  1. What amazes me is how it seems to be the same schools who are regularly involved with this kind of situation and often accused of recruiting. Makes me think "where there is smoke there is fire" and seems to give these accusations some substance.
  2. You are correct however over the last 7years I have been going they usually consider anyone who goes 4-1 as a Champ/winner and thus they get awarded a T shirt. T Shirts are the only awards they give out at this event.
  3. Lynde wrestled for Delphi went 5-0 I believe. Memorial champions: Tony Vaughn (106), Codey Flickinger (113), Eric Blodgett (132), Ronnie Bogle (145), Nick Vaughn (152), Darren Vance (170), Chase Spears (220).
  4. Today I watched Firefighter Scott Davis's funeral thru a live fed provided by the Muncie Star Press. As a firefighter myself, it was very touching. But I think it is important to pass on the one of the things I learned of this dedicated public servant. It was mentioned many times that FF Scott Davis was involved with youth wrestling in the Yorktown area of Indiana. My thoughts and prayers go to this man's family, my brother Firefighters and to the Yorktown wrestling community. FF Davis, go be with your Lord and Savior, a job well done.
  5. Great story, the wrestling coach should be coach and teacher of the year. As for the young man, I wish him all the best of luck. I have always told my sons, both wrestlers, their friends and friends parents that wrestling is the best sport for a young man to participate in. Wrestling teaches self discipline, work ethics, pride and how to be a productive part of society. I can honestly say I have never met a young man who has competed in wrestling thru school that are failures. This young man will be successful because someone did not give up on him.
  6. Chicago Sports network states it will be showing the High School national Championship wrestling tournament but instead the show a high school all star basketball game. I sent them a email telling them that myself and my son were very interested in watching and now are very disappointed with them. I suggest we all send them a email telling them how being snubbed by basketball again sucks. Here is the web site were they show having high school wrestling http://www.csnchicago.com/pages/tvlisting and the email address csnchicagowebsite@comcastsportsnet.com Let them know how you feel and that wrestling needs to be respected.
  7. Wow. Times must be tough and money is tight I see
  8. As a retired service member and veteran, and father of a US Army soldier who is just finishing his tour in Iraq. I want to pass on my deepest gratitude for his service and prayers that he heals quickly.
  9. This seems to be happening more and more, recruiting and questionable transfers for all the wrong reasons, not just in this great sport but others.. I have been reading the post on this and will say that I am not sure about all the details and not sure we will ever find out all the details. The sad part, the way i see, is that no high schools are putting more pressure on the athletes and coaches to produce the big wins. I think, and I hate to say this, that the State athletic board needs to look into these and put in place some rules or controls to keep this from happening. I can remember being told once by a wise man "if you do something or involved in something that causes people to question your ethics or morals, then there probably is some truth to their suspicions"
  10. Sounds like a school with coaches and young athletes who are doing the right things in life. I applaud all those involved in giving Zach the chance to be just like them and enjoy the same things as they do. Would love to see the video.
  11. Coach Sparks You have definitely moved to a huge responsibility, in training young men who will be our future leaders. I still remember my Drill SGTs names after 23 years. As a Retired 1SG, I thank you for he good work you will be doing, and do not envy the hours and stress. As a parent of a young PFC in Iraq right now, I know you will train them to be, excuse the old Army slogan ( but is still the best), "ALL THEY CAN BE". God Speed. Your brother in arms 1SG James D Vance (ret)
  12. Really cause Owen Sharp of Memorial has won 2 matches this year and he is currently ranked 8 at 189. Not hammering on Y2CJ41 just that if a wrestler is wrestling at 112 then should be ranked at 112 not the weight they might be wrestling at the end of the season. I am really not trying to get into a argument with you, not sure why you are being so defensive NECCfan. As for who Flick has actually wrestled I could not personally put names on all of them, the young man has only lost one match so far. Again, not saying Y2CJ41 does a bad job of ranking wrestlers but there are some issues. I also believe that wrestlers should be ranked at their current weight not predicted weight. Chase Spears has been wrestling both 189/215 so he would be hard to slot at a weight, and this I understand although he has beat several wrestlers in both weight classes that are ranked, the Yorktown 215 or one, Neff I believe. Also Neccfan there have been others who have raised questions on this forum.
  13. That may be so but then they should be moved to the 112 weight. I am sure that they are both fine wrestlers, however Flickinger is also a fine wrestler. I am not knocking either wrestler but simply showing that we need a closer look at the ranking brackets becuase they are not very accurate.
  14. We need to take a look at Some of these. Flickinger from Memorial went 4-o with 4 pins including Yorktown and Prairie Heights, yet he is ranked well below both. Please look close at the Yorktown Duals some of your ranked wrestlers got beat by some not ranked.
  15. Memorial went 3 and 2 beating Southern Wells, New Haven and Leo. Lost to tow good teams in Yorktown and Prairie Heights. Good tournament. I believe finl team placing is 1 Yorktown, 2 PH, 3 Memorial and 4 New haven
  16. This is interesting along with "Like what (Does Penn have any wrestlers we can Borrow)" comment, makes a fan wonder if Mishawaka is still recruiting wrestlers. It would be nothing new for mishawaka to recruit wrestlers, need we mention Stahl.
  17. I agree the first varsity matches my sons wrestled, every match they wrestled after. Win or lose, as a proud father, nothing better then watching your son go out and give everything they have to compete in the best sport ever.
  18. Yes Memorial moved or 152 up to 160 to place our better wrestler against the Goshen coaches son. But what happened was our 152 weighed in as a 152 which allows him to wrestle up one class. Goshen's Pickard weighed in at 160 which also allows hm to move up to 171, so far so good. But the young man schedule to wrestle 171 weighing under 160 weighed in, but he did not report to weigh in as a 160 therefore he could not wrestle 160. So when memorial moved the 152 up Pickard switched wrestlers and had his 171 report at 160. If the memorial Coach would have felt like pushing the issue that switch would not have been allowed. The goal, I can assume, was to give up less then 6 at 160 and gain a pin at 171. However memorial won with a pin at 160 then the memorial JR who weighed in at 156 that night went three rounds and lost 3-0 to Pickard. so a net loss for Goshen. Had this been the other way Coach Pickard would have went nuts, stomped up and down not allowed it to happen. I had a friend of mine a wrestler from Jimtown who had never seen Caoch Pickard at a meet said he would be embarrassed by the way the Coach acted and would not ever think about letting his kids wrestle for a coach like that.
  19. My oldest son, Cody Vance, who graduated last year from Elkhart Memorial and made it to the second round of FT Wayne semi state last year at 171. He joined the US Army as a CAV Scout and is assigned to the 4/10 Cav, 4th ID. This morning he got on an airplane headed to Iraq for a year. This being said I was wondering what other fine young men who wrestled in Indiana have served this country in the Armed Forces. Be proud of these fine young men and les get their names out so we can all stand up and recognize them.
