It's important to remember that the classed rankings are based on perceived dual meet strength ... in other words, how would a team do in dual meets against other teams in its class?

The Top 20 poll, meanwhile, is based on individual strength. Basically, how many super studs does a team have? How many guys will get onto the podium at the state finals, and how far up? That's what is going to determine the "team" state champion this year.

It's entirely possible for a team to be very strong from top to bottom, and be great in dual meets, but not necessarily have any undefeated wrestlers or guys who have a chance to wrestle under the lights. And vice versa.

In theory, a team could have three or four fantastic wrestlers and win the state "team" title, but never win a dual meet. In theory, that's possible.

So, remember:

Classed rankings = Dual meet strength

Top 20 rankings = Great individual wrestlers
