Boston Univ drops wrestling

How about this one to add a little insult to the whole deal

Former coach leaves enough money to fund an endowment for the program and a year after his passing they decide to end it. Guess he would have made some adjustment if he would have known this before his passed away.

Wasnt Boston a fully funded program?

From what I have read they have an endowment to cover the basic yearly cost of running the program.  However, the AD says they need greatly updated facilities, a larger staff, and other items to become competitive again and that is something they feel is not worth spending the type of money needed to develop.  i.e. that funding could be better served going to further pamper their only one true top level team Men's Hockey team, revive anther program they have like basketball which has got a lot of money put into it lately, and/or bringing in one of their many club sport to be their next DI program.

They already dropped their perennial losing season football program a few years back so its not just about keeping the main stream NCAA sports alive, though their are rumors they may bring it back.  They currently have 9  mens sports (soon to be 8 ) and 12 womens sports so its likely not a Title IX issue.  And their wrestling associated athletic conference has plenty of nearby teams, so it doesn't seem to be lack of conference competition.  It seems more than likely its just a matter of the Athletic Department wanting to place all their eggs in a few baskets in order to foster success, rather than having too many additional sports programs that are not bringing in much additional money/funding or wins.
