    SHHHHHHHH! Coach Welch and The Chad both think that CHS is Castle High School. We told them that CHS was renovated since they left and when they drove here from Lafayette, we had them blindfolded and drove them around for 4 hours so they thought they were back in Paradise.

    CUSAWC and CIA at LN this week, and CHS next week. Wonder if Parham can jumble all those letters around to come up with something awesome. I tried and all I got was a headache. I asked Coach Welch and The Chad...they didn't understand the question! ha!

    Sueflohn and Maple in the room for their first Indiana experience should be great.....but the bigger question is are we going to have a Luke Welch sighting? We want to have a strong man competition in between sessions to find which Welch is the best athlete. I've got an email out to their parents to get permission to do this. We don't want to ruin Thanksgiving dinner with sibling rivalry conversation.

    Room is looking good for our weekend. (insert trendy Instagram-able phrase here about the talent of guys signed up) Super excited about having Jake Sueflohn and Kendric Maple in front of Indiana kids for the first time....and for us to be in front of them!

    First of all, Family Feud was awesome with Richard Dawson until he stared in Schwarzenegger movie Running Man. My days of hair gel are long gone. I don't have the mental ability to proof read because I'm consumed by the question, "which Welch is the strongest?"

    I think the idea would be great, but absolutely brutal to officiate. I think if we are hypothetically thinking of ways to make wrestling more fun, we should look at what Hinkel used to tell us about at Purdue about a professional freestyle league that was in PA in the 80's. (My version is of what I heard here, so might be off on what actually happened) Each team was allowed one substitution per dual meet at a break in action. I think it would be awesome to see a guy score a takedown going out of bounds to tie the score in the third, and the opponents coach throws the block out and inserts the fresh JV guy.

    Come spend the weekend with us at Carmel High School and get the chance to meet and learn from the Purdue University Wrestling Staff. Head Coach Tony Ersland, Assistant Coach Tyrell Todd (Big 10 Champ, 3x NCAA AA), and NEW Assistant Coach Jake Sueflohn (4 X NCAAA Qualifier) will all be in attendance to showcase the techniques that they show at the Big 10 level, and the essential skills that they believe are necessary to succeed at the highest levels of wrestling. Come be seen by the Purdue Wrestling staff, it’s going to be a great camp! Under the direction of head coach Tony Ersland and assistant coaches Jake Sueflohn and Tyrel Todd, the Purdue wrestling program turned a new corner. Last year we had Purdue come in and they put on a heck of a camp. We had 50 campers from all around the state getting better and looking to be seen by our own instate Division 1 BIG 10 school, the Purdue Boilermakers! This is a great opportunity if you are looking to get some training in for preparation of any preseason national tournaments or if you are just gearing up for November when High School Season officially begins. Cost: $100, $70 CUSAWC member, $70 team rate (2 people or more) Location and Time: CHS Wrestling Room, Enter through Door 21, arrive as early as 11:00am Saturday, and 7:30am on Sunday SATURDAY, September 17th *Lunch will not be provided.     The room was awesome this weekend, and Maurer and Coughlin were amazing, but we did learn a couple special things being around this group for 2 days: 1. Nick Lee would be a much better Russian circus acrobat than Joe Lee 2. Brayton Lee really doesn't stop smiling 3. Chris Rumph's back handspring is just slightly better that Bam Lawrence's 4. Welch and Welch are fast 5. We learned what the MCWC truly stands for 6. Doug Welch catches bigger fish than Remo and Eric, and Chad isn't even considered for voting 7. Vega needs to stop wrestling right after shaving 8. Guys from Chicago are insane scramblers 10. Noah Warren does talk less than Eiteljorge There was probably more learned than this, but it's what stuck in our head the most! In all honesty, it was a great room to watch. Coach Maurer and Coach Coughlin were as good as we have been told and we can't wait until we can get them back in our room.

    Pretty fired up about the room this weekend! We told our room at club practice that this will be more entertaining to watch than the state finals because everyone will wrestle everyone. Guys coming from Portage, EMD, Brownsburg, OPRF.....and then add Welch, Welch, Vega, Keith, Maurer, Coughlin as partners.     If Mariusz Pudzianowski has ever taught us anything, (which he hasn't), it's that having a Polish wrestling coach will elevate your discus throwing ability. I thought everyone knew that! Bryce did nail it in the windy regional to earn a place in the State Tourney on Saturday. Not to shabby for a 170lb-er.

    Karam came to workout with us the last couple of summers when he had some free time. He is a good dude....with a pretty good outside carry! Two summers ago, he emailed us to say he was going to be in town driving and was looking for a place to wrestle. Since I'm not so up to date on my racing knowledge, I was more excited about having a guy from Nazareth HS, PA in the room to train with us over the summer, than having a racing guy in the room. It did become apparent that he was someone in the racing world when he had to cancel having lunch with me one day because his manager is also the manager of some chick named Taylor Swift and she was in town so he had to do stuff with her. Sage is also cousins with Luke Karam who won 2 state titles in PA and signed with Lehigh.

Doug Welch will be doing his student teaching at CHS next fall, and Chad decided to follow with him.     Thoughts like this is what got us looking into our Sunday night workouts. In a conversation with another coach about freestyle in Indiana, the phrase, "the Olympics is the pinnacle of our sport" came up in our conversation. One could argue that UFC is the pinnacle of our sport. In conversations in our office we talked about our middle school programs and wondered how many kids in our middle schools could name more than 2 guys that competed in the Olympic trials and then thought how many middle school kids could name 5 UFC guys. When we brought up the idea of running a jiu jitsu workout and the kids were all about it. Then we ran it across some other athletes in our school and they too were all about it. We will see how many our Sunday night workouts bring, but it looks like it's be accepted by the athletes in and out of our program. Time will tell.

    Carmel USA Wrestling is Proud to host a unique opportunity starting this Sunday. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu May 8th, 15th and 22nd 6:00-7:30 Join us in the wrestling room for this amazing workout that will consist of a series of moves/techniques and then conclude with live sparring. BJJ is an amazing workout for any athlete as it brings balance and body awareness as well as focus on a mindset that translates well into all sports! These workouts will be taught by Greg Eldred, owner of Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, LLC, he is one of very few Americans that can claim he's been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 24 year, and he was the first jiu-jitsu instructor in Central Indiana.     There are some great things happening in The Blue Room this time of year. We are currently working on front head offense progression and taking shots from space. Last Wednesday we had 40 kids in the Gold group (grades 8-12) and had 7 coaches working and wrestling with them (all wrestled in college). Gold group (8-12th grade): Wednesday/Thursday: Lift from 5:30-6:30, wrestle 6:45-8:15 Blue group (k-7th grade): Wrestle 5:30-6:30, and we currently have our Middle School Strength program going on right after.
