  1. Exciting match to say the least! Congrats to Binion for the win and to both wrestlers for an amazing match!
  2. Under these circumstances I think that would be a poor choice of actions. If a injury caused by an illegal move or action by another wrestler only costs a wrestler the match in most cases I can't see how this action by a parent being worthy of a ban for the state series.
  3. Congratulations to the Penn team! I could be wrong but I think Penn had a number of their wrestlers win a place or to higher then they were seeded. A ton of terrific individual matches! Anyone have a favorite match?
  4. I don't know if you are a parent or not but most parents are extremely protective of their kids. I don't condone a parent yelling at a kid but I can understand why it could happen in a case like this. This was not action "on the line". It was well past the line. (I taped the event and have already reviewed the tape.) It was an unfortunate event for all involved. Joe's comment is a class way of dealing with the issue. Enough said!
  5. Joe, While you can't take back what happened in the match the way you have handled it since then is very commendable. I think your comment on here shows a level of maturity your coach and team should be very proud of you having! Hopefully you both will be able to wrestle again at regions.
  6. Rankings Guy updated the state 125 rankings - "125 has been updated to reflect previously #10 collin slagle-griffith being withdrawn from the state series"
  7. Corey's wrestling skills have grown by leaps and bounds this season including a win over a number 3 ranked Michigan wrestler. We wish him a speedy recovery!
  8. Agreed! Also many refs are former wrestlers or coaches
  9. Nicely done predictions. Here are changes & input I would make in my predictions. 103 - Toss up! Fozo (Mish) - Davis (Penn) have not faced each other yet this season. This will be a great match that could go either way. 112 - For places 2 & 3 a toss up between Martsolf (Mish) - Hildebrandt (Penn) who have not faced each other yet this season. 125 - Binion (Mish) - Chapple (Penn) will be an exciting match for 1 & 2. Chapple (Penn) has pinned Ullery (SB Riley) 2 times this season. The match between Ullery (SB Riley) Johnson (SB Clay) will also be very competitive for spots 3 and 4. 285 - Maggart (Penn) pinned Carr (SB Clay) at NIC. *Edited after Karl's post*
  10. I think the Hummer vs Marshall match at 152 will be very good. I give the edge to Hummer.
  11. This weekend while watching a match I saw a referee make a mistake. The coach respectfully argued for his wrestler to no avail. After reviewing the video at home the mistake was confirmed. The real news flash for many in the wrestling community... The wrong call was made, the call cost a wrestler the match... but, life continued on... the sun still rose the next day just like it always does. We are a passionate group in the wrestling community. Sometimes our emotions can blind us to the fact that a ref can and will make a mistake. A mistake can come at a crucial time during a match but cool heads all around and respect for the sport must prevail from coaches to wrestlers to fans and parents and from the refs themselves. Remember that many wrestling calls are a judgment call. Those calls are made in a split second. There is not instant replay for most circumstances in wrestling with certain national events and large tourneys being the exceptions. With the freestyle and greco season coming soon there will be many less experienced parent/coaches and ref's with less knowledge of all the rules. Mistakes will be made by ref's and coaches alike. Here are some of the things I have learned from coaching over the years- * Be respectful at the table with ref's and scoring officials while trying to overturn a call. * Read the rule book and have a copy of it will you. * Make the case for overturning the call and then most importantly - Respect the final outcome of the call being overturned or not being overturned. * Keep in mind many of the calls are judgement calls and are based on what a ref saw at that split second. A good way to find out why a call went a certain way is to ask the ref what they saw while making the call. This may not change the call, but will help you coach and inform your wrestlers of what to expect if a ref sees things happen a certain way during a match. * Did I mention respect? Emotions can cloud judgement. Be respectful and demand that your wrestlers and parents and fans are respectful as well. In my experience overwhelmingly most referees are very respectful and do a wonderful job but I do have some advice for refs as well- * Understand that a coach or coach/parent arguing for a call may be emotional. Your emotional control may calm all involved. * Be prepared to explain why you made a call. * Listen carefully to what is being challenged and be open to correcting a mistake. Yes, even you as a knowledgeable ref may have made a mistake.

  15. Manspeaker did not wrestle today. Ben Lenig wrestled for Penn all day at 130
  16. For Mishawaka's Taylor Wisler at 130.... He did not win against Ben Varner of Penn... He won against Ben Lenig of Penn. Ben Varner did not wrestle at all in the Mishawaka/Penn dual.
  17. Not listed in the undefeated wrestlers but also not sure how he did overall.
  18. Penn did not wrestle Valpo and I was filming Penn all day so I don't have any info on that. Maybe someone else can help?
  19. Believe Brooks went 4-1 with a dq in the loss. Still reviewing tape, not sure about Manspeaker.

  21. That was an exciting dual! Both teams seemed to have wrestlers wrestling in odd weights and either having missing starters or wrestlers that were wrestling with minor injuries. Very competitive matches. I think it will be another awesome match come the end of the season - for certain a must watch match-up! The Mishawaka/Penn JV match-up was extremely lopsided with Penn winning 48 - 9. Penn's depth is amazing!
