of all there aren't 40+ states with class wrestling. Second of all, of the states with one class over fifty percent of them are in the bottom half of the most populous states in the country and the ones that are in the top half (California, Texas, New Jersey, and Indiana) repeatedly produce studs at the collegiate level. Also, on the discouragement of specialization topic, that can be felt at any school regardless of size as long as one sport, usually football, dominates, which is the case at many big schools. -
So what would the abbreviation be for this association?.....Would it be the Indiana Department of Education Wrestling State Finals?

hahahaha.....Nice post rat, but if that is the case then Shrewsbury, Young and Runyan won't perform well at all. I just don't see that happening.

Richey actually wrestled 112 all three years before this year, I would consider that a great transition.

Indy area huh?.....They wouldn't have happened to be talking about Jacob Tonte would they. He is a good wrestler but man, does he ever rely on that headlock. -
I like what the NCWA did with implementing the 235 lb weight class. I think that Jim Giunta and the other brains behind that organization realized that there was a void at that spot and thought that there was no sense in a wrestler weighing 230 and cutting to 197, or having to wrestle 285. Honestly, I agree with it and I think that it made it more competitive so that wrestlers naturally in the 215-245 weight range could wrestle.

I think the girl you are refering you is C.C. Weber, and if you are, she's definately no slouch and I'd be willing to bet she would go to state in Indiana too. She comes from a great wrestling family, her brother Mark was a 4x state champion in Michigan and currently wrestles for the Michigan Wolverines. So for you to base a states competetive rank among other states on a girl going to state there is a joke, and a distasteful one at that. Women's wrestling has come a long way in the past decade. Have fun telling Terry Steiner his girls can't hang with anyone at a competitive level.

I'd say it would have to be someone from south central Indiana. TripleB and Tskin are great sources but other than a few select tournaments I don't think either of them see kids from the southwestern part of the state, which is mostly considered the powerhouse of southern Indiana.

I can't say that I saw him on the podium. I am not trying to call you out to see if you would actually post it, I really want to see the video, and if I am wrong I apologize for the post. I'm just saing from my vantage point I didn't see anything wrong and neither did the people I was sitting with.

Is there anyway you could post the video, from my viewpoint there was certainly nothing dirty. Maybe you had a better view than our row.

From what I heard it was a dominating 3-2, I left after 140 but that was what I was told. -
Did you see the match? The cradle was broken before that happened, and you can mess up someones eye pretty bad unintentionally, sorry to tell you. Regardless, both kids wrestled hard and it was physical from the start. Congrats Barlow and Richey, I see both of them advancing this saturday.

Sorry but from my point of view (front row just to the left of the mat) the poke to the eyes was not blatant. Richey had some control on the single he had and Barlow whizzered while keeping his head down. They starting hand fighting, Quincy to keep control of the leg and Barlow to get away from him, right by Barlows face and it just so happened to catch him in the face. From what I've seen the Richey's aren't dirty wrestlers and are very technically sound. I dont think Quincy got to the regional finals as an undefeated freshman by wrestling "dirty". Also, the rest of the people I was sitting around where in total agreement.

I think this discussion has come up before on Howe and his mat wrestling ability. I think he started working on his mat wrestling his senior year and stopped the whole take them down and cut them thing to get ready for college. This was why he had far more takedowns his junior year than his senior year. I am also willing to bet that getting away from Pritzlaff in practice is a win in itself and that probably gives him confidence and from the looks of it Barry Davis has his wrestlers confident that they can hold anyone in the country down.

I remember on the old board that someone brought up the topic about Indiana State University starting a club wrestling team to compete in the NCWA. Does anybody have any updates or new information on this?

Kegan Handlovic is the 125 at Purdue that you are talking about. He was a 2x PIAA state champion at Easton High School and I believe AA'd a few times. His high school teammate Jordan Oliver currently wrestles for Oklahoma State not Oklahoma (there seems to be confusion about that on flowrestling too). As for Quiroga and Eppert I would say they will get their shot in due time, take some lumps, and wrestle in opens just like Handlovic is currently doing. I'll call in 3 years they will be the starting 125 and 133 pounders for Purdue, because if I am not mistaken Handlovic is a true freshman and did not take a red-shirt year. We will see how it plays out within the next few years.

Poorly Run Sectionals, What can be done.........

I'm not so sure TripleB would want to be on the "volunteer list" as he has to coach eight kids on saturday. I, on the other hand would like to avoid that entrance fee. Where do I sign? -
I attended this camp about 3 weeks before I went to Fargo. A few others had the same Idea, it was a great experience for the simple fact of the caliber of wrestlers that where there. On top of that you can tell Jeff Jordan loves what he does and actually cares about the wrestlers, he knew everyones name by the time they left and he even takes care of you while you are there. Two examples: 1. I forgot my pillow(dumb I know) and he saw me without one approached me and asked me why I didn't ask him for one earlier. 2. My kneepads where junk so he gave me one of his, I don't imagine at a bigger camp like IU or OSU that Goldman or Ryan would give you one of their kneepads. Possibly the biggest benefit to this camp is if you come from a team that doesnt practice drilling correctly, he gets the idea across quickly. So overall, you wrestle with the best kids in the nation, he takes care and cares for every wrestler there and you learn how to drill properly. It was a huge confidence booster and helped me out tremendously in high school. It was worth every penny and I would recommend it to anyone that has the desire to work hard and get better.

Both of the New Prairie kids went on to wrestle in college too, I believe. Kraus went to Trine and Oudius went to Campbellsville.

Bwillis10, I am not saying Resch isn't a good wrestler as he has gained leaps and bounds since last year, but I also BELIEVE he won't come within 4 points when he wrestles Colon. I'm not trying to bash him by any means, he will be a VERY good wrestler in the near future. This is my OPINION and it is not biased.

NoGutsNoGlory, I think we can tell you are from Jennings County more by your predictions than by the map on your profile. Depending on the seeding if Resch and Colon meet up in the semi's or possibly the finals Resch won't touch him. Your prediction seems to bank off of Rieker beating Colon, first of all its a difference of styles and second of all even if you where to look at it that way Colon was beating Rieker 6-2 before Rieker threw him. If Reitman stays at 130 I don't see him beating Richey and didn't Barger just beat Biggs at conference, also I believe Smith will handle Collett if they meet up in the finals. I am not trying to downplay the talent of Jennings County as they do have some really good wrestlers and as I see it two potential state qualifiers. I am just trying to bust the dillusional bias that Jennings County is the best thing since sliced bread. (Excuse the awful cliche'....I couldn't think of anything else)
