  1. Just a few 'newer' places to the downtown area (all within walking distance to The Bank) that may not have been open during last year's state finals:

Giordano's (already mentioned): Chicago style pizza on the corner of Illinois & Market

Brother's Bar & Grill: typical American fare, a large tap selection, and kid friendly during the day located on South Meridian.

Primanti Bros: Pittsburgh sandwich chain that puts the coleslaw and fries on the sandwich located on the corner of Illinois & Maryland.  Pro-tip: get the 'slaw on the side (may be a bit overwhelming otherwise).

Wild Eggs: solid breakfast eats with a contemporary feel, at the mouth of Mass Ave on Delaware.

  2. Lewdwar, thank you for your interest in our event, I am an assistant coach at CIA.  We would love to have Perry send 50 guys.

In order for anyone to wrestle all they have to do is:

    1. Fill out the google form (https://docs.google....=mail_form_link)
    2. Pay the $10 entry fee on Wednesday

Please feel free to reply to this thread with any questions.

*For the sake of clarity, we will not be accepting any walk-ins on Wednesday*

  3. OTT freestyle "this guy gives us reason to hope" Post-Mortem:

    65:

Who I thought inspired hope if he'd won: Stieber, Pico, or Green, for various reasons (in retrospect, Retherford also)

Where is the hope meter now?: About as low as it would have been had Metcalf won again--probably even lower in my view.  Molinaro absolutely deserves the spot, but he has the same deficiency as Metcalf--lack of world-class offense--without as much world-class experience to utilize his top-notch defense as fully as Metcalf could.  With the depth of freakish studs at this weight worldwide, I think Molinaro can qualify the weight, but I'll be even more shocked by him than I was this past weekend if he comes back with a medal.  We needed offense and athleticism at this weight to have a puncher's chance and we didn't get it, unfortunately.

Cael knows wrestling.  Don't count out the Gorilla Hulk yet.  Look for him to make improvements between now and Mongolia and from Mongolia to Rio.  I think he has a chance to snag a bronze medal for us in Rio.  If anyone understands how to get the absolute most out of an athlete it is Cael.

  4. It's a proven fact that our kids wrestle too much and don't practice enough.  Ask any other country in the world and they will tell you we do the exact opposite of what they do.  We do not get the results other countries do...hmmm.

I've always agreed with that logic.  If you look at collegiate programs their ratio of hours spent training versus competing is much larger than our youth's.  I was just wondering if there was any data or scientific articles you have run across that cover this topic?  Just asking for my own interest, I'm not trying to combat your statement.

  5. I'm an economist.  There's extensive research into the fact that being taller as a man and more beautiful as a woman correlates to career advancement.  I'm absolutely sure decision-makers generally don't hire or fire based solely on physical appearance, but the data have a long history and are inarguable: physical appearance affects hiring decisions on a subconscious level.

I have no desire to get into the headgear/no-headgear discussion.  That's up to coaches, individuals, and families.   But if we're just dealing in facts, it's short-sighted to think that having deformed ears won't affect someone's first impression of you and potentially have a tiny subtle effect in people's minds when they're deciding between you and 5 other qualified people.

Fair point, that sounds more like psychology than economics though.

  6. So did Gilman get in any kind of trouble after that slam? He should have... Both guys acted like jerks, but that was bad...

Actually no, the way they called it was Waters was called for the "slam" from the top position with legs in.  Then Gilman was called for unsportsmanlike conduct for trying to double leg Waters well after the whistle. There is a quick clip of it on Flo and I can honestly say that was the only time in which I have seen that situation called as a slam on the top guy. Interesting decision by the stripes on that one.
