  1. Avon does not pay. All club proceeds go towards the kids at all levels. That is good enough for all involved and very rewarding. $100 bucks gets you three practices a week for 7 months, your USA card, shorts and a Tee. Not a bad deal.
  2. Tourney was great this year. Great showing for the Avon boys. The Avon School District had 18 placers this year including: 3-champs, 3 runners up, 3- third, 2 fourths, 3 sixth, 3 seventh, and 1 eighth. The Avon coaching staff would like to congratulate all of the boys for their hard work.
  3. The ISWA is looking to fill a handful of spots for their first ever ISWA sponsored trip to Kingsport, TN for the AAU National Duals. The trip fee is $120.00 per wrestler (includes gear and entrey fee). We have a very nice hotel booked. Leave very early friday morning. Stay Friday and Saturday nights. Be home Sunday night. Wrestlers must be born in 2000 or after and be in the 5th grade or below. Weights needed are the following: 95- 100- 108- 116- 125- 135- 148. Spots will be given on a first come first serve basis. So contact me a.s.a.p. Thanks Matthew Brewer ISWA Folkstyle Developmental Director 317-201-0644
  4. Tryouts went great. We have some open spots. Please contact me at 317-201-0644. If your wrestlers would like to attend.
  5. Thanks for the endorsement MCKAJC. I wish that you boys could come. They are great wrestlers and class acts. I ripped this from the high school board. 6. How did this thread turn into a ISWA issue? As the newest ISWA Board Member, I can tell you this. The folks at the ISWA work very hard to please as many of it's members as possible. They put forward a ton of thought and effort, and do not make a dime. Is everything we do perfect? Absolutely not. NOBODYS perfect. I am a new face who is doing my part to help the fine folks at the ISWA. We can all get on this board and complain.... or we can do something to make things better. I see people on here saying that the INFO lady's responses are BS, and bashing our organization. But have you taken the time to sit and talk to these people? If you did, it wouldn't take long to see where their hearts are. The info lady and other ISWA members are great people that do a thankless job, to benefit our kids. ISWA meeting are open to all. Walt, you seem to be a very passionate guy who wants the best for our youth. I assure you that the ISWA does also. You may or may not be a very busy guy. If you ever get some time, maybe you can bring us some of your ideas and time. I am sure we can all work together to make things better. As far as Indy Nationals, you got the proper and accurate response from the ISWA. We had nothing to do with it. What would you like us to say? We are sorry that you are frustrated. I was there for 15 hours. I too wasn't walking around and skipping. But it was what it was. I just made the best of it and moved on. With all of this said, I can assure you this. The ISWA will do it's very best to make our state tournaments the best that it can be. We can not dictate or take over local tournaments..... but if any club or local tournament director needs help, then I assure you that I or any other ISWA board member will help in any way possible. I am sure that someone will get on here and say that this post is BS or not honest or that I am a jerk. With that said, I care about all of our wrestlers and love our sport. I hope that we can all move forward in a positive manner. Thanks, Matthew Brewer ISWA Folkstyle Developmental Director
  7. Avon Youth Coach- Jon McClain from webo finished 2nd 4th and 5th
  8. The team try outs will be held at Avon High School on Feb. 25th and 26th. Weight classes from 40 to 75 will wrestle on from 11 to 3 on the 25th. Weight Classes from 80 to HWT will wrestle from 12 to 4 on the 26th. If you have a state placer from last year that is born in 2000 or after and is in the 5th grade or under and would like to attend. Please contact Matt Brewer @ 317-201-0644. We look forward to a good turn out. The first two teams will be determined by wrestle offs. The first and second place kids gets the spot PERIOD (regardless of grade). The third team will be made of underclassmen (K-4) who do not finish in the top two. This will be a developmental team to get the younger kids ready for the future. Details are in the ISWA book (page 113). The tournament is April 13,14, and 15. A two night stay will be required for most. Matt Brewer ISWA Folkstyle Developmental Director

  11. My oldest son started when he was 5. He was very timid and did not win a match, but he keep a good attitude and has worked his butt off to be a solid wrestler. He is now 11 and loves the sport. He does get emotional when he loses (they all do), but not out of control. All in all a good family experience when he wrestles. So, he moved forward. My youngest was 5 last year. He had success last year. He won many tournaments and placed high at freestyle state. But he has a very poor attitude and can not handle losing. He could be very successful. With this said, him having a positive attitude, respecting the sport and his parents is more important. He is not wrestling anymore. He will attend a practice every now and then (if he can handle it). He will be allowed to wrestle once again if he learns to respect his parents, other kids, and the sport. Do I want my kids to be great wrestlers? Sure! We all do. With that said, if losing or just going on the mat causes emotional trama or stress in a child. It is not worth it! I would say this. Ask him if he wants to practice or go to a meet. If he says no...... then let him stay home. If he says yes, then be sure to give him your expectations. If he can not handle this, then maybe try again in a year or two. Every kid is different and special in their own ways. Some kids can handle things better then others. We as wrestling parents need to realize this, put our best foot forward, and do whats best for our kids. If they have "it"...... "it" will come out sooner or later. If they do not have "it" ...... that's OK. Matt Brewer ISWA Folkstyle Developmental Director
  12. Again, my mistake (not ISWA). Lets not take this turn. We all mean well. Lets focus on our trip and doing the best for the kids of ALL ages. Lewdwar has contacted me. We are good. It was just a misunderstanding. Lets move forward in a positive manner. High School State will be a great event. We are all sorry to see it end. Good luck to all. No date will be perfect. Lets fill these teams with our best kids, and go beat Iowa. I think we can all agree on these facts!
  13. Not at all. If you cant make it, we will make arrangements. It was the best date that I could get. I am very sorry. The date was set by me (I take total fault). Team state is very important. Good luck and best wishes to all team that are left in the hunt! We do want the best for all ages. Please call or email for arrangements.
  14. Looks like 40 - 75 Saturday 11-3 and 80 and up Sunday 12 to 4. I hope this helps. Emails with updates will go out today. Thanks.
  15. We (the ISWA) have compiled a very impressive list of wrestlers. All wrestlers and coaches (who have put their names in the hat) will be contacted this week via email. If you are interested in going and have not been contacted by weeks end, please call me. We have blocked rooms at the Meadowview Conference Center and gear has been ordered. We have coaches that have committed from all corners of the state. We plan on having the selection camp on Saturday and Sunday February the 25 and 26th (weekend after high school state). With lower weights attending one day and upper weights the next. Camp will be at Avon High School in Central Indiana and will last about 4 hours per day. We need upper weights. Looking for 135, 148 and HWT. If you know of any which are 5th grade and below and born in or after 2000. Feel free to post names! Anyone else wanting to go. Please email me. Thank You, Matthew Brewer ISWA Folkstyle Developmental Director 317-201-0644 mbrewer@eliteindy.com
  16. That would be a very tough pill to swallow. I know that Ben is a very good football player also. I hope that he makes it back to both sports soon. We at Avon Wrestling Club will keep Ben in our thoughts and prayers. Get well youngman.
  17. Awesome event. 16 very tough teams. The 3rd and 4th place dual was a blast. Indiana kids having fun and outstanding sportmanship. A great way to cap off our dual meet season. AWC wrestlers got around 40 matches this dual meet season. Thank you to all that wrestled with the elementary dual teams this season, and all coaches.
  18. Danny, didnt you coach at Cascade last year? How do you forget your guy?
  19. That was Brady Shepard from Jennings County. He injuried that elbow down in Georgia a few weeks ago. He is in fact a stud. His team (team Indiana) was very upset when he got injured down there. They decided (as a team) to give big Brady the second place trophy after the meet. Another example of how the kids from this age group are good sports and care for eachother. I have been very lucky to coach many of these boys.
  20. Tyler Miner and Mason Miranda were also not at Perry. With this said, the Perry tourney falls on the same week as xmas duals every year. There will be studs from many teams missing every year (at Perry). Mason was playing basketball! Please, if anyone sees Mason this season. Tell him that he is too short to play basketball! Lets not take anything away from EMD. I have never seen their youth team, but I am sure that they are very good. They should be very proud for their win at Perry. By the way, great job Columbus and hats off to all of your parents that congratulated our boys and our families. The sportsmanship was great.
  21. We have has a bit of trouble collecting rosters. I should have my final roster in a few. Some rosters are missing card numbers. Coaches this is just like any other ISWA event. No card numbers...... no wrestle. With this said, the draw will take place tonight at the ISWA offices. Pools will be sent to coaches tonight.
  22. Attention All, Due to a double booking for the Franklin Community High School Facilities we will have to move the host site for the Elementary State Duals. We will need to host them at Franklin Middle School ? (the old high school). The address is 625 Grizzly Cub Drive, Franklin IN 46131 (off our US 31). We are sorry we have to make these changes but it is out of our hands at this point. I feel that our middle school is a better facility for wrestling and we will be able to host a great event at that location. We will have 6 mats in the main gym with all spectators sitting upstairs and 2 mats in the smaller gym with the wrestling area roped off for the spectators. We will have weigh ins in the smaller gym. Sorry again for a last minute change but this was just brought to our attention when Bob Hasseman went to double check the facility schedule this morning. Chris Lynch
  23. I have removed my thoughts and replys, good luck with this thread. See you all this weekend. Have a Happy New Year.
  24. This is the final list of teams. Good luck to all.
