  1. I see this a lot and think it is cool. I am suprised that most don't think it a big deal. Maybe I am being over critical. Hard to argue the "cold and flu" argument. BTW I in no way think the wreslers are classless, that comment was directed at the coach who made the decision. I am strating to see the other side of this and "classless" seems a bit harsh!
  2. I want opinions in the follwoing situation; Two wresetlers complete a match, return to center and shake hands. Then (at Bloomington South and 90% of the schools in the state) both wresetlers shake the hand of the opponents coach. I have seen a few schools that do not shake the opponenets chaches' hand. Mater Dei does not. I talked with one of their assistance a couple of years ago and he told me that there was an incident during their string of State Championships where a coach from another team spit on one of their wrestlers during a hand shake. That ended it for them, and to be truthful I do not blame them (and loath the coach in question ????). Last weekend we wrestled a team that did not shake hands. One of our fans ask one of their coaches after the match as to why. Answer: "it is not in the rules and you never see college programs doing it". I agree with both things he said, however I think it classless and does not teach the respect element that many of the HS Coaches want to instill in their wrestlers. > Where do you weigh in?
  3. This is easy for me....Greatest match of all time , for me. December 4th 2008 My son (name not important) wrestles his first HS Varsity match against a wresetler from NorthView. Period 1- score 8-5 (my son is down) Period 2 - score 14-11 (son still down) Period 3 - scored tied at 19-19 (honest) OT 1- My son wins with a take-down with 3 seconds on the clock Now I know that this match never made a highlight reel or was talked about on indianamat, but it is not even close. It was one of the proudist days of my life!!! At the end of the match both wrestler laid on the mat for a full 10 seconds. It was total action and both were so exhausted.
  4. Is Suter from martinsville out?? can anyone confirm this?? If thats the case we really need some 285's nominated!!! He is a good friend of my son's, I talked to him on Saturday. He did have knee surgery to repair a MCL, from preason nationals. Recovery time does have him comming back in time to wrestle a couple of weeks before the sectional. Keeping my fingers crossed as in addition to being a great wresetler this is a fine young man!
  5. The below wrestlers went 5-0 yesterday at Bloomington North. I do not have the possible champs from the other teams. I am pretty sure that Center Groves's Sean Mappes went unbeaten. Bloomington South 103 Boomsma 6-0 on the season all by 1st period fall 130 Dru Spires 140 Spencer Boyd 152 Sam Horrocks 189 Colton Bridges (6-0 and not been scored on this season) Bloomington North 215 Garrett Goldman
  6. After re-reading, I see what he ment. My mistake, glad I did not go viral on him.
  7. Please tell me this is just poor wording. Tell me it does not matter weather the official sees it or not. If an action occurs, that could cause a team point deduction, reguardless of weather the official sees it or not, you will be sitting the next match. Just looking for clarification. If your rules for sitting a wrestler depend on the official seeing it, not the action itself then I have a real problem! Maybe I am just reading it wrong. Giving you the benifit of the doubt.
  8. Boomsma was a light 112 last year and came in preseason around 107. Certified at 103, Body Fat 7.8%. Not having any difficulities maintaining. He will be a beast at this weight! Taking his Senior season very seriously, started conditioning early and really has his "mind right".
  9. Bloomington North is having a 6 way this weekend. Teams Bloomington North Bloomington South Center Grove Columbus North ??? ??? Who are the last two teams? Thanks
  10. Rank maybe.......Ranked, no way! :)
  11. Get USA to sanction the event as an "Exhibition". All participants will need a USA card (most will have from club season). That way the insurance is covered and it will not count as an official match. Leave IHSAA out of this!!!!!
  12. First I want to agree with the posters about "bashing"...no place for it here or anywhere! Question: How is the determination made as to weight class? For example if John Doe is ranked at 135, but wrestles at 140, when does he become a 140 wretler? There are guys on the Ranking that are ranked in a class but are wrestling in another. Is this something that works itself out as the season matures? Or is the consisence that John Doe will drop to 135 post season, therfore the 135 class remains.
  13. Thanks....There was an issue this weekend where a wrestler (ranked at 189) went 215 and weighed-in at 199.0. He said he and his coach decided he would do this then drop to 189 at some point. That is fine, I just do not understand why he weighed-in at 199. Takes away some options. I do not think he did this because of weight. Like I said he certified at 189 in the last couple of weeks.
  14. Please educate me.... If a wrestler certifies at a weight class, say 189, makes the weight and passes the body fat and all. But decides for whatever reason (team or individual) that he will wrestle at 215, and weighs in for a match at 199.0 (10 lbs over his certified weight). Does he have to follow the state weight loss rules and take 4 weeks to get back to 189 or since he certifies at 189 can he wrestle there as soon as he wants? Thanks....
  15. Be careful, mats are expensive and some of the suggestions will dry them out and drastically shorten the mat life. I do not have a suggestion, just wanted you to be aware. One of the old guys in our club likes to use a bleach water mixture. But he recommends mopping with clean water after the bleach mixture to keep the mats and wrestlers from drying out.
  16. Bloomington South is returning 9 Semi-State qualifiers. Should be top 10....
  17. We have done this for four years without a problem. We make sure that an adult supervisor is at all the work sites. Additionally, we have refused some jobs. We had an offer to clean gutters on a three story business, refused it. We do not drive moving trucks but we will load and unload. Most of what we have done is yard work such as mulch and we do a good deal of painting (outdoor only)!
  18. Since our coaches are "Unpaid-Volunteers" , does that mean they do not have to honor the "Moratorium"? I would think that it only applies to paid coaches!
  19. For Disney Duals fundraising we are doing a Rent-A-Wrestler program. If anyone needs work done (yard work, painting, mulch, cleaning, digging, heavy lifting, moving, anything) we will send a group of Wrestlers to you. We can send from 1 - 17 Wrestlers and supervisors to do whatever you need, and you make a tax deductible donation to the club. Any questions give me a call. If you are outside the Bloomington are and need a large project completed let me know....."Have shovel will travel". You young guys wont get that. Rod 812 325 4687 Bloomington South Wrestling Club
  20. Why was their an hour break after only 2.5 hours wrestling? We started about 1015 and stopped form 1235 - 1345? Surely with three officials per mat, two sitting, we could have pushed-on? Is this some kind of rule Thanks
  21. \ Have not heard this what are the specifics?
  22. The NFHS met two weeks ago and the weight class proposals were supposed to be discussed. Any news?
  23. I like the use of pre-registration and weigh-inns. They do allow tourneys to start closer to time. I also like using track wrestling in that is shows wrestler lists and gives the wrestlers an idea of his competition. However, there are some problems like no-shows. Is it possible to take attendance quickly prior to wrestling? Saturday at Perry we had a case where a no-show had a bye in the first round, then he forfeited twice. This did a couple of things. It gave wrestlers who did not wrestle 5 points for two rounds, then the no-show was dropped. It was an odd number bracket so had they know he was not there. No bye's would have been needed. Sad thing was, a wrestler that showed up and lost his first two matches finished behind the no-show! The no-show had the first round bye so he made it 3 rounds where the guy who showed made it two.
