  1. Maybe arbitrary was the wrong way to say it. What I meant was that just a few schools one way or the other you can really change the numbers. How accurate are those enrollment numbers? How often are they taken? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just trying to argue with both sides, because I still don't know which side I'm on. Ya, Bellmont's numbers have definitely been going down on the team and at the school overall. If things keep going the way they are now, Bellmont will be right around that 700 number. (I definitely wouldn't mind having a decent chance to take a shot at MD every year)
  2. I completely understand what you're saying..... and I'm constantly weighing it against the fact that a wrestler is on a mat on his own, without other teammates. Obviously the issue here is in the wrestling room and practice partners. If you're in a room of 1 compared to Perry's 40, are you at an inherent disadvantage? Probably, and that's most likely the best argument that is always made.
  3. Your argument has a little bit of a hole there, considering that if you just raise your arbitrary number of 700 to 727, you have a decent chance of getting 3 out of 8 teams at team state under 727. Also, this may be a completely irrelevant comment, but I think within the next 10 years, that median of enrollment is going to be much higher. We are going to have a considerable amount of consolidations with the way things are going.
  4. BTW, I have no problem classing team state, even though I really don't like the idea. I'm still looking for that argument that will sway me on the individual side though. The only real argument that I've completely understood is that if small school kids can go deeper into a class tournament, it will give them more recognition, something to strive for, self-confidence, and maybe more kids will want to wrestle. Not a bad argument.... but I'm not sure if that's enough to convince me.
  5. I definitely understand both sides of this argument, and I don't think your answer really makes sense when you look at my question. Isn't it just a matter of numbers? If Ohio has 10,000 high school wrestlers then they get 100 NCAA wrestlers. If Indiana has 5,000 high school wrestlers then they get 50 NCAA wrestlers. Why is that a bad thing or unfair?
  6. Why shouldn't a state with more HS wrestlers have more quality college wrestlers than a state with less wrestlers?
  7. 1. I am not sure anyone is giving Justice the respect he deserves. He could have EASILY made it to state last year, he lost 6-5 on Meyer in the sectional semi's last year. 2. Just like last year, it looks like there's a chance that all four state qualifiers from the FW SS will come from Jay County.
  8. The Heavyweights at the Jay County Regional would squash those at North Montgomery. ;D
  9. No, I hit it dead on, I don't know why you guys keep telling me that. The kid did quit and Huntington finished ahead of them in 7 classes, and probably would have finished ahead of them at the weight they then had to forfeit. The only thing I didn't get right was that Huntington's 119 would pin himself in the finals.
  10. Actually, I think my post was about as true as can be. The fact that they forfeited 189 instead of having the 2 seed kept them from winning. It's pretty cut and dry.
  11. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened and it is a shame that one kid can ruin 13 other kids' season.

  13. Ya, I honestly think that you will see them in the finals next week and it will be a toss-up. Bultemeier will definitely make some adjustments and I think it will be another great match, with a few less nearfalls.
  14. #7 Andrew Bultemeier-Bellmont at 215 lost 15-13 to unranked Biberstine of southern Wells in finals. #4 Jim West-South Adams at HWT pinned by Elijah Justice of Blackford. West then went into final sudden death OT and won to advance to 3rd/4th place match
  15. so much for all that marion talk. yikes
  16. most of the results have been posted.....
  17. James didn't seem very impressive at all...... Biberstine was definitely better today.
  18. lol, have you ever been to a volleyball match? The net stays the same height, the players are of varying heights. High Schools follow national rules, girls can't play at the mens' net height and vice versa.
  19. I'm tired of this argument, so let me add my two cents. I really have no problem with girls wrestling separately from boys. The problem lies in the fact that if we implemented that, it would be intentionally unfair for the girls because they wouldn't have the opportunities the boys currently have. Maybe it would change, maybe it wouldn't. After some long discussion about whether sports should be parts of budget cuts in the State of Indiana, I came away thinking everyone wanted as many sports as possible so that more kids got more opportunities to participate. That being said, I do not see how someone can honestly say that anyone should be denied such an opportunity based on something that is inherently out of their control. I would also like to say that I completely respect others' ideas on this issue and if they, or their kid, don't want to wrestle a girl, then they can have that opinion and take that route, even if I don't agree with it. What you can't do is exclude girls just because YOU don't think they should be there. Just my two cents. Good night, and enjoy one of the best days of the year tomorrow.
  20. I am pretty sure it deals with the height of the net, but don't quote me on that. If baseball and softball were comparable enough (which I am not sure how that one works), then I doubt the IHSAA would not have been afraid of a little old lawsuit that came their way.
  21. Ya, adding a 5th guy definitely made it more difficult to make the picks.
  22. I'm pretty sure there have been decades of Court decisions upholding these rulings, but maybe they don't matter.... I think there is actually a logistical matter in why guys can't play volleyball with girls. There are specific rule differences between the two that could not be combined into one sport. The same is not true in some of these other sports. If girls can be awarded scholarships to play football in college and are completely eligible for a career in professional football, I am not sure how you can argue against them playing football by virtue of the constitution.
