The meet had several competitive matches. Franklin Community always has a tough team, usually one of the state's best. The final score was not indicitive of how close the match was.
How did another individual predict that Mullins would not be wrestling tonight? I feel that I do understand the parameters. Getting to weight on a Wednesday may not be in the best interest of his wrestlers for the individual series. When combined with potential injury, the risk doesn't outweigh the potential reward. It is no secret that teams all across the state have felt the same way, which is a huge reason the IHSAA cited when discontinuing their team state series. This is another incident that the IHSAA will be able to refer to in stating why it was time to end the team state, and I assure you the other teams in that sectional that would have loved the opportunity to represent their school in a team regional probably have a difficult time seeing past that 'tip of the iceberg' you mention..
Anyhow, in case I am misinformed. I googled and was unable to find the facts, and I would like to make an educated/neutral opinionated remark. Perhaps you could elaborate?
Here's my case for Tommy Cash:
Undefeated in Middle School wrestling for all three years. He is a two time Middle School State champ (6th and 8th grade, did not compete in the tournament as a 7th grader). Numerous ISWA titles. He's won many large national level tournaments AND as of right now, his weight is perfect to likely fall as a 103 lber for next year. He's a freshman to watch for sure.
Congratulations to Perry! Although not as impressive as Lowell, it is worth mentioning... Doe Creek scored its points with 10 wrestlers entered. 3 of our 10 wrestlers made the finals. 4 out of 10 placed. We ended with one champ.

I wrestled in a tournament with Team Indiana in the mid to late 90's (96 or so, I'd guess, can't remember exactly) at the Southeast Regionals in Marietta, Georgia. The tournament was supposed to be held in a normal facility, but it didn't work out for some reason. Therefore, we ended up wrestling in an old Wal-Mart. They hadn't completely unstocked all of the shelves yet. I remember going into an aisle and coming across some fishing gear in between matches... Good times!

You don't pitch to Albert Pujols with first base open. It's called strategy, and is very much a part of a dual meet format. If you are trying to win, you look for the best match-ups for your own wrestlers. You cannot honestly fault New Pal for finding a line-up that was able to maximize points.
New Palestine is typically a top 15 team in all class divisions, so I would think that they would have to make a top 10 in 2A. Obviously, I am taking the past traditions into considerations, as teams have not even wrestled a match yet.

I know last year that Yorktown hosted a team state wrestling tournament. I have not seen any information on this tournament, but I was wondering if it was still going to be taking place this year?!
Thanks,
Chris Young
We had about a lot of Doe Creek MS wrestlers at club yesterday, and we expect to have more on Wednesday. All area wrestlers are welcomed!!

An extremely exciting dual that came down to the very last match. Doe Creek won 57-48. With only the Heavyweights left, Doe Creek's Willie Bryan got the pin to seal the victory for the Bucks. Franklin was undefeated up until last night, and Doe Creek's only losses have been close ones to Perry Meridian. Almost every match was competitive, and it was full of excitement.
Franklin will wrestle Perry Meridian on Wednesday, and that should be another exciting one as well.
Great job to both teams!

I think this is the right score. Perry got some great wins, and there were many exciting matches. Perry was the better team tonight. This is always a grinder to get through after the long Middle School state weekend. Many boys on both teams looked worn out at times! Good luck the rest of the season, and congrats!

Track wrestling is not how they scored it. You received 16 points for a first place finish. 12 points for a second place finish. 9 points for a third place finish. 7 points for a fourth place finish. 5 points for a fifth place finish. 3 points for a 6th place finish. I'm not sure how track wrestling scored it though, but that was not the format that they went with. The only way to score points was to have a placer. I guess this is more fair, so a team cannot bring 50 kids and win the state tournament just on having numbers, which would get bonus points for pins, etc. I think I added Lowell to have 32 points, if you did not count the duplicate at 75. 39 points if you do count the duplicate. The form that they handed out at the tournament was pretty clear on the scoring though.
