  1. Im not familiar with the schools but if there both broke I take the one with community envolvement. If niether of them have it then i start it and I am sure both districts have the atheletes to progress into great teams.
  2. No the bigger schools just have better programs set up wrestling has been behind basketball forever in indiana and its not goign to change over night. bigger schools jsut took advantage quicker and are reaping the rewards for the time being parity takes years but its obtainable through hard work and good coaching. Just ask mr goble and his 10 rings or whatever he has.
  3. The mega schools have changed arround from year to year just because the past fw have been likethis doesn't mean it will forever be like that. Success use to go through evansville.
  4. I would argue that large numbers of big schools are broken as well. The same problems happen at big schools and small. Its rediculous that small schools cop out on the truth. Numbers can be hard to get at all schools unless you have dedicated individuals trying to make the sport better in the communities.
  5. Well indiana basketball has been hurt through the process. I have already stated they lost a ton of attendance during the change and are starting to pick back up but it will be decades before they are able to come close to retaining there attendance. I would say since Indiana is on the rise for superior college wrestlers we shouldn't change look at illinois if anything it has stalled out the progress of there state. They are considered a good wrestling state and there progress has slowed in top level atheletes. .02percent is not a growth I would be bragging about over a 30 year stretch. Or since were in an economic crunch the big schools will get rid of there programs. Lots of them don't fill there rosters either and it is less acceptable at big schools. Termination of those schools would hurt as well.
  6. I would say at the college level we have never had this much top level success. We had 3 in the top 4 in the nation. Thats 3 40th of the college wrestlers. Thats almost ten percent which is well above what we should have as a state. If you go down to top eight we had 5 I believe which would still be above where we should be as a state. Next year we will be just as competitive also. Howe, Humphreys, Escobedo, Kinser and the list continues. Lets face it were getting to be as good as we have ever been and lets not change it if its not broken.
  7. I am very aware of that and respectfully disagree with it and I am not going to say what a personally feel about tritons program. It would be good but it won't work, name where it has worked and we can talk. Y2J's examples were very weak with ohio and illinois. Do not change it unless you no the results will be benificial on a whole. Some schools would have more problems with there big school sectionals and would hurt big school numbers. That and bad programs will stay bad. Its simple really you only hurt the bottom of the big schools and you only help the top of the small schools. Not a fair trade off where I am sitting. The ends don't justify the means you cant take from someone to make another person happy.
  8. I want 20 coaches that wouldn't be effected by the change to say that class wrestling would in fact help the sport. Its taking away from the state tournement and the competition your wrestlers get to face. It also would hurt because people would push for individual classes and that would diminish the compition at both states. The system is great how we have it were succeeding at record levels lets keep it this way for a lil while and see if we peak. If we did and you want to switch stuff arround i could see considering it but lets not just throw away are current system when its working.
  9. Schools with very little success can build there programs now they just don't do it. This is not because of class wrestling not being a part of the equation. Its because the parents and community don't put forth the time and effort. Its not like coaches are going to run out and say alright we have a shot now its classed. Coaches either have it or they don't and the arguement that bad programs would put forth more effort because of the class system is bullocks. Basically if you say you want to make yourself look better as a coach i would see that but anything else is just a cop out for the true reason.
  10. Bad wrestling schools will stay bad unless the community and coaching take it to the next level. If both those two are on the same page good things will happen. Even if your a small school with a bad program and you wake up tommarro and everything is classed it doesn't mean yourgoing to be a good team. Plus there are so many bad 5a schools that classing this system will also hurt their numbers. Good schools are good because they have had a system in place for 10 plus years. Its not because they get great atheletes to start wrestling its because there wrestlers have been in the sport for 10 or 15 years by the time they graduate. Technique can over come talent more then talent can overcome technique. Coach the youth from elementry on up and have the coaches in place to have good numbers and success will follow. Look at the good wrestling communities, they all have good youth programs its not because there bigger its because the students want to be wrestlers. Lets start classing the youth to its unfair for little jimmy who wrestles for a small school to compete with crown points larry. Its rediculous there taught better from young ages and thats why there great.
  11. I will how is a weaker state tournement good for the kids? Everyone would agree that classing the state would make each half weaker I will presume? Basically if you want less individual competition I could see you agree but if you would like your atheletes to push them selves and become better then the individual portion is great how it is.
  12. Your a sick sick man if your think classing individual is a positive thing. The individual portion of the state has nothing to do with team size at all. Two men wrestle one wins no one to blame but themselves. Otherwise just go start a club sport at garret and leave the state how it is. Your only for your own personal gratification if your for telling the kids they can't compete with bigger school wrestlers. Small schools have always done there fair share at the state tournement and there is no reason for that to be touched.
  13. I said compete at a high level would be better then winning a lower class at lower level state. I am assuming a 3 level field. Basically its a joke when the biggest team tournement of the year isn't even the state title. Face it, it downgrades compitition. Why do this in a sport that has so many equalisers. Again the numbers are not stagoring in the rooms for a lot of state championship teams before the past three or four years 30 wrestlers in a room was a great year.
  14. Your not scared of the people thats the problem. The people can make changes and we will see come the next election if class wrestling is changed. I will personally get all the information from each school district to make sure changes do occur. So Karl we are not powerless in this situation and its people like you who try and stiffle the publics voice and its people like you who are out for thier own personal gains not the gains of indiana wrestling. Classing it is looked down on by the people and classing the sport will agrivate the fans. So I am taking a personal stance that changes in the current system at the current time will have repercutions at the next election cycle.
  15. 1 class is enough and the people are voting and they likethe current system
  16. Im not saying there an internet poll will determine the outcome, but I am saying the people don't want it. If we elect you into office you have an obligation to listen to the peoples thoughts. You work for us after all. You can go your own route but then again the people will be electing the next tiem arround and it may be your last term in a lead position. So you work for us listen to us is all i am saying, and whoever votess it to class will have some serious outcry for them to loose at the next election cycle
  17. Basically i think that television exposure should help attendance. It gets people involved with the tournement and makes them want to be a part of it. Someone needs to get wrestling news out there better. That would help our cause I know. Classing is silly take 16 teams instead of 8 just don't class the thing.
  18. Fact or fiction if we class the sport the al smith classic will be the second biggest tournement to win of the season right behind the big class state. Its a joke I would rather be top 5 at an Al Smith then when a 1 a title. Fotoball is different because playing 22 guys is a lot better then 11 on both sides of the football. There is a competitive advantage where as wrestling 14 guys is a steady thing. No one has an advantage. Less then 10 schools have over 30 wrestlers I would imagine so the rooms are not that big of a difference either.
  19. Like that of california I take it. This all being said we do not have a class tournement and our college atheletes are doing better then ever before maybe this is because were doing it right. Were not cutting the competition to make it easier. Were making our kids go through a grinder for a state title. There is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. If you on't like the current system them drop out of it like you told me about the website.
  20. Its because the Ihsaa won't change back once we have something we are usually stuck with it they have a bad time admitting fault. Y2 doesn't scew facts he just sees what he wants to in them and doesn't look at anything else. Ex. Illinois voted on a whole and they do not support class wrestling. Y2j: " women who smoke over the age of 45 did believe that class wrestling was a good thing for the sport." thats kinda far fetched but he took the coaches into account. By taking coaches many of those who voted on the results is kinda like taking a bill through congress right now that doesn't work and then asking the democrats what they thought of it. The answer is always to not turn your back on your descisions.
  21. Ohio is 4 times our size they should make a huge jump. Illinois has done nothing worth bragging about. 14 wrestlers on the varsity team is all you can have on any highschool team that helps to even the sport. Also the wieght classes add another set of equality in the sport. To tell the truth I do agree with ohio classing there tournement more then I would ours, its a much much bigger state. You said you coached at northrop? I looked that up it isn't to small of a school. I don't see anything about there wrestling program being good in the news so why are they not as dominate as your school.
  22. Actually a new stadium helped with that. Im not going to argue but the numbers are down on a whole. Just say that and whatever you like afterwards the key to me is the whole numbers. The Ihsaa is a business and it thrives by attendance and things like that so bottom line it isn't as proffitable as it was. Ps. I can scew whatever the numbers are still down on a whole.
  23. Yeah it has risen in the past few years but is still way down since the classing of basketball has started. It may rise above it someday but we are still years away and there is no telling if it will ever happen
  24. State size should matter the sport of wrestling has equalizsers like wieght classes and only 14 wrestlers. So basically all schools are on the same playing field. The more schools the more competition the more top calliber kids. Iowa has been born and raised to wrestle thats why they are so dominate on the numbers its about there communities. I do agree we could be as good as other states if we had the community commitment. Iowa has 4 wrestlers per 100000 at the D1 level that shows theydo somethign rigt they have community envolvement arround the state there sport is wrestling not basketball players. Its the same as soccer accross the world. The USA are all small guys who couldn't play football where Europe is all big guys who didn't want to play football. Wrestling is like basketball in iowa's communities. Yeah and Neraska has 12 D1 wrestler so its really helped there state. Washington has less then us also and north carolina has 8 D1 teams.
  25. First of all the time frames are so long ago that it doesn't apply because there are thousands of factors that go into making a state a quality wrestling state. Secondly a .02 change is not signifigant enough to show a change because of class wrestling. Ohio was so below where they should be according to the numbers that they were bound to make a signifigant change. Give an example in the 1990's that has happend and benifited the state. If Illinois doen't have a national champ in the next two years then they are actually below where they have started it shows no growth.
