  1. Jimtown, The kids told me the news few months ago, thats a great addition. Nick will fit in great. I know the boys were glad to hear Nick decided on UIndy. It should be fun to watch the next several years.
  2. You are correct, I knew Nelson won state that year.
  3. I would agree Campbell would be on top, but for obvious reasons I got to believe Josh Kieffer is close second, 5th ( lost to state champ Raley 7-4 ) 2nd Runner-Up ( lost to Hawkins in double OT) 4th. ( Lost to state champ Bradley in semis) 2nd Runner-up lost to a JMcKinnley. First year college wrestling( D2) with UIndy is AA (6th). RS last year goes under the knife and gets a shoulder repaired ( 9 months of rehab ) will have 3 years left to capture a National Championship. Josh wrestled with a dislocated shoulder his entire HS career, for one reason he never wanted to miss one opportunity to win a state championship. His shoulder was a train wreck. He never used it as excuse. If anyone followed Roncalli wrestling, you seen him dislocate his shoulder over and over, and he kept on wrestling. He is my kid, and for lots of reasons I don't like to brag about any of my boys, but I am going to put my two cents in on this topic.

  5. I am not a Perry guy, but I respect the s* * * * out of their program, and this is total B.S. I am pretty sure the coaches would of like to have everyone involved in that state picture. Its a total shame what the IHSAA has done to the word "TEAM" .
  6. A good article on wrestling D1 or D2. Trevor Johnson's dreams were to wrestle at the NCAA Division I level when he graduated from Bismarck High. That dream turned into a reality when he inked at North Dakota State and became a teammate of his older brother Tyler. Trevor Johnson declared exercise science as his major. On the mat, Johnson was doing just fine. He was a starter for the Bison at 141 pounds until the regional meet when he lost a wrestle-off to a teammate. http://bismarcktribune.com/mobile/article_c62fc970-1ee7-11e1-bab5-001871e3ce6c.html

Sports Information Director 2/24/2013 10:30:00 PM Final Brackets | Final Team Scores (coming soon) WATERLOO, Iowa- Four of Head Coach Jason Warthan's Greyhound wrestlers will be making the trip to the 2013 NCAA Division II National Championships, one as a regional champion. Alex Johns, Justin Kieffer, Cameryn Brady and Evan Wooding all earned trips to the national meet, finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the NCAA Division II Super Regional 3. The four qualifiers are the most ever from a Warthan-coached UIndy team, and the most the No. 16 Greyhounds have sent since four also qualified in 2008. As a team, the Greyhounds finished tied for fourth with Maryville with a total of 72.5 points. St. Cloud State, via sending nine to the national meet, won the team race with 140.5 points, with host Upper Iowa takine second with 95.5 points. No. 2 Johns took the 2013 NCAA Division II Super Regional 3 125-pound championship with a 5-1 win over St. Cloud State's Eric Forde. The top-seeded Johns (26-3) went 3-0 on the day en route to the title, pinning his first opponent before taking wins in the semis and finals via decision. The redshirt junior will make his second trip to the national meet, after qualifying in 2010. Kieffer earned his first trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships via a second-place finish in the 141 bracket. Kieffer (17-9) was the bracket's No. 3-seed, and went 2-1 on the day. The sophomore pinned his first opponent, and bested the weight class' No. 2 seed, Matt Nelson of St. Cloud State, in the semifinals 4-3 to advance to the bracket championship. Kieffer fell 10-2 to top-seeded and #2 Trevor Johnson of Mary in the title match. No. 4 Brady (17-3) punched his ticket for his first NCAA Division II national meet by taking third place in the 149 weight class, The two-time NCAA Division III national qualifier at Manchester went 4-1 on the day as the bracket's two-seed, including a 7-6 win over Augustana's Nate Herda, the No. 3-ranked 149 pounder in DII, in the third-place match. 8. Congrats Josh, you have earned everything you have gotten. You have grown up so much, not long ago we would load up the truck and head to a wrestling tournament, that was fun stuff. Pops was in your corner last night. One question, did you give up fast food for lent this year? Take care and enjoy this STATE CHAMPIONSHIP kid...
  9. Any information on Roach and Murphy? I thought I seen Roach, but did not see Murphy.
  10. I will say that most of you have made some very good arguements, and wish I had the power to change the situation. I do feel bad for so many of the wrestlers who have fallen into such bad draws. Fabio, I think you have the right plan. I enjoy this board, Joe Caprino has done a great job of promoting this sport. I get on this web site and really enjoy most of everyones opinions. Your passion for the sport speaks volume. I have been involved in several sports, but I was not a wrestler. My kids got me into the sport, and I love it. The best sport in the world, for several reasons. Most of my reasons have nothing to do with winning or losing. So, I get it. My trust is with all of you who have done this sport and know what is best for kids. " Situation " your point is taken, my son was in the middle of the Eppert and Schoettle ticket round, Jimmy won the regionals and got the worst draw you could get. Jimmy should of had the opportunity to advance. We can only hope the IHSAA gets it right. Peace..
  11. You must misread my comment. Never mention anything about "life being fair bs". So if you fixed the semi-state problem, do you wine about the bad draw on Friday night?
  12. What do you think about the football draw? LC was playing Mishawaka for the 5a title. WC, Carmel all lost in the sectionals. Roncalli and Cathedral play every year in the first, second or Championship game of the sectionals. Is that right, those kids could argue their seasons were cut short because of a bad draw. I am just saying it happens in other sports. Old wrestler, to answer your question before you ask, yes I have seen my kids get good draws, and I have seen them get bad.
  13. 2009 119 weight class was loaded, my son Justin Kieffer knew the draw on Friday night was going to be rough. Eathan Raley was a returning State Champ, with only one lose in his hs career. He got Raley on Friday night. The situation at hand was beat him on Friday night and move on, or lose and go home. That was great, what pressure. Those opportunitys are rare in life, not just with wrestling, but in just general life situations. I can tell you with all respect given to Eathen, ( at the end of Raley hs career, 2x state champ, 1x State Runner-up) to Justin it was a State championship match. My point being, I really enjoy the system in place, some view it as a bad draw, some view it as an opportunity.
  14. I just like to give notice to University of Indianapolis wrestling. The article below can be found on the University athletic web site. The coaches at UIndy have been very supported with this cause. Cancer research is very expensive, and if not for all those who donated to the cause in the years past, we would not be so advance with the prognoses. Thanks to Coach Warthan and Assistant Coach Bob Brubeck for their continued support. Sports Information Director 10/26/2012 5:57:00 PM INDIANAPOLIS- The University of Indianapolis wrestling team will be pledging this season to honor a member of its family affected by leukemia. Joe Kieffer, the younger brother of Greyhound wrestlers Justin Kieffer and Josh Kieffer, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia prior to his senior year of high school at nearby Roncalli. The diagnosis and ensuing treatment caused Joe to postpone his senior year and senior wrestling season with the Rebels, after being an IHSAA semistate qualifer at 140 pounds as a junior. KiefferBrothers The Kieffer brothers (L to R): Josh, Joe and Justin "The support from the wrestling family is amazing," Joe Kieffer said. "It's an honor for UIndy to be making this pledge and donation in my name to help other kids affected by leukemia." With his leukemia currently in remission, Joe is now back at school. He is beginning his senior year at Roncalli and will, however, still undergo treatment for the next 15 months. To honor the fight of Joe and the Kieffer family, Greyhound wrestling has dedicated its 2012-13 season to pinning down leukemia, with a season-long pledge drive that will benefit the Childhood Leukemia Foundation in honor of Joe Kieffer. UIndy will raise money through pledges per pin they get on the season, with Head Coach Jason Warthan and Assistant Coach Bob Brubeck also donating based upon the amount of times the Greyhounds get pinned on the season. "It is always great when we can help out the community, but this is special because we have the chance to honor someone within our Greyhound Wrestling family," Warthan said. "We hope that we can make the lives of some children like Joe better through this pledge." The Childhood Leukemia Foundation aims to educate, empower and raise awareness and the necessary funds to support programs that benefit children living with cancer. More information on the CLF can be found here. To make your pledge online, follow this link. To keep up with UIndy wrestling's progress in this campaign throughout the year, visit their Pin Down Leukemia page here.
  15. Promote your child, contact the school via email, tell your kid to keep facebook rated G, more then anything work harder in the classroom. Look at the list of college signing last year, some big changes occured for many different reasons. Lets face it, colleges do not hand out much $ for wrestling. If you can get some $ for wresling along with academic money it will help soften the over all bill for a college education.
  16. I could not be more pleased to see my kids pick UIndy. The program is full of very talented wrestlers along with just good kids. The staff is more then just great coaches they are father figures to these kids. I speak only from my family ( I am pretty sure most parents feel the same way as we do ) but Coach Warthem and his crew are top notch individuals. First, get your education. College is supposed to be a good experience, not something you dread.
  17. I just want to Thank everyone for attending Joe first golf outing. It was a great success in all accounts. Joe has wanted to organize some kind of fund raiser for cancer research for few months. On Saturday his dream was accomplished with the help of so many volunteers. The format was 2 man scramble with 68 golfers. Among the participants were some very familiar wrestling greats. Lance Ellis, Robert Miller, Dennis Wells, Mark McGuire, Tony and Barry McGinily, Marshall Brothers, Justin and Josh Kieffer and yours truly Joe Caprino. I have often read some very interesting comments about Joe Caprino on this message board, but I will tell you Joe is by far one of most giving individuals I have ever encountered. The guy drove 2 hours down to the south side of Indy and donated several Indiana Mat items for some door prices. On top of participating in the golf outing with a bunch of Catholics. (Lets be truthful, the Catholics enjoy side betting and indulging in some of their favorite beverages). It can get pretty interesting. We had a great time, and raised some money for Riley Hospital, and for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. All proceeds going to cancer research, closing the gap on 100% cure rate. In the 60's when you were diagnosed with leukemia you maybe got a 10% chance. Now with organize fund raisers like Joe golf outing the odds are above 90%. The goal is 100% cure. Thanks for all of your support, you made a difference. Also, a huge thank you to Chris Lynch for all of the Pro Power items. Like Joe Caprino, Chris Lynch is always donating to the cause. The wrestling community is a very solid fraternity.
  18. Barrq, It seems so long ago those two wrestled on that Friday night, but at times it feels like it was just yesterday. We are both very blessed to to have the opportunity to continue watching our boys wrestle at the next level. Congrats to Travis and to you and your wife.
  19. Josh Kieffer Jackie Paquette, Asst. Sports Information Director Bookmark and Share 3/10/2012 4:03:00 PM FINAL TEAM SCORES/BRACKETS PUEBLO, Colo.- Freshman wrestler Josh Kieffer is an All-American, following a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships Saturday afternoon. Kieffer opened Day two of Nationals against Augustana's Cody Lensing (18-5). The Greyhound freshman fell 9-3 to Lensing, putting him on the left side of the bracket fighting for third place. In the day's second match, Kieffer (23-11) wrestled Findlay's Ben Sergent (34-10), who had previously beaten him twice during the regular season. Sergent bested Kieffer via a major decision at the Midwest Classic, and then won in tiebreaker two, 3-2, over the UIndy freshman at Feb. 11's dual meet. Kieffer fell to Sergent, via a pin in 1:47, to send him into the fifth/sixth place bout. Kieffer faced Kenny Trumbetta (35-3) in the fifth place bout, falling 4-1 to take sixth in the nation in NCAA Division II. Kieffer's win total is good for 12th-best all-time by a UIndy freshman, and he becomes just the second Greyhound rookie to be an All-American (Shane Perkey, 4th, 2005)
