  1. Greatly and sincerely appreciated! I'll still be training with the Arlington kids, and IPS kids for that matter, no different than before really. We're actually running a free wrestling camp for the entire IPS district, elementary through high school, on July 18th - 21st at Crispus Attucks. Tech just has more opportunities for what I am trying to accomplish both on and off the mat: the largest IPS school with around 2,400 kids, magnet programs, the largest feeder program, soon to be the largest wrestling room in state, monster facilities and campus, CENTRAL Indiana, deep history and coaching, and several professional opportunities my pregneant wife loves. Essentially it's the same scenario, just a larger platform and more kids to help. I will definitely miss the kids at Arlington, but there is a solid group there that someone can capitalize on. As I said the facilities are nice, they have a pretty tough schedule, and the Athletic Director, Larry Nicks, is extremely supportive and competitive. Hopefully I get a chance to work closely with whoever takes over. Thanks again for noticing some of our hard work and expect big things!
  2. Taking over Arsenal Tech next year...
  3. If you are looking to build a wrestling program then look no further than the Arlington Golden Knights! Arlington Community High School 4825 N. Arlington Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46226 http://www.422.ips.k12.in.us/ IPS pays well, a very nice room and facilities, there are some good kids there on the rise, open staff, tons of athletic potential, good schedule, an Athletic Director with great support and looking to button this up fast. Don't miss out a great opportunity to not only have some success in wrestling but change some kids lives for the better! For any inquiries, please feel free to contact me below. 4. Due to moratorium, we will not be having Wednesday's RTC at Arlington tonight, July 7th. Get ready for next week as we come back and get after it. Thanks. Coach Hull
  5. I agree whole heartedly that Indiana needs women wrestling. After going out to Oklahoma City for the Junior Duals and getting a chance to see the defending National Champion OKC Women's wrestling team, not only was I intrigued but i was also inspired. So much so was I insired that I am planning on creating a women's program for central Indiana next year that could compete somewhere and anywhere. I have communicated with some of those ladies at OKC, many of which would destroy some of our boys, on coming to Indiana to put on a clinic next year. I was so impressed with them and they are definietly advocates. They also asked me when I thhough Indiana would/could sanction women's wrestling and I didnt have any answers for them. Any ideas?
  6. I will be coaching tonight's practice at Arlington's RTC. We have a few new coaches/clinicians coming in over the next few weeks which should be exciting. Especially in regards to getting ready for Fargo or Schoolboys, I would urge all wrestlers to participate, either at Arlington or wherever, so we can have a good showing this summer and prepare for next year. Thanks Haysky!!!
  7. Congratulations to Team Indiana for wrestling tough down in Oklahoma City at the Junior Duals. Not sure what the team record was but I know Mappes, Malloy, Stein, Wilson and a few others did relatively well. Thanks to the Junior coaches for doing a great job as well. No disrespect to Disney Duals of course, as it's good to see Indiana teams doing well, and a special congrats goes to Perry Meridian for winning the title. Still, I can't believe there are 8 pages of Disney and no topics on the Junior Duals? Must be Indiana's focus on Folkstyle I guess. With that said, it would be nice to see Team Indiana bring home a National Championship in Freestyle and Greco, but that's just me. I bet that if some of the same Indiana kids/teams that went to Disney participated in the National Duals, Indiana just may have walked away with the title. Still, congrats to Indiana on all levels!!!
  8. Last night we were privelaged to have Coach Steven Bradley, one of Indiana's finest. This former 3x IHSAA State Champion, Indiana Hall of Famer and assistant coach at Lincoln College in Illinois, drove 3 hours to hit this practice and left to drive 3 hours back - all to help better Indiana wrestling. The turnout was relatively good, seeing as how most kids are in Florida or at a camp somewhere. The wrestlers that did show up received excellent technique as Coach Bradley went over an extensive series all from the snap, which included a few shot fakes, re-shots and even a series leading to the turk. We had several college wrestlers working out, some from as afar away as Batesville and Whiteland, and many others. Coach Bradley is highly regarded in the wrestling world and I consider him a great friend. Thanks Coach Bradley for coming out and suppoting Indiana in this fashion and the guys on Team Indiana headed to Fargo will be hard pressed to find someone as dedicated and skillful as him!!
  9. Come check out this 3x IHSAA State Champion, current Assistant Coach @ Lincoln College tonight at 6 p.m. If you are gearing up for Fargo, looking to get better this summer, or simply just want to gert on the mat!!!!
  10. Arlington will be going ALL SUMMER! Every Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tomorrow I will be running practice and we should have decent numbers. We have guys preparing for this weekend so our emphasis will be on Freestyle, Greco, and some conditioning. It's the summer time and very few are training this time of year, but we are open for the one's who want to truly get better. Some are preparing for Cadet/Junior Duals, some for Fargo, Greco, Freestyle, Folkstyle, or simply because they feel the bug. Either way, we will be open ALL SUMMER! If you are debating on where to go, or if you should come, be sure to come out at least next Wednesday as we are honored to have Indiana's own Steve Bradley. As many of you may recall, Bradley was and still is a monster: 3x IHSAA State Champion, a host of other wrestling accolades, and current Assistant Coach at Lincoln College in Illinois. An overall great wrestler, coach, and friend. We look forward to seeing you there!! Coach Nick Hull 317.474.3921 Arlington Community High School 4825 N. 12. Tonight's RTC will feature Coach Mike Morgan, former LC Bear, C-Red trained, and William Penn stud who is an integral part of the growth and development of inner-city wrestling. He will be going on over a great front head lock series tonight, whcih will be filled primarily with LIVE wrestling. If you are looking for a place to bang this Wednesday evening, look no further than tonight's RTC at Arlington! There will be a handful of guys working out in preparation for the Cadet/Junior Duals and Fargo, so be sure to get your mat time in!!! See you there!!!! 6pm - 8 pm, door 16...
  13. We will be having this RTC up until July 27th, the last Wednesday before August, with the exception of moratorium which will cancel the July 13th practice. We still have some great clinicians on tap but I just have not posted them yet: Cashe, Dubuque, Eppert, Degain, etc. The idea is to have a place every week where you KNOW there is going to be some wrestling. Hopefully Central Indiana will take advantage of the room over the summer as I know there are some seriously dedicated kids that will be getting better as a result of coming out.
  14. Check us out this Wednesday as Gill Journey comes out this week to be the clinican for our Wednesday RTC. Coach Journey, himself a 2x IHSAA Runner-Up, 3x State Plaver and 2x NCAA Qualifier, has a had a wide variety of success and is currently training for the World Police and Fire Games in New York this August. Be sure to come out and get your mat time in if you still have that wrestling bug. It is understandable that around this time is when kids begin falling off and digging their heels in to other summer activities. On the other hand, for those of you that are looking for a facility to keep it moving, look no further than Arlington's RTC on Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Remember, summer training makes winter champions! See you there!!!!
  15. First off, I want to say that I thought Franklin did an awesome job of hosting this tournament! I'm not a professional Tournament Director but I thought everything ran smoothly. There definitely were some studs there. A few Indiana standouts I happened to notice were Steve Micic, Tommy Cash, Isaiah Bradley, Sean Mappes, Connor LeFever, Austin McClosky and several others. This isn't even including the Indiana intermediates, novices, and schoolboys/girls that came out and gave people the business. All in all, it was a pretty good three days, especially being able to check out the World Team Trials and getting a chance to see some buddies that came in from out of state I haven't seen in a while. Nevertheless, Jordin Humphrey and I were discussing this issue and I wanted to get more insight from some of Indiana wrestling's other great minds on Indiana's representation, or lack of, this past weekend at the USA Wrestling Central Regionals. Don't get me wrong, a congratulations is deserved again for the Indiana wrestlers who did come out and compete. In regards to numbers, there were only 2 or 3 states that had more wrestlers competing at the event with Ohio and Illinois in full effect. But I am not neccessarily talking numbers and 3rd or 4th is still disappointing to me when this prestigeous event was in our own back yard. Now I'm just getting back into the mix here in Indiana, so forgive me for my disappointment and ignorance. But I remember the days when Team Indiana used to not only be at these Regional Tournaments, but would even travel, with stacked teams I might add, everywhere from Louisiana to Tennessee ("stacked teams" in the sense that they were loaded with state champs, runner-ups, etc.). These trips were full of some of Indiana's best and the time I spent with those wrestlers and coaches undoubtedly added to my success on the mat, in life, and developed a HUGE sense of Indiana pride that I have carried across the country ever since. But what has happened between then and now? I've heard various reasons such as the location, the high cost of summer tournaments, the new influx of national duals and tournaments, an extended folkstyle season, etc. But what really gives? Could someone please help me not only better understand but 1) fill me in on some solutions or 2) let me know your take on if Indiana even wants a solution? Best wishes this summer and throughout the year! Thanks!
  16. Don't forget: Wednesday RTC with Cadet Dual Team Coach, Warren Central Head Coach, and 2x IHSAA State Champion Danny Williams tonight @ Arlington. 6 p.m. Looks like it's going to be a great turn out tonight so come get ready for Central Regionals, National Duals, Fargo, or just bang to get ready for next year! Last night at Perry was great with Ben Wissell, 2x Purdue All-American, so keep up with the spirit of training!!!! See you tonight!!! Door 16
  17. This week, Wednesday, May 18th, we are fortunate enough to have Danny Williams, former 2x IHSAA State Champion and current Head Wrestling Coach for Warren Central coming through to show us some of his stuff! Coach Williams is also the Team Leader for the Cadet National Dual Team this year so for those looking to compete at the Cadet Duals in Daytona Beach, FL, be sure to come check him out and make your presence known. Rain or shine, this Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30/8 p.m. @ Arlington, door 16!!! See you there!!!!!
  18. Unfortunately, Alexander Warren had to reschedule for later so we are fortunate enough to bring Wes Gibson, Assistant Coach at Perry MEridian to host tonight's RTC. It is always a pleasure to sit back and watch Coach Gibson interact with the kids and clearly has learned a lot working with Coach Tonte out there. If you are on the South side, definitely head to Roncalli's practice because you will NEVER go wrong with Coach Ellis and Coach Miller. On the other hand, if you are up North and do not want to travel, practice starts at 6 p.m. @ Arlington!!!! Let's get ready for a great showing this weekend at ISWA Freestyle State!!!!
  19. Sounds cool. I've helped develop a variety of media, both print and digital, and in today's age print is largely dying with the advancement of technology. Print is definitely convenient when sitting in the bathroom but with the costs associated with it, digital clearly should be the way to go if you are concerned about the bottom line. That was one of the biggest issues with the Indiana Wrestling Digest. It was a great publication but they lost thousands upon thousands of dollars printing it because many people that said they would buy it never did, whereas going viral would have made it much easier to distribute, easier to collect content, etc. Again, this is a great idea and I would love to help in any way that I could but, in my opinon, going digital is clearly the prudent thing to do both short and long term.
  20. Indianamat: Another great RTC is lined up this Wednesday, April 27th at Arlington @ 6 p.m. featuring the one and only LANCE ELLIS!!! As Indiana's first 4x IHSAA State Champion and natural born stud, this current Head Coach at Roncalli will be sharing his wrestling expertise and philosophy with us on one of his most critical strengths: Throws!!!! I am personally excited as he is a legend in his own right and one of my favorite aspects of wrestling, especially in Greco, is launching someone. If you like the big throws or simply want to get better at them, you do not want to miss this!!!!! Arlington Community High School 4825 N. Arlington Avenue Indianapolis, IN 46226 Door 16 For any questions, please feel free to contact me at 317.474.3921 or through email at hullw@ips.k12.in.us!!! See you tomorrow evening!!!
  21. Great night again as Gary "Iron Bear" Myers came out and showed us some great Greco moves and concepts. His experience and knowledge was well appreciated along with the other coaches in attendence from across the region. Thanks as usual to Manual, Lawrence Central, Tech, Warren Central, Lawrence North, Fishers and the rest of the schools and clubs with wrestlers in attendence. Be sure to come out next Wednesday as Lance Ellis, Indiana's first 4x State Champion and current Head Coach of Roncalli, comes out and runs a clinic focused on something he was best known for: THROWS! Not as much as I would like to. USA Wrestling is highly suggested, but not mandatory, and with the dwindling numbers Arlington has we try and share athletes as much as possible between other sports. We only have a core group now of 5-8 and it is even difficult getting to other open rooms as well. Jireh practice is on Tuesdays from 5:30 - 7:00 pm, and that time may be subject to change. They have been a big help with a cool facility, positive atmophere, great people and MAJOR supporters of wrestling in the inner-city. In regards to getting more IPS kids to Jireh, I think that as the success of IPS wrestling continues to increase, so shall the numbers. I would imagine Jireh's numbers are up almost twice as much from last year and I wouldn't be surprised if it doubles again next year. On that note, good luck again to the three wrestlers representing Indiana and Jireh Sports in Greco Roman at the 2011 Asics Cadet Greco Nationals in Akron, OH: Deondre Wilson, Robert Duncan, and Greg Johnson! These guys are becoming more dedicated, have found a little success and are about to get some great experience that is sure to go a long way!
  22. Wilson, Deondre 46 KG / 101.25 lbs Duncan, Robert 58 KG / 127.75 lbs Johnson, Greg 69 KG / 152 lbs ...the only Indiana Cadets wrestling Greco. There are a few other Indiana boys in University like Eppert, Brooks, etc. Best wishes Indiana!
  23. Tonight's RTC with Coach Red was phenominal! I am definitely sold on being C-Red trained and C.J. probably knows more technique than I do. As usual, Red had the kids working out non-stop and learning great technique sure to make a difference. To end the practice he had asics water bottles and wrestling posters for everyone. At around 53 kids, I'm certain they left with new knowledge as he definitely made an impression on our group. Thanks to Red Cobra Wrestling, Lawrence Central, Northwest, Fishers, Tech, Warren Central, Manual, etc., and as always the parents for bringing your boys out for a great practice. We definitely had some past, present and future studs in the room tonight! Be sure to come out next Wednesday, April 20th, for a Greco-Roman Clinic with Gary "Iron Bear" Myers, a 4x Olympic alternate, All-Army Wrestler and overall great individual! You don't want to miss it!
  24. We had a great turnout at tonight's RTC featuring Coach Tonte and Chris "Lights Out" Lyte! Coach Tonte is always tough and Coach Lytle signed personalized autographs until the last kid. They ran a fun, energetic, up-tempo practice with around 70 kids, a few state champs, runner-ups, state qualifiers, etc. banging and learning solid technique from two of the best! Thank you both as you are true supporters Indiana Wrestling! Also, much thanks to Perry Wrestling, Lawrence Central, Fishers, Tech, Warren Central, Manual, Lawrence North, Howe, and the dozens of other schools and clubs for the support that came out to Arlington for a great event! Be sure to catch us next week as we are featuring Coach Chad Red and Red Cobra Wrestling!
  25. Great night IMO at Perry's RTC!!! As usual Perry's room was phenominal with tough kids from the smallest to the biggest. Thanks to Coach Tonte for opening up the room to us and definitely thanks to the guys who came out and banged when they could of been elsewhere. Hope to see some faces tomorrow at Arlington's RTC with Coach Tonte and Chris "Lights Out" Lytle!!!
