Avon is so good I don't even know why the rest of the state has a team. They are probably the sole reason wrestling numbers are down state-wide - because everyone knows that next year Avon will win all 14 championships. I wonder if they could send their JV team and their freshmen team to a few other states and win there too.
This isn't a knock on Avon, it's just a little tiring hearing over and over and over how wrestling starts and ends in Hendricks County.
It can not be worse than hearing the Region pound its chest every year. I figure that if you wish to put your team out there, be prepared to prove it, or prepared to hear about not living up to "potential."

Is there not an 8th team in this conference? Was there originally?
It doesn't seem to matter since it appears to be a two-team race. Even though, I am sure there are 5 other teams that will bring their boys on Saturday ready to compete.

Any results from this yet? No discussions either?

As a coach, I would encourage Mr. Littell to talk to Coach Schoettle. Kids' perception are often off base and far from reality. I understand this is how Brayden feels and it is very concerning. But in fairness to Coach, these discussions should be had in person, and not on a discussion board.
Sorry, Bluemonster...I had to give my two cents.
Back to topic..

They definitely got a nasty BIG 3 at 182,195,220
Forfeits happen, but it is hard to overcome at the state meet.
And those three (182, 195, 220) are dogs.

I wouldn't say the region has anything to be ashamed of. I think some schools have closed the gap, but region will still represent themselves well in February and next year.
Congrats to Brownsburg for back-to-back state titles!

What is a "man's weight"? SMH
I would say in D1 college wrestling - EVERY WEIGHT. (I know your question was rhetorical, but apparently someone is confusing the lower weights in HS with those in college)

Beech Grove was definitely impressive. I believe the Hornets may very well be on the right track to regain their old mystique.
Like back in the Coach McNamara days?
-
Could Beech Grove be making a comeback? I was really impressed with how they wrestled. Kids seemed really motivated. Congrats to Coach Schoettle. Perry was definitely the most conditioned team there. Them kids never stopped attacking.
Beech Grove has turned the program around quickly. Perry looks good from top to bottom. Hopefully they have enough studs to compete with #TheCounty and Portage next week.

Dexter Larimore comes to mind. Gelen Robinson was pretty dominate at both as well.
-
I thought the same thing...lol

Any results from the two teams?
-
My first impression is that there are too many hazy situations to deem takedowns as strictly offensive or defensive (counterattacks, scrambles that lead to re-shots by the "defensive" wrestler who wouldn't have had the opportunity without the opponent's aggression, etc.). It could be fun to add some other incentives, though, such as 3 points for the first takedown of the match if no one has scored after a minute.
What about the opposite? More points if the take down occurs in the first 30 seconds or minute. This will encourage more action in the beginning.
-
^^^ THAT is freakin hilarious.
-
I doubt Rypel has no need to go 220 if he will wrestle 197 in college. Kobe Woods is ranked 3rd in the nation for good reason. I believe Parris vs. Woods is the match at state everyone should want to see.
As far as these rankings, they make for great conversations and debate. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until February to see it all unfold and A LOT can happen before then.

I expected to see Phil Strader (PM) somewhere on this list.
-
I am normally just a casual observer and do not post much, but the topics and result posts have been sub-par this year. Have the intelligent fans just abandoned the site, or have we run out of new things to discuss? Also, the results page is missing so many matches. I realize not every coach believes the results are important to post, but this year it seems down - at least in central Indiana schools.
I hope there is something worth discussing as sectionals approaches.
-
I cannot believe ppl are on here complaining. The coaches association put the projected, best teams out there. Let's give them kudos for putting on the event. This was a great event and the champs were ALL clearly best. No one remembers 2nd place (or 3rd thru 8th) anyway.
Warren will be a force next year, but let's put that garbage to rest until then.
-
I am not arguing that Winfield may not be the best 285, but why would he be ranked higher than 4 state placers from last year?

I miss caliboy.

Coincidence that Avon and Brownsburg and EMD are all through there? No coincidence.
