  1. You get old and things are getting fuzzy but as a young guy it really made an impression on me. It was a great match over 27 years ago but let's keep that between us LOL. That was also a great match!
  2. It was the first time I went to state Scott Ellis hit a standing peterson to win by a point in the last ten seconds. 105 Scott Ellis, Warren Central 10 37-2 Paul Mayer, Lowell 12 29-4 score: 13-12 Lance can correct me my mind is slipping it left such an impression on a first year wrestler I made a promise I would not step into Market Square arena again unless I earned the right.
  3. Where do you see college wrestling in 20 years? "My optimistic outlook foresees the number of Division I programs staying around 85. I believe that we will continue to see a growth of programs at the Division II and Division III levels. It is my hope that the NCAA will eventually sanction a dual meet championship and that will help re-energize the regular season. If wrestling has a chance to reach a broader fan base it will be through the dual meet format" I copied Brad Traviolia's comments because as much as I love the individual part of wrestling I understand that the team aspect is what will cause more growth in wrestling. If we keep the individual tournament and add class in the team in my opinion you will see it have a greater impact on small communities. As I have stated before the small communities follow their local athletics much more then the large schools in many cases.
  4. Been off here a few days but I want to say it was great to see you guys having Brad on! What a great guy! I had the opportunity to go through the wrestling process with him he was a class act. I was also at the camp he was talking about I believe Silverman might have been on the trip with us and a trip it was. Heck made basic training seem like a walk in the park.
  5. Received the same note from my teacher's union. HB 1733 DOE control of athletics. Died on the calendar. We had been watching this one carefully. It would have given the DOE control of interscholastic athletics rather than the IHSAA. By what my union president stated I think the ISTA (Indiana State Teacher's Association) probably would have fought the passing of the bill.
  6. That is funny since Sharpe started out at Southport and left. Since he is a friend of my wife's family that was not the story that came to me.
  7. I agree that is is a weak argument to not have class argument but the IHSAA might bite they are all about the money. If the percentages of coaches don't want it OK I will play but I think the depth is hurt by not having it. Not in the kids as much as the coaches. People have to believe they have a chance to win. Brad Smith from Iowa a National Champ coaching at a small school why? He had a chance to win. Of course he worked hard and it paid off he is a much bigger school now but he won a ton of titles at that little school. We need a place for those young guys in college from IN to coach and not everyone will get to coach in college or a big school. If they think they can win it I believe our depth in this state would improve because better coaching leads to better wrestling. Nice site and thanks!
  8. The dreaded debate on class wrestling on flo wrestling: http://www.flowrestling.org/topics/view/94-state-tournaments-how-many-classes-should-there-be I found this interesting from the point on why many states feel that their currrent class system is in place. The money is the big issue. It makes more money to have more people wrestling at state because they hold them in the same place at the same time. Never really thought about it that way. Never really talked to you Y2 but I figured it would give you some new ammo and I enjoy the banter from others like the elder. Something else I found interesting was the link to the class dual meet format from North Carolina. Not a great wrestling state but the idea of a class team championship would be something many would go for. It would probably add more fans.
  9. Todd Weaver! Where ever he has been he puts kids on the mat at state. At CN succesful taking a Greensburg team from nowhere to somewhere. First season at Southport doing a great job.
  10. I don't mind adding the fourht palce finsher to the semi state. My thought is there are some regionals that have very loaded weigh classes and some that are not as strong. I heard this was bad idea to add third place winners back in 1986. It didn't hurt Lance lance from Wawasee he won the whole thing and a bad case of the flu and I ended up a disapointed third and won the semi state as well as placed third that year a hunderd years ago. The first round bye always had me sweating at the semi state as a coach. Of course we would all like to see wrestle-backs.
  11. At this time we lack depth I am not sure class wrestling will fix that. What I mean is after are top four or in some weights the top two everyone else are not in the same league. After being in charge of the IN IL dual I had several conversations with them and the guys felt like it helped their state. On the dual team level I think it would really help us build a solid fan base. People love a team and even though I love wrestling for the individuality after listening to coaches who have been to dual team state and the kids it seems they felt it was even more exciting. Class dual team state might be the answer because you have too many people who would not switch the individual format.
