base
Who do you think will win the IHSAA State team point championship this year? A brief explanation of how Team scoring works at state First, here is a wrestler's score from last year's tournament: Name / Advancement + Activity + Placement = Total ------------------------------------------------- Chad Red 6.0 + 5.5 + 16.0 = 27.5 Individual points scored are divided into 3 categories - Advancement, Activity and Placement. All of the individuals from a team are totaled for team points Advancement This one is pretty simple. Wrestlers score 2 points each time they advance in the championship bracket (ignore their final match). They score 1 point each time they advance in the consolation bracket. This is how it works out Place Points 1st/2nd 6.0 3rd/4th 4.0 5th/6th 3.0 7th/8th 2.0 Activity Wrestlers can rack up bonus team points through falls, technical falls, and major decisions 2.0 Fall 1.5 Technical Fall 1.0 Major Decision 0.0 Decision Placement Points are awarded based on the final placement of each individual wrestler 1st - 16 5th - 5 2nd - 12 6th - 3 3rd - 9 7th - 2 4th - 7 8th - 1 Total Other than Activity Points, the place winners thereby score an equal number of Advancement + Placement points 1st Place = 22 + Activity 2nd Place = 18 + Activity 3rd Place = 13 + Activity 4th Place = 11 + Activity 5th Place = 8 + Activity 6th Place = 6 + Activity 7th Place = 4 + Activity 8th Place = 3 + Activity 2016 Top Teams Warren Central 109.5 Brownsburg 83.0 Cathedral 81.0 Portage 71.0 Merrillville 67.0 Ev Mater Dei 56.5 2016 Top Individuals Mason Parris 29.0 Jacob Covaciu 28.0 Shawn Streck 28.0 Blake Rypel 28.0 Joe Lee 27.5 Chad Red 27.5 Observations A state placewinner (anyone who makes it past Friday night) will always wrestle 4 matches. For a team to win the points championship, they will really need to have multiple state placers. Lowell had 2 state champions in 2016 (Hughes/Cummings) but finished 7th with 52.5 team points Warren last year had amazing depth - 1 champion, 3 second, 2 fifth and 2 seventh placers. Tonte with 22 points scored nearly as much as champion Pruitt with 24. Those bonus points for pins really pay off Edited February 14, 2017 by base
MD92
Wouldn't 7th place get 4 + activity? 2 for winning the opening round match, then 2 for placing 7th? Wouldn't 8th get 3 + activity? 2 for winning the opening match, then 1 for placing 8th?
