  3. This week Head Coach Todd Sacksteder and Scot Dawson stepped down from their coaching posts at Beech Grove High School after 10 years of service to our community. As alum, I wanted say thank you for carrying on the tradition at Beech Grove in both helping shape better student athletes as well as producing on the mat. The Sacksteder Dawson Era produced 8 Conference championships in a row at one point, several Marion County Champions, 13 more State Qualifications, and most importantly 2 more State Champions for ?The Grove. Here?s to the next 10 years and several more state titles for the Hornets of Beech Grove. Thanks guys.
  4. I got on the site at the airport today to get some semistate results - when I came across this topic. I normally would hold my tongue, but one of Indiana?s greats somehow continues to ?fall through the cracks? in discussions like this. I would assume this is because he?s a humble guy and would never list his own accomplishments?so Ill do it for him. I was lucky enough to have him in the chair in most of my matches at Conseco and can tell ya he?s a great coach and a great guy. Bob Morris ? Now, the old-timers on here will know him, but some of the younger fellas might not. I?ll list a few of his accomplishments. Personal ? 1972 IHSAA State Runner-up ? Iowa State & Indiana Universities? 3rd 1971 USAW Junior Nationals -Freestyle ? Finalist 1972 USAW Junior Nationals -Greco? Member 1972 Olympic Training Camp Squad ? Coach Morris was 1 of only 3 High Schoolers in Freestyle and the only High Schooler in Greco-Roman!? 4th 1975 USAW Senior Nationals - Greco? 5th 1976 USAW Senior Nationals - Greco? Brown Belt (Judo) School Coaching: ? Assistant Bloomington N HS ? Assistant Coach, IU? Assistant Coach, Perry Meridian HS? Assistant Coach, BGHS? Assistant Coach, Coronado HS (Col Springs)? 1985-86 Junior Director, IN/USAW? 1986-88 State Chairman, IN/USAW? 1987-88 Asst Chairman, USAW National Junior World Council? 1989-90 Junior Director, CO/USAW? 1990-91 Secretary, CO/USAW? 2004-05 Coaches Director, CO/USAW? 1989-91 Assistant Director, USAW ? National Coaches Education, National Camps & Clinics, State Services, National Events, Merchandise, Sponsorship, Finance, International Exchanges Head Coach o Indiana-USAW Junior Nationals -Greco (85 & 86) o Colorado-USAW Junior Nationals -Freestyle (91) o Indiana-USAW FS&GR Junior National Duals (92) Handled coaching duties for athletes earning spots on Team USA at Cadets (1989) & Junior Worlds (1990) Assistant Coach, Hoosier WC (IU) 1987-88 2 Junior World All Americans o Head Coach, Pikes Peak WC (Col Springs) 1989-91 2 Junior National & 1 Junior World All No disrespect to many of the others listed, but Olympic training camp squad as a High-Schooler, Senior Nationals (big time) medals, Judo Brown Belt, college coaching, Junior world team coaching, administrative positions with USAW, and donated his time for FREE to most if not all of these positions. You?d never know it unless you grabbed ahold of him but the guy is one of our all time greats, and despite being instrumental in paving the way for what Indiana and the ISWA are today, still is not in the IHSWCA hall of fame..?
  5. Congratulations Danny. First American Idol..... now this?! You have been on a roll lately my friend. http://www.facebook.com/bgwrestlingclub?sk=wall#
  6. Add to your thoughts and prayers the family of former Whiteland wrestler and football player Jimmy Waters, age 21, who was laid to rest this weekend. http://www.indystar.com/article/20110710/LOCAL04/107100363/Community-gathers-funeral-fallen-Indiana-soldier?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CIndyStar.com
  7. We regret to inform the public that the Beech Grove freestyle wrestling tournament, originally scheduled for April 23rd 2011, has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. ~BG Wrestling Club www.facebook.com/bgwrestlingclub
  8. I shy away from posting here because so many greats were left off of this list! I will only add ... -How about those that founded the ISWA AND -Those that formed the Indiana Coaches Association Also this may be of use: http://www.ihswca.com/clicktoseemembers.html *Also of note: There are 10 'Beech Grover's' on the Hall of Fame List, counting all categories.
  9. Beech Grove had 3 former wrestlers injured in battle in the past year, with at least 2 earning the purple heart. McIntyre - Severely injured in battle, had many discs in his back crushed after being electrocuted. -Marion County Champion Damon Roessler - Head Injury, now disabled from battle. - State Qualifier Aaron Edwards - Semi State qualifier (his father, Ralf, was a state champion in 1972) Purple Heart - was shot in the chest during battle. Is now state-side. 3 Kids, about the same age, from one fairly small school paid a large price! They are greatly appreciated and admired for their valor, as are all others mentioned. BG has had several others in battle recently, however I'm afraid if type them all out i will forget someone! Thanks to all. -Hobbs
  10. Thank you guys, and Rex for the donation. It's always nice when the donations are in memory or honor of someone. I very much appreciate the donations. Also, Spring Hill Elementry has been very helpful in thier donations, so thank you to all who can help!
  11. Alright Maligned, you twisted my arm! The truth is, I never really had a decision made going into a match, it usually depended on the match situation, the score, etc. In this particular match, I had the only takedown so we felt by choosing top, if he did get an escape, I was still in good shape back on our feet. Also, I had traditionally been able to score points from top in big matches. As far as cutting him later in the match, he had already been awarded 2 escapes, and we were concerned that my opponent would strategically wait until a few seconds left in the match and attempt a last second escape (score was 2-2.) After going out of bounds I looked to the corner and the coaches asked if I thought I could take him down again. I shook my head yes and cut him. Apparently I could not! It?s just one of those situations where if it works out you look brilliant, and if it doesn?t it?s really questionable. I would liken it to 4th down in the 4th quarter and you?re down by 3 points. We went for the winning touchdown instead of the tying field goal. Maligned, we are all grateful for your work, and anyone else that is doing good for the world. If any of you are able to donate please use the link (you do not have to be a member of this board), if not I understand and hope you?ll keep me in mind next year. http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=300513&lis=1&kntae300513=C31618FDA84F4766BEFD4C605BFA1C9A&supId=255183607 AWood - Good luck to your girlfriend's mother, and if you have any fundraising stuff please post it in the future. Thanks, ~Nick Hobbs

I have to admit that the training for this over the past 3 months has been an eye opener. 26.2 Miles is no joke. *Gibson couldn't beat me in half marathon with a 21km head start! Thanks again guys, ~Nick Hobbs
  14. Hey everybody, Long time listener first time caller, but I always like to get on from time to time to check out 'the boards.' I am running the Chicago Marathon in a little more than 2 weeks to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I thought i would submit this and anyone in the wrestling family who could help a little bit might be willing to do so. Simply Click the link and you can just use your debit card in a couple easy steps. Even $10 helps, so please help out if you can; so that we can grant a wish this year!!
