  4. As I stated in my post, qualifiers for the NCAA's is different for each regional. Depending on how many All Americans came from the Midwest Regional last year determines how many wrestlers from each weight class will qualify this year. Apparently, the Midwest must not be taking two freom each weight class since Edwards is considered an alternate.
  5. On Saturday, February 21st, Division III Regionals took place. In the Midwest Conference, the following Indiana wrestlers placed. 125 - Brandon Harvey - Trine (Elkhart Memorial) - 5th 125- Jason Ray - Manchester (Union County) - 6th 133-Ty Bowman - Trine (Clinton Central) - 3rd 141-Jeremiah Edwards - Rose Hulman (Lawrence North) - 2nd ( alternate) 141-Bryan Wight - Trine (Homestead) - 4th 141-Samuel Carsey- Manchester (Linden) - 8th 149- Kyle Pittman - Trine (Greensburg) - 7th 149- Jared Tribbett- Wabash (Crawfordsville) - 6th 157-George Markou - Trine (Peru) - 5th 165-Tyler Goble - Rose Hulman (Bloomington South) - Champion 165-Kyle Long - Trine (South Bend Washington) - 2nd 165-Robert Beeler - Wabash (Knightstown) - 6th 174-Nick Kraus - Trine (New Prairie) - 3rd (alternate) 174 Kyle Carsley - Manchester (Homestead) - 8th 197- Michale Burke - Wabash (Yorktown) - 2nd 197-Greg Williams - Rose Hulman (Bonneville) - 8th 197 - Jordan Cox - Manchester (Carmel) - 7th 285- Spencer Fulk - Manchester (Carroll) - 2nd 285-Steve Durham - Rose Hulman (Richmond) - 8th If I missed anyone, please add to the list. The number of wrestlers from each weight class qualifying for the NCAA Division III Nationals is determined by how many All Americans there were from that regional the previous year. I'm not sure how many wrestlers from each weight class qualify for the NCAA Division III Nationals. Maybe someone can let us know. Great Lakes Regional - Top two in each weight class are automatically qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Nationals on March 6-7 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 125 - Jimmy Schoettle - University of Chicago (Perry Meridian) - 6th
  6. I just spoke to Sharon Dowden in the ISWA office today and she told me that Rex had announced there would be placement to 6th. We didn't knw this when the trackwrestling program was set up so that is why track wrestling was not programmed to place out to 6th. Sharon and her husband Mike have been busy working on the brackets by hand and placing 5th and 6th in all of the weight classes. The results will be sent to Rex along with addresses to send the medals or ribbons. Sharon is also talking with the Team Leader for the trip to make sure they have the correct wrestlers for 2nd and 3rd place. Nice to meet another Italian on the board.
  7. Since Middle School State was a qualifier for the Middle School Duals team, placement was only going to 4th place, so true seconds matches could be wrestled. No other placments were given. I worked in pairings all day and the program was not set up to place anyone past the two pools meeting for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th. In the two upper weights where there weren't pools, placement only went to 3rd. If placement after 4th was going to be noted, there would have been many special bouts to determine who would be wrestling for 5th/6th. ISWA was trying to get the information out to the public quickly, not realizing that the true second matches were not noted on track wrestling. As soon as that information is available, ISWA will have accurate records on their website. If I recall from last year, team results took almost a week to be announced. Hang in there everyone. Working on the inside, it was a fun tournament to be a part of. There was a lot of exciting wrestling and the exciting wrestling couldn't happen without great coaches.
  8. The tournament director decided to use vertical pairings with pools for this tournament. I believe that just like at the Elementary Qualifier where two weight classes used pools, once the pools meet together, the 3rd place wrestler will be able to wrestle the 2nd place wrestler if they haven't wrestled yet.

  11. Obviously some of the parents with concerns do not have high school kids that wrestle. Welcome to the sport of wrestling! As your kids move into high school, you will have these same concerns when you start analyzing regional and semi-state tournaments. If you look on the high school discussion board, there are wrestling fans having similar discussions; i.e. north is stronger than south, this region is weaker, that semi-state has a bunny walk, we need class wrestling, etc. If you didn't pool 25+ kids, you would be at the tournament a very long time. USA pairing guidelines state that when you get over 22 wrestlers in a weight class you must pool the bracket. Pooling the brackets is a normal occurrance at the national level. Who knew over 500 kids were going to register. Talk on the board was that the tournament would be lucky to draw 300. As wrestler60160 says: It is time to step up and face the challenge! Good luck to everyone.
  12. One of the issues we had last year was that a wrestler would register with Track Wrestling and then come on Sunday morning and register again. With online registration only, this problem of double registering is eliminated and the brackets are set before the tournament begins. As Rex says, the wrestlers will all weigh-in first round.
  13. I am not real familiar with this topic but is that a stated IHSAA position with respect to seeding wrestling? Just trying to educate myself.

  16. Watching these two teams wrestle this year, I would have to say that this match-up is really the finals match. Unfortunately, they are in the same bracket this year. Whoever wins out in this bracket, will go all the way! It's unfortunate that #1, #2, and #3 are in the same bracket.
  17. At Middle School State the wrestlers can weigh up to 107 for the 102lb weight class, but for the Middle School National Duals in Illinois the wrestlers have to weigh 102lbs.
  18. Remember that at ISWA Folkstyle State, Schoolboys wrestle on Sunday not Saturday. The middle school wrestlers would weigh-in at their regional site on the Thursday prior to the tournament and then check in Saturday night up in Huntington. The only middle school wrestlers that are affected this year are the middle school wrestlers that are Cadets.
  19. Center Grove Central 32 Franklin 79 Winners for Center Grove Central were: Michael Thomas, Anthony Schoettle, Dalton Wheeler, Logan Hutson, Dillon Dallas, James Anderson, and Drew Ponder.
  20. Nick you sound like a very bright young man. I hope some of the boys are reading this and taking notice. Wrestling D I has become more of a status symbol and many wrestlers are being drawn to DI schools under the illusion they will be the varsity guy in a couple of years and of course it often times does not happen. You are right on target with education should be your first consideration. Injury and burnout due to the gruelling and brutal style of wrestling at any college level often ends your wrestling career before your education is complete. I also urge young wrestlers to view the D III video on Wresling 411.com(Wartburg vs Augsburg)
  21. D II and DIII programs are are very strong and growing stronger as the pool of talent across the country continues to improve and grow in numbers. Many of these athletes left D I programs for the greener pastures of D II and D III. Also many of the D II and D III schools offer unique educational opportunities you may not find at some D I schools.

  24. It was close to 11:00pm. I was there also. With the new registration process in place, once weigh-ins are over, the wrestlers that didn't make weight or didn't show up can be deleted and brackets can be created. Bouts can be printed and the tournament can begin. The pairings room is looking to finish up much sooner than 11:00pm this year. We know this will make Rex happy too.
