  1. Coaches - The Indiana Renegades are looking for wrestlers to fill out our teams. currently we are looking for wrestlers interested in wrestling the following weight classes- 126 195 285 we ask that you be a semi-state or state "caliber wrestler" There is a cost to be involved. You will get a 5 pound allowance and you will have to miss 2 days of school. Dates are April 10-12 and event is at Wabash College. NO SENIORS....this event is for current frosh-juniors only. Email if you have interest. (eisports@sigecom.net) Be sure to include what school you attend and as much detail on your career that you can include. We look forward to hearing from you. The Renegades are not affiliated with the IHSWCA teams or the IndianaMat team and are not interested in the bickering that is going on between them. Our goal is to provide wrestlers who did not qualify for the IHSWCA teams the opportunity to compete in this outstanding event. Lets all hope this isnt the last year for it. Check back for more updates as we have spots open.
  2. I will say it AGAIN. It seems people forget this. Every single year of the IHSAA Team State, the event was based on a "tournament" based team qualifier since the teams that advanced were the Sectional Champs and runner ups. So every single dual meet state title ever won in the state if Indiana was by a team that qualified in a tournament qualification system. flawed or not...we have no other way of doing it.
  3. very proud of my son - Nolan Schaefer - Coach Jeff Schaefer Evansville Memorial
  4. Coaches- The Indiana Renegades will again be entering two teams into the NWCA Scholastic Duals which take place April 10-12 in Crawfordsville at Wabash College. The goal of the Renegades teams is to serve as an option for those wrestlers who just miss out on the opportunity to qualify for and make the Indiana Blue and Gold teams that are sponsored by the IHSWCA. The team is put together by a committee of coaches around the state and we have "representatives" on the coaching and selection staff from northern, central, and southern Indiana. In the past one could consider the Renengades a "farm team" per say to the IHSWCA teams. The coaches who volunteer time to coach the IHSWCA teams would bring kids to the event from their own programs who may not have made the IHSWCA teams and the Renegades gave them an opportunity to get their own kids some national level competition right here in our own back yard. That is not so much the case anymore, but that concept is why the Renegades were born. Who's eligible and What kind of kids are we looking for? 1. We will NOT...I repeat will NOT ask any wrestler that qualifies for the IHSWCA Sponsored teams. We are not here to take wrestlers from those teams and we think it is important that the IHSWCA teams get the best possible kids they can get to compete and represent our state in this event. (the two highest placing non seniors in the IHSAA State Finals qualify for those teams.) 2. We will try to put the best team possible together. For instance, Many times the IHSWCA teams will have State Placers on the rosters and we would have State Qualifiers. The Renegades LOVE to give state qualifiers who don't qualify for the IHSWCA teams the chance to wrestle in this event. We usually have a mix of State and Semi State level guys and are usually very competitive. Usually we finish in the 7-12 place area of the tournament and beat several "state" teams from other states. 3. This is the most important part. We want good people. We want good wrestlers, and we want to compete well, I will even say yes we want to win!! BUT...I would rather take a great kid from a great family that is a semi state first round loser than a state qualifier who is going to be a risk of tearing up a locker room, a hotel room or causing the Renegade coaches drama. Coaches...you know your kids, you know if your kid fits this bill or not. 4. Team members need to be able to compete at this level. Make no mistake, this is a "national level" event with state all star teams coming in full of hammers. I have seen more than a few kids make this trip and get humiliated for 2 days by not being able to compete. Be careful what you wish for. Some wrestlers are not ready for this. Cost- I am not going to put the cost to be a Renegade out to the public yet so that I do not take anything away from other teams that are trying to be formed. What I will say that it is extremely affordable. The cost includes the tournament entry fee, a singlet, shorts, and a tee shirt. All other items...such as hotel, USA Wrestling Cards, Meals, etc etc are on the wrestlers. We will have a team hotel but the housing is not part of the package. The hotel will simply serve as a place to stay if team members wish to book rooms and stay there. I want to add that the Indiana Renegades are not affiliated with the IHSWCA teams in anyway. We are an alternative to those who dont qualify for those teams. We are also looking for high school coaches who are willing to make the weekend trip and help coach our teams. We like to have have a head coach and two assistants per team. Any questions on becoming a team member or coaching a team can be emailed to me at eisports@sigecom.net thanks and good luck to all wrestlers in the final two weeks of the season!! Good luck to all past Renegades especially!!! Renegades Ride!!!!!
  5. I think the IHSWCA would concede that a tournament team and a dual meet team are two different things. I also think that once again they are doing what they can with what they have and the sectional is a consistent starting point for all teams so makes the best sense for a starting place for a qualifying system. The IHSAA did it that way forever also. The sectional champions,in an individual scoring system, qualified for the team regional which was an entirely different format. Once again, your not wrong. I just don't know if there is a better way of doing it.
  6. It seems that some people continue to forget that the IHSWCA State Duals are not a perfect animal but they are what we can have at this time based on IHSAA limitations etc etc. 1. we cannot have the event after individual state. 2. we cannot have a multiple week tournament series. 3. we cannot have a waiver to allow more weigh ins (scheduling points) for teams. We have to have a single day event and do the best we can to get the most deserving teams invited. That can only happen by having some type if a qualifying system in place. Whether its right or wrong, there is a system and you do control your own destiny. If your team wrestles well on the mat you can qualify. If your team does not wrestle well you do not qualify. Either way, I would rather have this system than a system that includes coaches polls (popularity contests), media polls (very few media outlets cover our sport very well), and any other type of "poll". I will use our team at Evansville Memorial as an example. The first year of the event we qualified and wrestled to a 2nd place finish losing to a tough Yorktown team in the finals. Danville was clearly better than us but we got a good "seed" and we won a dual against a great Southmont team and then squeaked by Culver Academy in a tremendous semifinal. It was a HUGE day for our program. We were very excited. We were also young. We were sitting pretty to qualify again this year but then the sectional day arrived. We had 3 underclassmen wrestle very poorly and we did not perform anywhere near what we were capable of. We scored enough to make the "at large voting" list but we were not voted in. Did I think the committee made a mistake not voting us in? Yes. Do I think we would have placed high this year in the 2A team duals had we been voted in? Yes. However, I also don't have a problem with us not being there because the fact of the matter is that we did not wrestle ourselves into the event based on the system that is in place and we put our fate in the hands of others. The qualifying system we have in place is not perfect but its had a TON of thought put into it. Its been tweaked here and there and its pretty thorough. Can a team get left out due to weird little quirky stuff like having 9 seniors in their lineup? Yes...and yes that stinks, but that team qualified this year didn't they? In the end its about getting 12 "deserving" teams to the event. Unfortunately there could be more than 12 deserving teams, just like in college football where there will be more than 4 deserving teams to get into the championship event next season. Whether its fair or not, whether it has loopholes or not, you still qualify by how your team performs on the mat and I would rather have that than something else. As a coach I know going in what my team has to do to qualify. We can discuss that, we can make sure our team knows what its going to take to qualify and if the chips are stacked against us because we are senior laden or not. Not everyone gets to qualify every year...some years your chances are better than others. Its not perfect but its what we got and its 1000 times better than nothing. lastly....one silver lining...look how many new teams wrestled in the event in 2A and 1A this year versus the first year??? Already this event has given 20-30 teams who would have NEVER made the IHSAA Team State the chance to be in a great event that I wish all coaches and wrestlers could experience at least once. The IHSWCA State Duals is a great event and I thank the coaches association for putting in the hard work to make it a reality each year.
  7. not an internet tough guy...just a coach who has been around longer than I care to admit and know that these kids need as few disadvantages as they can get beginning this weekend. We don't need a target on one of our kids backs and you were doing a great job of putting one there. Believe me, the kid knows he is in for a dog fight this weekend and knows everyone will be gunning for him. enough said.
  8. ok...Im not the smartest guy in the world but Im not a total dummy. (some would argue that I know) Can somebody put item B below into a simple example for me please? B. Teams’ scores will be adjusted downward according to their ability to maintain the current season’s quality level next year. The following values will be subtracted from all teams according to their given class: 1A: 1.74*(number of seniors)^2 + 1.0*(number of underclassmen)^2 2A: 0.6*(number of seniors)^2 + 0.72*(number of underclassmen)^2 3A: 0.58*(number of seniors)^2 + 0.47*(number of underclassmen)^2
  9. and you know what those past matches mean this weekend??....not a *%#@ thing!! So why put a target on his back? Seems to me the better way would be to sit back, shut up, and see what happens. But hey, its all good, if you want to give his opposition bulletin board material....you have succeeded and I'm sure Chance thanks you! hmmmm 2 posts...sounds like you may be a relative. I hope not.
  10. huh? Memorial didn't even qualify for the event this year in 2A.
  11. VERY VERY slippery slope. Be careful. The numbers fall where they fall. Some win, some lose. Life isn't always fair...but at least you have concrete guidelines that everyone can turn to and say you stayed consistent.

  13. Great Night Last Night. I want to thank Castle and their coaching staff for allowing this event to be moved to their school after being postponed on Tuesday. What a fantastic atmosphere for the wrestlers to get to compete in and all the while doing everything for a great cause. Thanks to the parents, fans, and other wrestling supporters (Jon H in particular) for coming out and watching. The crowd was great. Standing Room Only is always nice! Good Luck to both teams in the upcoming State Tournament! Jeff Schaefer Asst Coach - Evansville Memorial HS

  19. No other reason than that the coaching staffs of these two programs got together and decided to do it. Yes, your right, it would be great if all teams would do this. We have a larger goal in mind but need to get this event rolling first and then see if the other is possible.

Castle went 5-0. Due to weather we had uneven amount of teams so we could not wrestle out to a team champion. Congrats to the Castle Knights on a good day. Castle vs Memorial in two weeks on joint effort Military Appreciation Night. Both teams in special edition camo singlets. Winner of that dual will be named 2014 Tiger Duals Champions.
  22. I didn't realize private schools dominated our sport?? Football maybe, but not wrestling. Mater Dei must "back". It took less than 24 hours for recruiting implications to show up. Ridiculous!
  23. I'm really biased but he has a pretty good workout partner / coach. Well done Coach Powless!
