  6. 197 - Matt Powless - Indiana Univ. NCAA All American Top 5 in wins in IU History Big Ten Scholar Athlete all 4 years. Only wrestler to every win the Spirit Of Indiana award at IU.
  7. The Indiana Renegades teams are being formed and we may (or may not) need some wrestlers to fill out or roster. We will know in the next couple of days as we get answers from some invitees on whether they are going to take positions or not. Event dates are April 9-11 at Wabash College. This is for current 9-11 graders only. No Seniors. This is a pretty high level event that would include each wrestler getting 7 (or more) matches, in dual meet format, that will be at semis state and state level competition. Our cost to compete is only $105.00 and that includes entry fee, singlet, shorts, and tee shirt. USA cards, meals, and housing are not included in our package (but we do have a hotel block reserved at discounted rates) Right now we may need wrestlers at 132, 160, and 285. If you have a wrestler who you would like to be considered, please send me an email at eisports@sigecom.net, with his "resume" (be sure to include how he did in the state tournament this year) and I will get his name into consideration IF the invites that we currently have out are not accepted. The higher your wrestler advanced in the IHSAA State Tournament, the more likely he is to be chosen. Thanks
  8. Gold team would be Cummings Hildebrandt Hudkins Red Lee Lee Covaciu Dunn Hughes Jones Paris Rypel Woods Streck 9 state champs and 3 runner ups!
  9. This years IHSWCA Indiana Teams could be the best we have ever assembled. Here's hoping that all of the eligible wrestlers can make the commitment to represent our State. I hope I get to see that team at full strength against the best Illinois and Minnesota (and anybody else) can bring to Crawfordsville in April. Talk about a murderers row!
  10. Evansville Memorial - 32 x 32 mat stuffed in a classroom coverted to a wrestling room. 30-35 wrestlers in a normal year. We practice in shifts. Hopefully that will change in the next 12 months....fingers crossed.
  11. They could put down 8 mats . The NCAA puts down 8 every year. Its tight on the floor but its not an issue. It would add to an already amazing night to put 32 in each bracket. They could run 8 mats Friday night and Saturday morning, eliminating wrestlers in rounds of 32 and 16 and keep same timetable. Anybody who has seen the NCAA's live can tell you its an unreal experience for wrestling fans. The round of 8 on the 4 center mats is ridiculous! I would say attendance would not double but it would be better for sure. since they are never gonna give us wrestle backs maybe this would be something new for the IHSWCA to start asking for?? Although this would fall on deaf ears also. The IHSAA does not understand our sport and does not care to understand our sport.
  12. In a dream world it would be like the KY state finals. Modeled EXACTLY after the NCAA's if I am correct. 3 day event, 32 wrestlers, 6 sessions...a true celebration of our sport and the hard working athletes that we all respect so much. But that would never fly. I have wondered if the arena could hold 8 mats though? like the NCAA's do in very simillar arenas. If we could have 8 mats then we could expand the field and not use anymore time. Pie in the sky dreams. The IHSAA would never be interested in putting that much effort and thought into whats best for the kids.
  13. my 25th consecutive this year. First year in awhile that I won't have a floor pass. Gotta start a new streak next year.
  14. I see both sides of this argument but I also know that there are some younger officials who are very good and will be helped by this system. These guys sometimes get frustrated by not being able to climb the ladder as quickly as they should. I will also add, although very delicately, that some of the supposed best officials in the state that "will be sitting at home" the next two weekends may have slipped a little over the years and may not be as good as they would like to think they are. As long as we have ENOUGH officials, I think a system like this is a good compromise.
  15. Jon H - thanks for letting us know about the paper misprint and thanks for attending in previous years even though you back a certain blue and grey school that sits on a hill. We hope everyone comes out tonight to watch and give to a good cause. The coaching staffs at Castle and Memorial feel very strongly about this event and the need to do something like this each year. We hope that tonight is a successful night. So many people take for granted the freedom that we all have. We all need to be more aware of the sacrifices that are made to provide that freedom.
