  1. Thanks to Coach McCormick for hosting this and thanks to all the coaches for getting these kids some great mat time today.
  2. It's only Tuesday, in the years that my son wrestled we found out that registration for tournaments usually runs a little slow at first and then picks up right before the deadline. Check back closer to the deadline and I think you will find people showing more interest. There is also the chance of being bumped up a weight class if no one else is there, but my son always chose mat time over not wrestling. Welcome and good luck.
  3. Check out this link to find colleges to look at, then find their web sight, contact the coach and send a video. You will have to do more advertising of a female wrestler than the boys do but if you put in the work the rewards are there. http://www.nwcaonline.com/nwcawebsite/womenswrestling/womensfacts.aspx
  4. The young man you refer to is a member of our team. He has been treated like this the entire season. Just last year he was wearing a leg brace and had it since he was quite young. He regained enough strength to have it removed and was told the best therapy for him was to find a sport and participate. HE CHOSE WRESTLING. I consider it an honor to have him on our team and commend all who have chosen to allow this young man the opportunity to make the most of his life.
  5. Does IHSAA actually have the desire or ability to do this for wrestling?
  6. What was the double DQ at J119 7th-8th match?
  7. At last someone has hit the nail on the head. Until other sports mandate that underclassmen cannot participate on varsity them long live103.
  8. Only cadet? I know several second year schoolboys from last year that are now freshman. I have not been around highschool since 98 was eliminated but I do know that there are plenty of kids to wrestle my smaller club kids that will not be able to gain the 15 -20 pounds needed to make 105 or whatever the larger-kid-type proponents think is too small to be of any value to a wrestling program
  9. Look at ISWA results for state tourneys or just observe the state tourneys at schoolboy 84,91 and cadet 84,91. They are always packed with talented kids that should be wrestling for a highschool next year. Do these kids deserve to loose out on their chance? Most of these two weights have as many or more in their brackets as the juniors do in some of the more accepted weights. So the smaller kids are there, we should focus on why we can't get them to participate for their highschool team. Eliminating or raising the weighclass will only encourage the smaller kids to look elsewhere to exercise their talents. Lets not take our sport down the same ugly path that other sports have gone down, where only the biggest or tallest may even think of participating. We must work together to get the most athletes involved as we possibly can.
