I would think Sam Scott from Heritage Hills would start earning som respect. Beat # 19 Teusch, lost to # 14 Simone and just wrestle the match of the day at Evansville North Regional losing to # 6 Cole Ross in the finals, Ross got an escape at the buzzer to win 8-7.

I like how we wrestled up against Castle’s Casebolt for a better match. Lost, but he’s a gamer. He looked very relaxed against the stud Ross today in the final.

Good stuff. Thanks for updating us.

Hope joe and nick will be varsity at the same time at PSU, but with as many studs they bring in you just never know.

They’re two years apart so I’m hoping yes for at least one but hopefully two years. Plus Bratton Lee, CJ, Davison bros, Paris, Hughes, Bayley, Konrath, Covaciu, etc

Yeah I saw that result. It kind of surprised me. It looks like Parkinson has Miller’s number this year, and I know Miller beat Deters last year, not sure if they’ve wrestled this year? I wouldn’t count out any of these three though. Should be fun to watch on Saturday.

They (Deters and Miller) did not wrestle this year. The Castle-N. Posey-Reitz-Central-Mt. Vernon dual was canceled due to weather.

That is true but you still have the problem where certain weights at each SS is LOADED with ranked kids.  You will still have an injustice even with wrestlebacks.  A few weeks back I did an Excel Sheet showing every ranked kid per semi-state.  Per the rankings the toughest weights at each SS are:

    NC - 113 (6 ranked), 120 (7 ranked), 195 (6 ranked), 220 (7 ranked)

    EV - 126 (6 ranked), 138 (7 ranked), 285 (6 ranked)

    EC - 106 (6 ranked), 285 (6 ranked)

    FW - 170 (6 ranked)

My point is you will still not get the best 16 at State -- be happy we have a tournament that gets the majority of the best kids and a few underdogs.

    Wrestlebacks would help greatly though.....

In 2016 Asa beat Rooks at 106 in the ticket round in Evv SS in UTB if I remember right.  I went down to the first row by that mat since my kid has his ticket round match right after, so it was right in front of me.  Rooks was done for the year then wins State the next year.  #studs  #weneedwrestlebacksatSS

One of my other favorite matches from the 2051-16 Evv SS and on the same mat was Egli vs. Denny at 106.  Egli was winning by a few pts and was chin whipped or thrown by Denny with under 20 seconds left and lost a heart breaker.  I became a Denny fan that match (already was an Egli fan).

I always feel like if it's not cold and snowy it's not a true state experience.

The best was a few years ago, maybe 2014/15 when the blizzard hit friday night.

We found out Uber is expensive during a blizzard.

Yes.  Wasn't it snowing Sat morning as well that year? A few inches on the ground.  Plus there was a running race downtown Indy that created quite a traffic jam.  Jumped our taxi and ran through the snow......

If Mooresville is paired with Jeffersonville @ 126 in the E'ville SS, then one mighty fine wrestler is being sent home before that Friday night ever happens.

While I enjoy Lee and he'll AA this year, Yianni is the man to beat at that weight as evidenced in their match here not so long ago.

141 is loaded besides Yanni D. Eirman Mizzou just beat two-time defending champ Dean Heil. Bryce Meredith WY and Kevin Jack NC State are ranked 1-2. Nick will do well to AA in that weight class.

At Mooresville at 170 you have Jonah Hayes and Nick Willham. The loser of that will have one of the top three from Avon which are Carson Brewer, Trizton Carson, and Jean-Baptiste. A good wrestler will be going home for sure.

I think Hays beats Jean-Baptiste this Sat.

Well, being from a different part of the state I don't remember Conley wrestling, but I've read a lot of good things about him.  I do remember Sellmer wrestling last year at state though and I was very impressed...Is Sellmer a senior?  Has anybody picked him up yet?

    IU has picked the Sr.

Did they? I was to busy admiring the 10 robes lined up for the finals... anyway it is castles 50th year and the boys wanted to wear them to commemorate the 50! I loved them,

Todd Lockyear... a fierce defender of the robes!

    They were a great touch!

    Annakin out.

  12. Castle’s 120 Hunt, rumor has it, was not disciplined during the 5+ snow days in a row and was over weight last Friday after practice  to the point of no return for the SIAC. Seeing him active this week tells me he is ready to make 122 come Saturday.

Brett Smith wasn't too old. He moved from California and due to illness starred his sophomore year and then was out of school the rest of the year. He came back and had to repeat his sophomore year, but his clock of eligibility had already starred. You have only 4 years once you start high school. The IHSAA only granted him the 1st part of his senior year, so was not eligible after Christmas, although age wise he is still 19.

Thanks for the clarification.  Here is just that so good to get it from a reliable source.  He's a fun wrestler to watch.

  14. 14 hours ago, SWINfan said:

How is that possible?  Could he have been eligible all year, but not for sectionals?  Or was this just found out and he was not eligible and still wrestled?

I "heard" that's exactly what happened.  He turned too old of an age prior to the State series start (aka Sectionals) so he's ineligible.
