I don't know if I would have called the pin, but let's face it, the tilt does come with some degree of risk. I saw him almost do it in an earlier match either Friday or Saturday morning. Too bad.
really? if indeed that is the case then no sectional assignment for you as well. maybe in the future this should be final criteria for officials advancement show them this video and hear their choice. if after the fact you cant admit the clear blown call.... well... just no words.

If you think I'm emotional or think it's about me, then your brain is just wrong in every way it works, or at least how you see my words on a screen. Maybe you need an interpreter? No go ahead and get in the last word and I'll end my time here. Make yourself feel good by finishing this with a shot. I may read it, I may not. But I won't be emotional nor will I care.
Calm down Mr emotional I said it's NOT about you. Hahaha.... my brain is what?? What is your major malfunction son? You do make me laugh.... how about you post another paragraph about less nothing... take a deep breath......

I take it you didn't read all my responses. You took one and decided attack it. You should be imbarassed!

It was quick for a defensive pin call... but his shoulders were both flat for a second and the ref was right there. If the ref was in a different position, he wouldn't have seen it.
If that's really your take.... I had same angle as ref I was middle of mat 2 during injury time. That particular ref should not get a sectional assignment in the future I know we will scratch him from this point on. No less than pathetic call

My first post of the year but I can not sit silent for this b s call. I was 25 ft away mat level. This type of officiating is what calls into question the integrity of officials in general. A ft wayne official making a redicullous call like this in favor of a wrestler from the ft semi state. PATHETIC at best. Get your scratch sheets ready. Any decent official wouldn't have made that call in a fees tyler match. He needs to be sat in front of this video and imbarassed.

Fabio go boooooed by 10,000+ fans for laughing and dancing when Rooks got hurt. You're a real class act!
sitting in the opposite corner during the #145 final was very interesting. in my opinion "Fabio's" choice of words, in match, to his wrestler more disrespectful of his wrestlers opponent than helpful to a wrestler that caliber of Brayton Lee. Just my opinion. my assistant agreed.

How do you anticipate multi class wrestling will help the quality of Indiana HS wrestling, or hurt it?
Please limit the discussion to perceived improvements/detractions to Quality. Thanks
I think the real question is how could it possibly help the quality? Even if there were only two classes wouldn't each be watered down? it would seem the only real argument for an overall rise in quality would be the increased participation that some would expect. So then we have to ask how many years would it take to see a rise in numbers? And during those years how watered down would talent become in each class? Given the fact that most states with class wrestling have numbers that far exceed Indiana's
-
No doubt the best in the business! Would not be a State Finals without the voice of Indiana wrestling.
Couldn't agree more...

This is a very valid point, however its got a little of the chicken and egg thing going on. Without having a program to begin with how do you have the success that leads to more participation? If there is apathy towards wrestling at a given school is class wrestling likely to change that? Do we end up with just a few elite programs at the lower levels that dominate their respective divisions (much the same way it is today)?
I think the programs with clubs particularly at youth level will be the ones to reap the multi class benefits. I still question what effect this would have on the programs that don't have club or major commitment to the sport in place. We essentially have 4-5 1A programs, the rest just field teams (mostly incomplete) does class bring parity or does it just create a few dominant schools who place and win state disproportionately to their peers in the class.
In my opinion there is very little or no validity to the first point. It gives almost no credence to the fact the grass roots level is what increased participation is all about and it starts at home with parents that see the value of what this sport does for kids. for instance having gym classes at the grade school level that have say a 1 month stretch where wrestling is the activity. In my opinion that type of intro to wrestling does far more for participation than any change or implementation at the high school level ever could.
The second point is a better one in my opinion concerning participation but still doesn't seem to really relate to a class wrestling argument. there are plenty of kids from what would be 1A schools that attend an academy that has no particular school or city affiliation, and trains kids from all schools. So it becomes a mecca of wrestling quality that benefits everyone and creates a level of competition at a young age which allows small school kids to compete on the same level as big school kids and that projects directly into high quality high school wrestling across the board regardless of school size.
So in my opinion the "fairness" aspect is really the only valid point. and certainly not a point that would help the sport from a quantity or quality perspective. just a distraction...

I think it's funny that you somehow make the stretch with this post that because they have a large number of great INDIVIDUAL wrestlers, that class wrestling clearly doesn't hurt Ohio. Did any of these guys join wrestling because it is classed? I don't think any single class proponents are saying class wrestling will "hurt" Indiana wrestling talent overall. However, it is up for debate whether or not it would promote and thereby increase the level of wrestling across the state by encouraging more small school kids to wrestle (because they now have a better percentage chance of getting a state championship without the big school guys in their brackets)
And yet after suggesting that class wrestling is a good thing, what do you do when you want to compare the state -- you take the best wrestlers from all classes as your example. In essence, you are presenting a single class list of Ohio wrestlers versus our single class.
Very well stated. I also couldn't make the leap of faith required to assume class wrestling could be a factor in greater participation.

I was mat side and in my opinion I didn't think any of the 3 returns was a slam. all were good solid returns that sounded loud on the dollamur mat. the sound echoed and made it seem worse specially on the third. terrible way to decide a great match

i don't think the two venues are very comparable from parking and access to public areas and seating for the fans to the overall facility for the wresters and coaches. I think the biggest issue yesterday at EC was the fact that the IHSAA provided only 2 coaches passes per team. that wouldn't seem to be very well thought out. but in my opinion i'd give EC a solid 8+ on a 10 point scale and mville a 3 on the same scale. just my opinion

Thanks mike I'm sure it was a bitter sweet day for you guys. Cody will come back stronger and congrats to Jason he looked awesome
thanks mike. bitter sweet is exactly what it was too. graham Calhoun is a super kid very humble with his win easy to root for that kid. but it did break my heart for cody followed by jasons win in the final. I was really happy for him finishing his sr year in the region with a nice semi state tournament.
-
Certainly not upset related, but I was really impressed with Hatch today. I know he's a good wrestler, but it's rare to see a kid constantly attacking from the top position. I felt like there wasn't one second that he wasn't working for a turn or a fall. He was never "just riding". It was really awesome to see.
agreed. it got him in a little trouble against lamore but it doesn't look like it gets to him he's real consistant with his attacks
-
Yet, just more proof why your the State Rankings guy. Awesome job Mike.
yeah great job as always Mike.... I know a lot of work goes into it. well done!! ya gotta love it to do a job this good... thanks man.

Conner Gimson @132 looked really good both days he stood out. I'd have given him OW very solid in every position as a soph. not sure there was a close second for me regardless of tournament choice.

Weighins 8am?

I think he was giving a compliment to the teams who don't use RWA and the success they have had.
lol... if not for the "believe it or not" I'd agree.
-
Believe it or not, there's a lot of good wrestlers being produced in the Region that don't attend RWA.
Believe it or not?? it would seem that when you have a USA Wrestling "top 50" club right next door it would benefit any wrestler to be there when you can. the Chesterton crew is there most every night when out of high school season. they've been mainstays for years at RWA
