  1. what was the final count on the jeff regional advancing to state? i just paid attention to the jeff sectional and didn't see the southridge kids much besides kendle. kendle wrestled better than anyone from that regional. i loved his intensity and attitude out there. he wanted to win! weekly and shepherd looked good for jeff. browner tried his best against stein but just ran into a great wrestler at the wrong time. smith lost a tough one on what i believe to be a poorly officiated match. ref was a little to fired up. they were one of the only teams from the regional that looked like they were ready to take it to someone. sampson from new washington impressed me getting 3rd. did not see him beating waddell like he did. i think he could place with the right draw. what happened to floyd? they looked lost on the mat. really expected them to get a couple through. martin made it. not the same magic as last year but he will be representing new albany at the big one. kid goes hard. congrats to all thoset that made it. look forward to watching you next weekend.
  2. these are in order! 103: hall, vanhook, schroeder, shepherd 112: kuhn, boomsma, kendle, smith 119: moody, molloy, miller, reiker 125: raley, judy, reiker, hoehn 130: miracle, martin, schofield, browner 135: barlow, weekly, rassbach, rueger 140: bealmer, milton, salyer, montgomery 145: welch, moberly, sims, sampson 152: welch, richey, mappes, parrish 160: reese, kolb, terrell, fudurick 171: weiss, stein, boots, brandt 189: rosebrock, eads, voges, bass 215: froehlick, wooding, vandeventer, adams 285: daugherty, hammelman, vandeman, jenkins
  3. okay southridge sectional, you let me down. i predicted you would have a better showing. must have been the trip over in bad weather. jeff boys prove they're the team to beat east of evansville and south of bloomington. google has an app for that if you're confused. they down right made some of the competition look bad. don't expect them to roll over next week because the competition will be a bit more .... competitive. had a few great matches but this weekend was a lot like last weekend. mostly jeff sectional rematches with a big one going the other way. big observation was endurance. jeff sectional outlasted southridge. southridge guys were tough early on and had me a little worried. speaking of let downs... like donnie baker never making his preditions... floyd only having one in the finals. jeff has assumed the role of bmoc for the time being, at least another year. i enjoyed watching them battle jeff and na over the years. somewhat anticlimatic without them in the mix. until then, we can all speculate in the hospitality rooms if floyd exporting their best coaches to KY is a good strategy. we now know who our state reps will be come next saturday. moberly. i stuck with him and he about stuck sampson. that kid is state bound. if i had one lock, he is it. weekly. i hope the cakewalk in the last two weeks does not hurt him next week. the kid is tough. rickman. didn't buy in until today. destroyed newcomb in the finals. handled the floyd kid easily. the jasper kid has a descent shot at heavyweight. that weight is impossible to predict.... these guys have a shot... i want browner to go, but he might have the toughest weight class. he will have to win in an underdog match to make it i think. shepherd. tough to get out. drawl may decide it. smith. needs to push the action more. doesn't impress me in the big matches. miller. martin. scrappy kid and intense. witt. looks great except for martin. could get on a role. sampson. i think moberly delivered the knockout punch this weekend. i'm sure theres more i'm missing. brackets coming out will solve a lot of it. jeff ran a good tournament for 2 weeks. kids all wrestled hard and wish them the best next weekend.... even my southridge friends
  4. especially seeing browner getting beat. going to be tough to place in the top 4 there. i still think a couple will get through somewhere. biggest problem may be people getting to jeff this weekend with a forecast of snow. which teams will have trouble getting there??? things usually work out weather wise it seems. i just hope jeff didn't schedule a home basketball game saturday night
  5. jeff laid the hammer down on fc. order of teams: mater dei castle jeff jasper i love watching castle but i'm not sure if they can knock mater dei off again. mater dei is getting better every week. jeff is really good but i don't think they are as solid top to bottom.
  6. 103 shepherd (jeff) lahue (cory) happel (fc) concannon (m) 112 kendle (pc) smith (jeff) thomas(fc) echert (j) 119 miller (jeff) meenach(nw) riley(p) olinger (fp) 125 chambers(j) springer(cory) lunsford(pc) marler (na) 130 witt (fc) byrer (nk) martin (na) simpson (jeff) 135 weekly (jeff) denny (fc) beaman(nk) jones (s) 140 rickman (na) newcomb(ch) denny (fc) harder(j) 145 moberly (fc) sampson (nw) schwenk (j) ingram (s) 152 golembeski (pr) daughtery (char)ackerman(j) foster (fc) 160 songer (s) jones (j) marlin (jeff) hall (char) 171 browner (jeff) kreilein (j) bowen (jeff) faulkenburg (fc) 189 voges (fp) bowen (jeff) tucker (j) baker (p) 215 pratt (jeff) manning (pc) dewitt (cory) sharp (fc) 285 jenkins (j) hoke (na) curtley (jeff) veatch (s) advance 33 jeff 23 southridge champs 9 jeff 5 southridge jeffersonville advances 10 with 5 champs jasper 9 floyd 9 i don't see many upsets happening here. a lot of the close rematches may go the other way as they were very close the first time and it seems like it is hard to keep beating the same person in consecutive weekends. i sense a donniebaker update soon...
  7. it was 2-0. i watched this match pretty closely since i had made a strong prediction about it! not much action in the first. sampson rode moberly the entire 2nd period sampson got a quick reversal in the 3rd and rode moberly out. sampson really surprised me with his control. i think you'll see both looking for the takedown next time. they looked timid of each other in the first trying to feel each other out. this was one of the few weights that had a true battle in the final. you will see them in the finals at regional for sure.
  8. i thought we would dominate and get all 14 though and win by 100 points ;D (i was joking during my earlier post) yea, jeff pretty much controlled the thing. every dog has its day.... or two
  9. what did he do? i've never seen him do anything unsportsman like before
  10. any thoughts on the jeff sectional? i don't know what to think. jeff was not as dominate as i thought they would be in losing some matches that they normally win. weekly, browner and shepherd both looked very tough. floyd did not get as many in the finals as i thought and i think they only had 1 champ. i was wrong about sampson. he controlled moberly at 145. it will be interesting to see that rematch! stotridge was injured so it was unfortunate he could not make a run his senior year. martin proved he is money in the tournament. there are a lot of young wrestlers moving onto regionals. hopefully we can outwrestle the southridge sectional and do well at semi-state. not sure who the state qualifier will be from this sectional though. i think weekly and shepherd looked the best. there were some exciting overtime matches. heavyweight and 140 stood out.
  11. i used to get a little offended when people said the jeffersonville sectional was not very strong. after watching today, it was confirmed. there were some very bad matches today 1-2 and 3-4 matches.
  12. i respect all of the local teams because they are working with young men so i dont want to disrespect anyone but here are the facts. jeff has had more kids and a better team than new albany for a while now. jeff beat the pants off floyd last year in hhc and sectionals with kids that had been in the floyd system since elementary school. most of jeffs were recent to the sport. who sent a kid farthest in the state tournament last year? you can't look at 25 years of history and say the present doesn't count. i don't see where these kids would be better off in the other schools (and they are good wrestling schools) when they can't beat jeff at this time. who works harder than dstruck and his staff at getting kids out and developing them into wrestlers?? believe me, there is more work to that job than teaching a pinning combination. they are also taught how to be men (such as treating your opponents and other coaches with respect, win or lose) class and character. would you be willing to sacrifice your time to help someone that needs it more than you? if not, then don't post your trash on here and insult an entire group because you have beef with a couple of people.
  13. whoosier daddy..... big question is after reading the newspapers the past few weeks, can those floyd boys start that tradition again that they had for so many years or is jeff the new big dog in town??
  14. i'm not sure we will have any state placers this year. here are the best chances for them though browner stotridge witt weekly moberly sampson - depending on which way the 145 battle goes getting to friday night is a good possibility but because of the competition level at semi-state i don't see them placing in the top 2 at semi-state. i sure would like to see it though. not the same this year without donnie baker and c-red to get the discussions going....
  15. it doesn't mean that sampson won't win because of the schedule but if you look at what happens each year kids with a weak schedule get put out earlier. schedule is the only thing i can go by since these two have almost zero comparison points. in the tournament you have one tough match after another and when you are not used to it it can catch up with you. if you are used to a tough schedule you are more mentally prepared for the grind.
  16. i agree that you have some very talented individuals. i'm not sure about 112 winning over smith, but the rest are probably right.
  17. based on what kendrick has posted and what i know from not yet seeing the brackets... 103 shephard, happell, lahue - happell is the surprise of this weight class but shephard is a little better 112 smith, thomas, no one else even close - smith pins his way through 119 miller - pins all the way through 125 stotridge, castro, springer - down goes the 1 seed! i'm still waiting on stotridge to catch fire in his belly. 130 witt, fowler, martin - best match is in the semis. someone must not have a conscience 135 weekly, denny - weekly is fun to watch 140 denny, newcomb, rickman - denny throws in the legs and stuffs some heads with that lanky body like he would have been doing under the previous administration a long time ago (quote from a floyd fan at hhc, doh!) 145 moberly, sampson close like i predicted before. schedule pays off. sampson gets my vote for most likable kid though. 152 golembeski, tatgenhorst, foster, daughtery - this ones for you jboy! 160 need to see the brackets for this one 171 J-E-F-F Jeff! Jeff! Jeff! 189 bowen. libretto 215 pratt, dewitt, sharp 285 hoke, curtley, slaten, edwards jeff is the clear favorite here. very enjoyable team to watch this year. lets hope they can represent this sectional well on the team state road. this program was built by hard work, passion, and class - 6 or 7 champs fc - still tough in a lot of weight classes with kids that were around several years ago. capable of 4 champs new albany - just not feeling them after conference charlestown - not sure the individuals have improved as much as other teams things to learn: you should get a medal for fielding a full squad corydon - proves that getting high seeds though a weak schedule does NOT pay off . just joking although i found it strange they got seeded over some of the better wrestlers. best of luck to the corydon kids. tougher than southridge sectional (they have some kids advancing to regional by just showing up!) an overall weak sectional and regional will not be good at semistate based on last years experience. better get the one seed!
  18. have the brackets for the jeff sectional been posted yet??/
  19. it doesnt matter if it is daugherty or jv or whoever. he might make it out of sectional and regional but semi-state will be the end of the journey for most in this weight class out of the jeff sectional i would say. he's a good wrestler and may do well in the sectional but hes not on the level of the top 4 in the semistate. monday will solve a lot of the questions when seedings take place.
  20. i forgot about scottsburg. they have a couple of studs as well. team order: jennings columbus north columbus east scottsburg madison southwestern seymour brown county bnl
  21. charlestown pinned at hwt. this is about the time of year people start being strategic about who wrestles who to protect seedings at sectionals. not very eventful meet to say the least. catfish is right. i guess we'll all be surprised when we get to semi-state to see who the best wrestlers are ;D just joking tripleb. you do more than the rest of us have!
  22. i think the jennings sectional is a little tougher than the hhc and the jeff sectional this year. there are many more tough individuals and full teams at jennings. it has a couple of state champ possibilities like richey. it feeds into a much tougher regional too. southwestern always has a couple of studs to watch out for along with brown county. so throw in those guys and a team like columbus north and it is much tougher than the hhc in my opinion this year. i'd say the team champ is going to be jennings county with columbus north in second. what all teams go to jennings now? i might be missing someone
  23. is your returning champ going down to 140???
  24. i disagree that the hhc is a strong conference. i thought the level of competition at the hhc tournament was down. there were some good matches for the top 2 or 3 spots but most classes were very weak in the bottom 4 or 5 positions. there is one great team. one very good team. the next two are above average. the next two are a bit below average. the bottom two are very weak. everyone thought the hhc was tough last year when jeff sent 12 to semi-state and floyd sent 9. only one made it to state and most lost in the first round to lower seeds. i would be surprised to see but a handful make it to state this year out of the conference. i hope more make it but i don't see it this year. heres my picks for qualifiers jeff - 4 floyd - 2 - best chance to have a wrestler place at state jennings - 2 ce - 1 na - 1 maybe mad - 0 sey - 0 bnl - 0
