  4. I was also very disappointed in the number of Indiana Cadet & Junior wrestlers participating in the regionals. Ohio and Illinois both had a greater numbers than Indiana, followed by Michigan and Georgia. From memory, wrestlers from other states included: Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oregon, Washington, New York, Connecticut, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina and West Virginia. It was a great opportunity for our wrestlers to experience some quality competition, prior to Fargo. Sadly, many of our best, some who live within spitting distance of the venue, were not there. Next year the tournament moves to Michigan.
  5. ON-SITE REGISTRATION (Cash or Check): You do not have to pre-register for the Central Regionals on trackwrestling. Walk-in registrations will be accepted tonight for all age divisions. 14. 15. AJ is correct. The fairground prices kept rising while attendance was falling. The biggest hit was that ISWA was forced to use their exclusive vendor for all food for hospitality @ $8000.00 for the week-end . The last 2 years (2009 & 2010) the ISWA realized little to no profit from the event.
  16. Ike Anderson, USA Wrestling National Developmental Coach for Greco-Roman will be at ISWA Greco-Roman State Finals to offer a clinic for all Wrestlers & Coaches on Saturday morning at Lawrence North High School, 7802 Hague Road, Indianapolis IN -- Time - 8:00 to 8:45 am Coach Anderson will remain on-site to meet and greet athletes and coaches throughout the day.
  17. I think the number one reason for registering at the last minute is because you are required to pay the entry fee when you register. I think many parents want to make sure their child can particiapte before paying. In regard to Juniors, they seem to have the greatest difficulty with the pre-registration process. While working registration at Folkstyle State...90% of all problems were with the Junior age division. They forgot. They registered but did not complete the payment portion of the process. They thought their coach was going to do it....etc. So coaches and parents..please remind your older wrestlers that this year all wrestlers must pre-register and pay for Greco and freestyle State or pay double the entry fee. REMINDER: JUNIORS MUST WEIGH-IN ON FRIDAY NIGHT FOR GRECO....NO SATURDAY MORNING WEIGH-INS JUNIORS MUST WEIGH-IN ON SATURDAY NIGHT FOR FREESTYLE...NO SUNDAY MORNING WEIGH-INS
  18. I understand the dilemma regarding Folkstyle vs Freestyle & Greco. There are those who say the ISWA is a FS & GR organization This is simply not the case. The ISWA exists to offer an organized program for wrestling in the state of Indiana, whatever style(s) that may be. There have been many long discussions regarding the style of wrestling and length of the seasons at ISWA board meetings. A history on off-season wrestling in Indiana.....When the ISWA started a program for off-season wrestling in 1978, the IHSAA agreed to allow the program to exist provided they offer a FS & GR wrestling only..not Folkstyle. They deemed that Folkstyle (high school style) wrestling would be a violation and jeopardize eligibility and therefore they would not allow it in the schools. This continued to be their position for many years. I think it was when Blake Ress became commissioner that the IHSAA began to relax their position and said that as long as the high school wrestlers did not participate until they were eliminated from high school competition and as long as they participated as an individual or a member of a club and not a high school team, the ISWA could offer Folkstyle. The ISWA exists to offer a structured program for wrestling in Indiana. The goal is to improve wrestling...period. Some questions are: Do we want to do away with FS & GR? I know from speaking with many Cadets & Juniors that they look forward to these styles because they enjoy something different and for those who want to showcase their talent, Fargo is still a big hit with college recruiters. Should we do away with FS & GR for the younger wrestlers, especially pee-wee and bantams? The season is awfully long for little guys when they participate in all styles. Should we shorten the FS & GR season even more? These are just a few of many questions on the table. The bottom line is the ISWA wants to give the wrestling community what they want. The problem is trying to determine exactly what that is.

  22. Yes, as I mentioned before, it was originally scheduled to be a 2 day event but Ben Davis decided that no one would be allowed to use their facility on Sundays. That left the ISWA with little choice but to hold the event all on one day. In 2012, the event will held on both Saturday and Sunday.
  23. What you say is true.....but, when faced with the decision, it is difficult to remove someone from the tournament and deny them the opportunity to wrestle. It may be hard to beleive but Juniors seem to have the greatest number of problems when it comes to state tournaments. I had Juniors who forgot to pre-register, didn't think they had to pay when registering, forgot their card, thought their coach would register for them, etc. I think it is because they are transitioning into adulthood and parents are not overseeing everything they do.
  24. Jeff McClurg, ISWA Team Leader Director is in charge of team competition. He is the one who sends me the results to post. He would be the one to answer your questions.
