  1. Chalfant is a savage. If his conditioning peaks in March, he could beat anybody.
  2. With Duca and Raley in the lineup it would have been a lot closer I think.
  3. Notes from IU vs Northwestern 157 Walsh looks really confident but he isn't going to be able to be as defensively lazy in the neutral position at BIG10's or NCAA's and expect to AA. 165 Leblanc does not control ties well and is not a good handfighter. He seems to have a great deal of potential but doesn't wrestle with any kind of intensity. 174 Jackson is talented and slick but can't handle the weight class. He was easily overpowered by Munster. He creates good action with his movement but just can't finish due to being overpowered. 184 Sheridan hits a lot of straight on shots. He's OK in the ties but does not create action or angles very well which seems to be a theme for the entire team. He rode out Berkowitz in the 2nd period but never threatened to turn him. Quick reversal off bottom then gave up a reversal with sloppy leg riding. 197 Goldman hits nice high single but can't finish. Then he basically turned his back in an under/over and gave up the TD. Looks like he may be nursing the shoulder. Polizzi dominated on top with a high thigh ride and turned him twice in the 2nd. Then he gave up an easy reversal in the first 10 seconds of the 3rd. Same high thigh ride and got turned and teched. Got beat up and outwrestled by Polizzi. 285 Chalfant is a savage. He moves well and moves his opponents well for a heavyweight. Nice double. nice lift for backs, nice scrambling. Seemed to gas a little late in the 2nd. Chose down in the 3rd. McMullan cuts and Chalfant went right to another nice double and finished. Nice sweep single but can't finish. Solid win and a good statement match to start the BIG10 season. More production and effort from the heavyweight than Sheridan and LeBlanc combined. 125 Duca hurt his knee warming up? Couldn't have wrestled Shepherd or someone else? Forfeit puts NW up 17-12 133 Caton hit a nice go behind for the TD to start the 1st then gives up and easy escape. Seems a little flat footed. Get's taken down and hammered for the rest of the 1st. Malone chose down and got right to his feet and out. Caton hangs in the ties and wrestles flat footed and get's easily and repeatedly taken down by Malone. Chooses down and get's hammered again barely ever getting a knee up. Caton is a gamer and I think will eventually be a solid starer but he got owned by Malone. 141 No Raley to start the BIG10 season? Springer gets the nod. He flashed some talent but he's not ready for the BIG10 yet. I think this kid could be really good in a couple years. Having Weaver, Springer, Schafer and Raley going at it every day is a good situation for the next few years. 149 Roach moves and handfights well but gives up the TD. Tsirtsis kept him flat, legged him and hooked up a bar. 2-0 with RT after 1st. Tsirtsis chose down got away quick and hit a nice redip HC for another TD. Roach does a good job working angles but gives up another TD to end the 2nd. Roach chose down to start 3rd and got the escape, but Tsirtsis poured it on taking him down again and turning him with a turk. Roach came close to a TD with a nice reshot but couldn't finish. Tsirtsis too much for him 17-4 major. NW 27 IU 12
  4. Current nationally ranked IU commits: 138 #14 Cole Weaver - Hudson Michigan 152 #3 Jacob Danishek - Dayton Christian Ohio 182 #16 Logan Marcicki - Detroit CC Michigan 220 #11 Fletcher Miller - Kokomo IN Questions: Where does Weaver fit in? Does Danishek redshirt behind Walsh his senior year? Does Marcicki redshirt behind Sheridan? or does Sheridan take a redshirt next year? or both and load up while starting Dale/Masengale? Does Miller plan to wrestle hwt for IU or can he make 197? Can Miller beat Goldman? Unrelated: Who does Chalfant roll with now?
  5. This would basically cause very match to be won with one TD. Takedown >>> Stall ride >>> choose down >>> stall on bottom for the win or get kicked loose and roller skate for the 3-0 win or stall then give up late TD for 3-2 win. Fans would hate this for at least one reason; refs would inevitably throw some otherwise whack stall calls in the second to give the guy trailing a chance to tie with a TD. This already happens with the current match format. If we changed to 3-2, you'd be manufacturing that situation in every tight match.

  7. 1-2-2 would make the first period virtually meaningless and you'd see the first points scored in matches on the escape in the second. I think a case could easily be made that this format would lead to even more stalling/strategy and make it even easier for lesser opponents to keep it close. I'm one of those guys who think HS should use the same rules as the NCAA does 3-2-2, riding time, OOB, so take it for what it's worth.
  8. Paul Petrov (Bucknell) has Josh Martinez from Air Force tomorrow morning in the quarter finals. Matchup breakdown: http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/251121-Southern-Scuffle-2014/article/24021-Southern-Scuffle-Updates
  9. Raley made a very impressive run. The word I got from non-Indiana people was "poised."
