1. Word from my son (who was team mate with Duck and Cody) is that Cody broke his collar bone out in PA. And that Atwood beat Duck.
2. My biased vote goes to Cody Phillips. Pretty well dominated all the way through to a finals pin.
3. Union County is the smallest county in the state of Indiana and barely makes 2A status. And I think if you ask either Michael or Cody (or any of the guys on the team) they would never dream of wrestling for a class state championship.
4. I am bustin!! Couldn't be any prouder if they were my own. Special congrats to Big Duck and Dolly. You have a wonderful son and we are all very happy/ proud and whatever other adjective you want to put with it. Union County is proud of its 2 STATE CHAMPS. Congrats to Cody as well (Can you say 4 time state champ?)
5. Hate to brag, but I said it back when UC wrestled Winchester that we were watching 3 state Champs. Way to GO BOYS. Congrats to Cody, Michael and Adam. The whole TEC is proud of you.
6. Good Luck to Michael Duckworth and Cody Phillips of Union County. Bring it home boys!!!
7. So your saying he should make it to the NFL! Don't think I mentioned that anywhere in my post. Just saying that the Tri Eastern Conference will be glad to not have to go up against Chalfant in football next year. He is a real banger on the gridiron.
8. I have had the pleasure of watching Adam wrestle 5 or 6 times. He never fails to impress. The kid is physically imposing and is all business on the mat. The one thing that impresses me the most is after every pin (which is most of the time), Chalfant extends a helping hand to raise his opponent off the mat and gives a sportsmanlike tap on the back to each one. As far as football, he is a tough load to tackle from his fullback position and is Butkus like from his middle linebacker position. As a parent from a team that has to play Winchester every year, I for one am glad to see him graduate and wish him the best at the next level.
9. I don't think we should question whether any of these boys has what it takes to win. Don't you feel that they would not even be going to Indy if they didn't. I don't think luck of the draw can get you to Indy. Duck showed everyone last year in his run to the finals that he has the technical ability, strength and mindset to go all the way. In this 171 class this year, you will need a break or two to go your way, but I'd have to say that there are at least 4 or five in this class that has what it takes, including Michael.
10. Ducks quote in the Richmond Pal-Item newspaper Sunday tells it all. Duck says" that Grimes wrestled better than I did today". That is the mental makeup of this kid. I think that we will see Michael back to his old self come next Friday night. Good luck to you Duck and to Cody as well. Union County is behind you guys all the way.
11. Not making excuses, but my wife called me from New Castle and said that they think Duckworth was injured in some way during the Grimes match. Not verified and certainly not making any excuse, but that is the word.
12. Hope you have a quick recovery Mr. Campbell. I guess the much anticipated match with Cody Phillips will have to wait.
13. 103 Cody Phillips UCo. 34-0 171 Michael Duckworth UCo. 34-0
14. I'd like to put a shout out to the Schaekel kid at 215. He really put it all together for this match. Congratulations young man, you deserve it and I wish you well in the sectionals.
15. I don't think Duckworth has plans on going 189 for state. UCdad may have some insight here. I think it is a strategy move for the conference only. Just my opinion.
16. Is this the draw for Saturday? Duckworth going 189 eh. I bet Rosson of Win. loves to hear that.
17. If the opponent for Duck in the finals is of equal skill, Duck wins on heart, condition and desire. GO DUCK!
18. Here you go: TEC warm-up The Bulldogs won't wait a week to see Chalfant and the Falcons. They travel Tuesday to Winchester for a dual meet. The two teams already met once this season. Winchester won the Shenandoah Invitational on Nov. 29 with a 4-0 record. The Falcons topped Centerville 59-18 there. "That'll be kind of a measuring stick to see if we've grown at all or if we've stayed the same," said Centerville coach Mike Day. "I think we've grown a little bit. We'll see." This is from today's Richmond Palladium-Item sports section.
19. Centerville at Winchester this Tuesday. Winchester has already beaten the Bulldogs once this year. Should be an interesting rematch right before conference.
20. Ok, lets move on and get back to some predictions, guesses and pick some favorites to take conference. Any sleepers that might step up and suprise?? Mine is Rogers defeating Uphaus at 135 again. I think once he did it, he knows it can be done again.
21. You are so right Jason. Everyone hates to lose. Especially when you guys work so hard at your sport. It is a tough pill to swallow. I don't think I would have acted any differently than any of the boys I watched Thursday night. It wasn't that bad. Just competitive kids letting it all go.
22. I really didn't see the C'ville coach doing anything but I am kind of new to the wrestling scene. My earlier comments were in reference to some trash talk during football season. Apparently there were a lot of comments made to Duckworth everytime he got tackled. UCdad can back me up on this. Duck has a good memory. By the way, Centervilles Mr. attitude plays basketball.
23. I don't think Uphaus could believe it either. My wife was taking tickets down near the Centerville bench and could hear the language. He was upset as you would imagine. Uphaus is a tremendous wrestler, but Rogers had his number last night. It should make for one heck of a rematch at conference next week.
24. I guess the Centerville wrestlers (that played football) now know whether Mr. Duckworth is ready to wrestle. Especially the 171 that stormed out of the gym after his match with Duck.
