Monstrous win by Nickal hitting a first period spladle over defending 184lb Big 10 champ Brooks. Heck of a response by their team leader after momentum changed with Hall losing.
They even mentioned former East Chicago head coach Bill Kelly in the broadcast. Coach Kelly hit a spladle to win the individual and team NCAA championships for Iowa State.

Hopefully we can see the brackets
Good luck. They were still fixing them during the finals.

Heard some rumors in the region some possible transfers in the DAC.
-
Unfortunately one of those will have a guy like Miller who is a threat to go through to make the finals.
Should be interesting and then you add undefeated Gantt from NC State.
-
Hopefully when the seeding committee are finished they separate Imar and Nolf. I think they are the two best in the weight class.

I like the pork nachos at Evansville SS
To bad Adrian's in East Chicago doesn't deliver. They have the best pork nachos in the region.

So the conference tournament has no bearing on the conference champion?
The dual season counts for about 75% of the overall championship I believe.
-
They sure did.
What did Portage lose a team point for?
Looks like portage lost 2 team points and MD lost 1 according to trackwrestling. Does anybody know if that is correct?
-
Wow 8 #1's at this trny. Is that a record?
And 6 returning state champs from 2015.

Andrew Davidson wrestled 220 yesterday. Not sure what he's going for the Al Smith.
Also on a side note it was nice seeing Barry Davis of Wisconsin in the stands yesterday at Chesterton vs. Merrillville.
-
not only will they have the spotlight. how does warm up mats and a big warm up area that's available to wresters all day sound?
Will they only let out 3 bleachers? And leave the fourth for warm up areas?

I really hope this tournament goes smoothly or else there is gonna be a lot of unhappy wrestling fans. Atleast they will have some room to breathe seeing as it is the 2nd largest gym in the united states (next to new castle). but will they have the spot lights???
I don't think they currently have spot lights.
-
I think the gym will be big enough. I just hope that they get the proper personnel to run all of the behind the scenes work.

Looks like Gable Steveson tf Kobe Woods twice to win.

I think if the referees had the angle that we saw on ESPN it had a better chance of getting overturned. The camera that they were using for that match looked to be at ground level on the other side of the mat. Looking at the replay that ESPN showed it definitely looked like a takedown according to the college rules.

No school for Griffith tomorrow. Not sure if they will be able to practice.

119 in 2006 I believe, had 3 former state champs Ethan Harris, Eric Galka and returning 119 state champ Anthony Williams.
Harris ended up 7th and Galka lost Friday night.
Merrillville's Javier Salas beat Anthony Williams in OT in the semis. That was a great match.
Salas pinned his opponent in the finals that year.

Does any other individual one on one sports (for ex. Tennis) have blind draws?
-
I know what happened. Its capitalism by forcing all the spectators to utitlize the Merriillville over priced concession stand.
I wasn't at this years tournament but I know in the past they have been reasonable. I've been to some kids tournaments that were way overpriced.
And if you think it was overpriced at Merrillville wait until this weekend.
-
I've said it before, and will say it again. If Merrillville is willing to give up the semi-state and another venue is found, I would be willing to run it.
Maybe the high school you coach at would be willing to host it. Or they can find another venue.

Sounds like we can talk about wrestling again
Best post in the last 2 days.
-
Did you read the first post of the thread?
Just trying to figure who and if they got them before the finals since I'm sure the person who wrote the first post was not at Merrillville.
Bad officiating

At one of the conference tournaments in the region a couple of weeks ago there was a very questionable call on the out of bounds line. The wrestlers were scrambling and there didn't appear to be control as they went out of bounds. The referee awarded the takedown and the coach called him to the table and the referee's response was that "he had a little bit of control".
I was standing near the scores table when this happened.
