  1. As I said in another thread, one of these 2 guys' season ending prior to the State Finals because of no wrestlebacks is flat out criminal. A top 3 wrestler in his weight class not making the State Finals - insane.
  2. This is a crying shame. Same as 120 Haines vs Henderson How do you get the #3 vs #4 and the #2 vs #3 wrestlers in the State at their respective weight class facing each other in the blood round at SS? You have 2 of the top 5 guys in the state at the same regional - that's how. Two of these guys having to end their season prior to the State Finals because of no wrestlebacks is flat out criminal.
  3. How about some love for Sergio? His victory Friday night over Woods was impressive. I know he wrestled most of HS career in IIlinois but he is a hoosier born & raised, is he not?
  4. House of Como is the best steakhouse in Evansville. It looks like a dump but you won't be disappointed. A little pricey but worth it. A fixture in Evansville for over 50 years. Smitty's Italian Steakhouse on Franklin is another good option. Cork-n-Clever on the eastside is very good as well.
  5. So if what Y2 posted is accurate, then the Jay County-2 got matched against the Carrol-1 at 182/175 9 of the last 11 years. A little surprising but it only happened once in 8 years immediately prior to that. So it happened 10 of the last 19 years or 52.6% of the time over that span. When theoretically it should happen 33.3% of the time. A little lopsided but not extremely so when looking at the last 19 years.
  6. That is surprising but not completely improbable given it is a 1 in 3 chance of happening each year.
  7. I stand corrected. Nice catch.
  8. Now I only concentrated on the potential Ticket Round matches & only if both wrestlers are ranked in the top 10 in the State. There are plenty of other bad draws, but to me these are the ones that standout. Fort Wayne Ticket Round 113 #4(#2) Jalen Sawyer-May (Kokomo) vs. #7(#3) Levi Johns (Bluffton) East Chicago Ticket Round 132 #6(#2) Guillermo Rivera (Lake Central) vs. #8(#3) Sonny Sessa (Crown Point) 150 #9(#3) Kaptur Nowaczyk (Crown Point) vs. #7(#2) Caydn Smith (Plymouth) 215 #1(#1) Will Clark (Crown Point) vs. #7(#5) Kameron Kauffman (Warsaw) 285 #2(#2) Brady Beck (Rochester) vs. #6(#5) Collin Foy (Hanover Central) New Castle Ticket Round 138 #6(#2) Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle) vs. #7(#3) Peyton Hornsby (New Palestine) 150 #8(#3) Braden Getz (Roncalli) vs. #4(#1) Jacob Weaver (Rossville) 190 #10(#4) Clay Guenin (Greenfield-Central) vs. #3(#1) Luke Penola (Zionsville) 215 #8(#3) Jackson Weingart (Cathedral) vs. #10(#5) Shaun Glass (New Palestine) Evansville Ticket Round 106 #6(#3) Royce Malone (Monrovia) vs. #4(#2) Brady Byrd (Washington) 120 #3(#1) Ty Henderson (EV. Mater Dei) vs. #4(#2) Preston Haines (Brownsburg) 120 #9(#5) Walter Hagedorn (Tell City) vs. #7(#4) Isaac Ash (Monrovia) 126 #1(#1) Isaiah Schaefer (EV. Mater Dei) vs. #6(#4) Dominic Brown (Center Grove) 150 #2(#2) Hunter May (Floyd Central) vs. #3(#3) Tommy Gibbs (Brownsburg) 190 #8(#4) Jett Goldsberry (Heritage Hills) vs. #2(#2) Kaden McConnell (Center Grove) Given 16 wrestlers per weight get to go to the State finals, anyone ranked in the Top 10 who gets eliminated by another Top 10 wrestler in the Ticket Round at SS without the chance of wrestle-backs is a complete injustice. JMO!
  9. Yes, Jay County-2 drew Carrol-1 at 4 weights. But Jay County-2 drew Peru-1 & Goshen-1 at 5 weights each. So it was pretty well distributed. Now I don't know how often certain weight classes draw other regionals, but there are only 3 possibilities so a certain weight drawing the same regional 2, 3 or even 4 years in a row is not going to be that uncommon.
  10. But Kilkeary put him on his back as well for what I thought was a 2 second count (but it was very close). So if the official gave Davis reaction time when Kilkeary was behind then it could have been a neutral danger TD from the back exposure. That is what I was comparing as equal. Again, IMO both should have gave one way or the other. Not two different ways. JMO though. Both were extremely close. If they had happened in a vacuum I would not complain about how they were called. Both could have gone either way. But since they happened in the same dual, by the same official just a few matches apart it was a bad look for one to go one way & the other to go a different way.
  11. Yes, but neutral danger is a TD. And as I already stated IMO either both should have been a neutral danger TD or neither should have been.
  12. I didn't realize that there are so many conspiracy theorists among HS wrestling coaches.
  13. It is hard to compare teams from different era's, but Iowa's 1997 squad scored the most team points in NCAA history with 170. They had 5 champs & 8 AA's that year. Let's see how PSU ends the season this year. Won't be easy to beat that overall team performance. FWI, I'm not sure if the scoring is still the same as it was in 1997.
  14. Loved watching Iowa take a beating with Lemley & Davison helping the cause.
  15. On another note... Wow PSU is dominate. Noone is coming close to touching them this year.
  16. Well both 125 & 141 were close calls. IMO, either both were TD's or neither were. Not sure how you wave off one & call the other a TD.
  17. OSU doesn't matchup well but I suppose noone does. IMO, Mendez is the best hope for a win. There are lots of good matchups but I think PSU takes the vast majority of them. D'Emilio is the only OSU wrestler that is ranked higher than his opponent, but Kasak has been wrestling very well lately and I don't have a lot of faith in D'Emilio. Another interesting matchup will be to see how Rocco Welsh fairs against Starocci.
  18. Feldman looked good against Davison, but I got a feeling Kerkvliet will be too much for him. Could be interesting though.
  19. Mendez vs Bartlett - hopefully! Should be fun.
  20. I suppose it depends on what your reference is. My reference is from a decade ago & further. If you simply look at the data that Y2 provided in the other topic you will see that State Qualifiers from the Evansville Schools (which predominately comprise the SIAC) have declined significantly since 2013/2014. That list BTW doesn't include MD, and because it doesn't it gives a clear indication of the decline of the rest of the conference. But I did say (in the other topic) that the inclusion of Jasper & Vincennes does help some. I am simply old enough to remember the days when Reitz, Memorial, Castle & Central were all producing State Qualifiers at a much higher rate then they have lately.
  21. This was Michigan vs OSU - it definitely means something!
  22. The problem is that the northern portion of the state is much more populated the southern portion. Plus the Indy area is by far the most populated. When you look at the 4 SS locations you will find that Evansville is the furthest from all the rest. Thus there are going to be many schools that are closer to some of the other locations. Nothing is going to be perfect in this scenario. It is odd that they choose Evansville to host the State Finals this year, but I am glad they did. But clearly I am in the minority on that.
