  1. Exactly. We want to wrestle, but with these rules in place we can't. And practice is so much more beneficial then a local meet. Doesn't ISWA want the best kids represented in a state tournament?
  2. Grecoref, I get there is tons of 'national tournaments' most are just local tournaments that let surrounding states enter them. I am referring directly about ISWA's Nationsl tournament USA Nationals. I am also referring to ISWA national dual teams that they run for middle school and elementary. My main complaint was that anyone of these events should have appeased a 1 tournament exemption. Nick- Going to these events and doing well opens up the eyes to everyone that is there. I am not stating that top colleges coaches are there, but everyone who is there is starting to take notice of Indiana. Also I have seen brands brothers at Celtic elite in tournament in IL and at USA nationals. Either way my only point was why are kids that are wrestling every weekend getting hurt by this rule. Also we can't wait for Fargo, it's a shame we can't compete in the schoolboy duals.
  3. -nick No one cares about NUWAY national championship not just colleges. But you are out of your mind if you don't think coaches aren't taking notice at events like USA Nationals and Ohio TOC. As well as when Indiana was an OT match away from competing for a National title at the heartland duals. Why does ISWA sponsor these events if they are taking away from freestyle? Also we attempted to get our 2 qualifiers in just so he could compete on schoolboy national team, but Penn moved their tournament. We are done competing on ISWA national teams until they start supporting their own wrestlers.
  4. If ISWA really listens to the people then the solution is easy, get rid of the qualifications. Problem solved. Obviously wait until next year, but seriously get rid of the qualifications. #centralregionals
  5. Nick, Why do you think that a kid has to participate in a freestyle tournament to be good at freestyle? Just bc my kid didn't wrestle in a freestyle tournament doesn't mean he doesn't train freestyle. Just bc the tournaments he wrestled in on the weekends during 'freestyle season' were folkstyle has no baring on wether or not my kid can compete at a very high level in freestyle. Wrestling the 25 matches against 15 different states the last few weekends definitely was better for him then 4-6 matches he would have got locally. And yes winning USA nationals and Ohio TOC is good for the state of Indiana. RWA does their part in training kids in the international styles, so don't worry come Fargo time.
  6. Everyone was upset in another topic about how we didn't put the best possible team together for the NWCA and how that looks bad because we are the host state. Well what about the schoolboy duals, which Indiana is also hosting. Just wait and see how many of our best kids won't be on that team because they can't wrestle in their own state tournament. Unless ISWA does a tryout or hand picks their team there is going to be a lot of top kids missing from the lineup. It is a shame because my kid loves freestyle. #boycottstate
  7. Side note PA Gold only beat Minnesota Storm 33-30 and after looking at match ups I have us beating PA Gold 36-35. There was a lot of great young talent on this team whom I am sure will get it done next year. 2 MVP's for gold team: Jesse Mendez(6 pins and a major) Nate Lommock(5 pins, a FF, and a major) MVP for blue team: Seth Willems(4 pins and 3 Dec)
  8. Can you upload the photos of both teams on here so everyone can see what a great job you did with the gear Jason? Also thank you to all the coaches that donated their time to coach our boys.
  9. Mendez is in 6th grade, his wrestling partner Colten Drousias is an 8th grader and is going to do some great things next year if he stays in Indiana. Hanover screwed up there. They didn't just lose the Drousias family, they also lost the Mendez and Roberson families wrestling for them.
  10. 11. RWA also won Schoolboy division with 5 kids. Jesse Mendez-84- Champ Stephen Roberson Jr-84-6th Colton Drousias-91-2nd Noah Mis-91-3rd Raymond Ellis-144-2nd Region little guys also had 2 other scorers: Rowan Treasurer-Bantam-75-Champ Devin Roberson-Bantam-65-4th #nohashtags
  12. April 1-3 is USA Nationals which is ISWA's national tournament. MYWAY promotes NUWAY, which is why they are doing this. They would never screw over their national wrestlers for wrestling in NUWAY or the NUWAY teams they put together. So don't try to cast ISWA in a good light.
  13. If Crown Point accepted the bid does that mean they also made a decision on their head coach?
  14. I just got off the phone with Louis Rosbottom and he denied my request for 1 tournament exemption. My argument was that we set our schedule when they set their schedule on their site. We set aside this weekend and next, but then Penn moved there tournament just a week ago. By this time we already made other commitments and also passed on wrestling on Bailey's national dual team march 26th. I asked for an exemption for the 2 weekends that we are wrestling for ISWA's teams(middle school nationals and heartland duals). I asked him why they are punishing a wrestler that worked his butt off to make both these teams as a 6th grader. He said there will not be any waivers. I also offered to pay host tournaments entry fee and he stated that it is not about money, but about wrestling opportunity it gives all the athletes. Well then they should make sure there is a tournament offered every weekend. I just cancelled our hotel for Columbia City this weekend because if we can't get 2 in then why go to any of them. Sucks it has to be this way. I was bringing a few kids with me that were in the same boat, oh well. We could careless about wrestling in the state tournament and going for a triple crown, it is really about not getting to wrestle in the schoolboy duals. They can keep this dumbass rule if they want, but they need to host tryouts for schoolboy duals to insure that the best kids are represented on that team.
  15. State after regionals would be great and it could count as a qualifier. Might help the attendance, which I noticed was awful when it was in indy. I think a tryout for schoolboy duals is the best idea anyone has stated so far. It is the only way to insure that Indiana gets the best kids at that event.
  16. Since there is a 2 tournament requirement shouldn't ISWA also require that atleast 1 tournament is available every weekend during this time? We had the first 2 weekends set aside for the qualifiers, but now the 2nd weekend doesn't offer us a tournament. When we decided to do Columbia City and Penn I then made a commitment to Indiana Outlaws to wrestle with them in the Viper Pit duals, which I will not break a commitment we already made. Bailey has given my family a lot of wrestling opportunities and we won't leave them high and dry. Plus my kid is really excited to wrestle on the same team as Hughes, BAM, Cummings, Parris, and Rypel(just a few I heard are wrestling on the team). I would be happy to donate money to Hanover or Penn if that would count. It is not about believing my kid is too good for local FS tournaments, it is whether or not the 6-10 matches against the nations best is better then the FS matches we will get.
  17. How long do they have to respond? Because Crown Point doesn't have a head coach yet. Maybe the new coach will have his team wrestling during Christmas break. I am surprised there hasn't been a huge discussion on who the potential CP coach will be.
  18. This is a perfect solution. We aren't asking for a waiver or exemption bc we are doing something other then wrestling. As I said before we were prepared to skip FloNationals to wrestle at Penn's freestyle tournament, but now there is not a freestyle tournament offered anywhere in Indiana that weekend. Penn moving their tournament to april 30th is going to hurt their attendance bc all the region kids that would have wrestled in it will be going to Hanover's freestyle tournament. GrecoCoach stated that me bringing this up is getting old, but I don't think I am doing enough. My son has worked his butt off to make these ISWA dual teams as well as prepare himself for USA Nationals and Ohio TOC. My kid loves to wrestle and because he wrestles every weekend he will not be able to compete at freestyle state, it just doesn't make sense. He doesn't play baseball or football he wrestles and these next few weeks are some of the best wrestling weekends in the nation and I will not sacrifice him getting these amazing opportunities just to qualify for state. I feel bad for him because now he won't be able to represent Indiana in the schoolboy duals, but I don't see any other way to get the qualifiers in. So please ISWA board members look into helping the kids that are wrestling every weekend get an exemption into your state tournament.
  19. Easy solution would be to grant a waiver to any kid who wrestles in at least 2 out of these 3 events. (USA Nationals, Middle School National Duals, or Heartland Elementary Duals). Both of these dual teams are ran by ISWA and the other tournament is their National tournament.
  20. Well I am back on the boycott freestyle state bandwagon after just wasting $40 on the Iron Eagle Columbia City tournament.I went to sign up for Penn's freestyle tournament on March 26th, but could not because they moved it to April 30th.FYI there are no other freestyle tournaments offered on the weekend of March 26th in Indiana. So we are giving 7 weekends to wrestle in 2 freestyle tournaments, but only 6 weekends offer tournaments. Now throw in 3 very expensive tournaments that are all supported by ISWA(National middle school duals, Heartland Duals, and USA Nationals) and you are down to 3 weekends.Out of those weekends one is Ohio TOC which is probably a better tournament then USA Nationals and Viper Pit Dual(Indiana is the defending champion). That leaves us with 1 weekend(Iron eagle), which I will just skip instead of paying for 2 nights of hotels and food. Thanks again ISWA.

  22. Both teams look very impressive. I am excited to see if they can best the 2013 team's finish. Thank you to all the people that helped put this together so Indiana can have a competitive national team.
  23. On the eve of the Heartland Dual tryouts I would like to talk about the 2013 team that Indiana sent there. I hope by doing this those that are on the fence about trying out decide to come. The competition is amazing and competing on this team correlates to success in the future. 2013 3rd place team 50-Tyson Lane (moved to Florida, several ISWA state titles) 55-Nicolas Castelluccio (ISWA state champ) 60-Jesse Mendez (middle school state champ) 65-Raymond Rioux (several ISWA titles, freshman next year) 70-Trey Lane (106lb Florida state champ as a freshman) 75-Asa Garcia (106lb state champ as a freshman) 80-Jake Schoenegge (semi state qualifier at 113 losing in ticket round to eventual state placer) 85-Johnny Parker (several time ISWA state champ) 90-Peyton Pruett (113lb semi state qualifier) 95-Nathan Conley (132lb state qualifier) 100-Tucker Coffman (145 semi state qualifier) 105-Carson Brewer (Middle school state champ, injured freshman year of high school) 112-Brooks Wathen (138 state qualifier) 120-Eli Pokorney (170lb semi state qualifier) 130-Alex Hirschfield (152lb regional qualifier in Illinois which is their version of our semi state) 140-Andrew Irick (middle school state champ) 160-Franklin Hammond (11-3 his freshman year) This team beat Illinois gold for 3rd place, only losing one dual to Ohio grapplers. So lets make sure we get the best kids our state has to offer at the tryouts tomorrow. Go to www.iswa.com for more info.
  24. I respect your thoughts and believe I understand what you are trying to say: you don't like being made to do something it sounds like is the bottom line. But what you are also proposing is to go wrestle folkstyle tournaments nationally, and then your FIRST freestyle tournament is the Schoolboy Duals against national competition - and expect perform at your maximum level? I don't believe that is the best formula for national success again the BEST. Could your wrestler go undefeated at Schoolboys? Absolutely. But to expect that same success using your proposed formula against the top Cadets and Juniors is false. Still, like you said, it is absolutely your decision and that's fair. But when said wrestler maxes out that potential and is having trouble against the best Cadet and Juniors in the country, when it REALLY counts, understand this is when their lack of training in the international styles shows it's face. Coach Hull, you make a lot of good points but I still fail to understand how the local tournaments are going to improve my wrestler. We train freestyle 3 to 4 days a week after folkstyle state, so we aren't going into state and schoolboy duals just winging it. I also understand that by forcing wrestlers to do these tournaments there may be a few competitive matches at the local tournaments, but we would be crossing our fingers for that to happen opposed to knowing for sure that we will get good matches at FloNationals or the other national duals. Only thing I am asking is for certain events to count toward the 2 tournament rule.(Heartland duals, middle school duals, and USA Nationals) Thanks for your reply and insight on the whole situation. I am not as upset about the whole situation after reading your posts.
  25. We train freestyle we just don't want to be forced to wrestle in local freestyle tournaments, how is that hard to understand? I promise you that 3 matches in these local tournaments will be less then 2 minutes. RWA trains freestyle and it is more then enough training to compete and win a USA national freestyle title. Indiana state is also not required to compete in the central regional, which is the only requirement to wrestle in the national tournament. So again I say feel free to skip state. We won't bc we want to wrestle in schoolboy duals, but if teams were hand picked we would definitely just skip this. I hate being forced to do something. Don't underestimate the talent in Indiana. If we want to compete in bigger events opposed to local freestyle tournaments I feel like it should be our decision to do so.
