  1. Anderson has lost to NCC schools in the sectional/regional the past years.. Back when we were really really good we were the cream of our conference and probably would not have lost to those schools in the post season.. Even back then we had 3-4 schools that were the same size as Anderson in our Sectional, followed by other schools our size in our regional.. I dont think we dominated because we were playing small schools in the first round of sectionals, i think we dominated because we had really really good teams.. Nationally ranked teams..
  2. Actually I really do not know if it has helped the basketball teams around indiana get better.. The high school i graduated from (Anderson) still beats the small schools by 30-50 points.. The small schools may win state and we (Anderson) may get to regional, but we still blow the small schools out.. So has the players got much better? Probably not.. I would venture to think that they have gotten worse.. Anderson is nowhere close to how good as we were when there was no class basketball, but we still blow out the small school regularly.. Just giving you an example that I am familiar with
  3. Success is good.. But im just pointing out that HAVING success is not going to ensure that more kids will come out for your team, and that is even at the big schools as well..
  4. Just giving you my bread and butter example Y2 lol.. : ;D we should have 50-60 kids in our room since we have had success and exposure from having kids at state and placing the past 3-4 years.. But just like alot of other big schools and small schools, our numbers are down..
  5. Weight classes even the playing field... I coach at a 5A school that has had success and just qualified 3 to state and our numbers are down just like most of the schools in Indiana.. Small schools arent the only schools lacking numbers.. Talked to another Big school coach that had multiple kids down at Semi-State and he said the same thing (that their numbers were down under 20).. It is a struggle for all schools.. Not just the small ones..
  6. Silence Dogood I think you make a great point that is hard to argue against.. I agree with ya.. Its all about probability and youth programs.. There are not a lot of kids that show up for the first time in the 9th grade to wrestle who end up winning/placing/participating at state.. We got three kids through to state this year and each one started wrestling way back in their elementary days.. Our kids qualifying for state had nothing to do with the size of our high school..
  7. My one question is how will class wrestling ensure that each team will get more kids to come out for wrestling?
  8. Nelson/Kieffer was something like 3-2 Eppert/Wright was 7-4.. Another really good match.. Eppert was winning 4-3 with just under a minute left in the match.. Wright caught Eppert taking a shot and got takedown and two back points with around 30 seconds remaining.. Eppert goes for reversal and wright fights it off for the remaining 10 seconds.. Good Match
  9. My point is that they build their wrestlers from their youth program.. Get your youth program strong and you will have some great wrestlers in your high school program in time.. Not directed at your program because i know that you guys at garrett are building a very strong youth wrestling and high school program. Youth program is more important than your high school program..
  10. I'm glad to see some fellow Anderson Indian Alums here.. AHS class of 2002.. Mr. Lamb was one of the nicest and most loyal wrestling fan that I have ever met.. He was at almost every wrestling event from the elementary to high school level.. I will miss talking to Mr. Lamb at our wrestling events.. He supported every wrestling program in our area.. Great friend that I and many others in our community will miss dearly..
  11. It is all about your youth wrestling program.. If you can build a strong youth program that has kids year in and year out, your high school team will be fine regardless of school size... EMD and dont say they recruit because I have been around the sport of wrestling for YEARS and it seems that I see the same Last Names of the kids from EMD as the ones from decades in the past. Their youth program is good year in and year out.. The stronger your youth program is and the ability to keep those kids wrestling thru Elementary and Middle school will make your High School program very very solid. The three kids that we have left wrestling in Semi-State all have been wrestling since their elementary days.. The size of our high school had nothing to do with them being good.. They are good because they live wrestling everyday of their lives, and it started at the youth program.. Not the day that they walked into our wrestling room doors their freshmen year of High School..
  12. I know of a couple 5A teams that can fit in that room..
  13. You are right.. Class wrestling will not help the 4-5A schools that struggle to field a full team even after that team has had much success.. I just hope that all the Class wrestling supporters understand that they (Small Schools) are not the only ones struggling to field a full team.. Big schools have obstacles as well which is the reason that I have always and will always be a NON-class wrestling supporter.. Many big schools have the same chance or lack there of to win a team state championship as small schools for one reason or another..
  14. Yeah, somewhere around that number 55-65%.. All i am saying is, there are big school that have problems fielding an entire team as well.. We may have more students, but we still have hurdles as well to jump over in order to get kids out.. Add to the fact that I coach in an area where sitting the bench or being on the JV basketball team is better than being a stud at another sport, It is a struggle to get kids out for wrestling at even the 5A schools.. I know of many other 5A schools that have the same problems that we are facing at this point.. What is there to do to help those schools out?
  15. LOL its all fun and games Y2, you guys sucked me back into this conversation ;D .. Do we get to drop to the small school division since we have like a 50 something % graduation rate? You are right that we have some really really good athletes walking the halls doing nothing, but does it matter when they aren't academically eligible anyway.. That is not something that we can control too well.. Should a school possibly get to drop a class based on how many boys on average are academically eligible to play school sports? This is actually a serious question.. I am just wondering what you think about that aspect of the debate.
  16. Y2 i am still wondering why we can't get more than 20 kids out for wrestling at my 5A school that I coach at.. We have great coaches, somewhat successful in the past years, and we are a 5A school.. Why are we (and many many other 5A schools) having such problems getting kids to come out for wrestling?
  17. Y2 we are struggling with the same problem as you.. We even have had some minor/major success in the past years (State-Champion, 2 State-runners up, Team Sectional Championship, Multiple County Championships) and we are a 5A school.. Trust me, it is not just the small schools that find it hard to get kids out for wrestling now of days.. ;D ...
  18. LOL that is not true at all.. But funny thing is that Lapel had almost the same amount of wrestlers this year as we do/did..
  19. Nope I am NOT getting back into this argument.. We had our annual "Class Wrestling" conversation at Fargo this past summer... My stance has not changed ;D
  20. 1st period Gray takedown at end of period.. 2-0 2nd period Gray escape.. 3-0 3rd period Berryman reversal (stays on top no turn) 3-2 Final Gray
  21. Eppert vs. Wright was 11-7 (Good match with alot of Scrambles) Eppert vs. Cosby was 11-4
  22. 5-4.. Mcginley with a reversal with 3 seconds remaining in the match..
  23. Is it possible to get the IHSAA to allow flowrestling to tape and post our state championships online?? Flowrestling attempted to cover the State tournament last year, but was only allowed to post interviews.. Flowrestling is the best way to show the talent that we have here in Indiana to the rest of the country.. It may be too late, but is there anyway that we can convince the IHSAA to allow flowrestling to cover our State Finals???
  24. Yeah Whitaker did a real intense warm up.. Then wrestled his first match with a taped wrist/hand.. He must have injured the wrist/hand at a previous match or practice.. When it was time to wrestle Sam, Whitaker was all the sudden in street clothes on the sideline.. Was a big disappointment because Sam wrestled 152 at conference just to wrestle Whitaker and to make our dual line up stronger.. But i guess Whitaker was protecting his hand/wrist from any further injury..
