  1. I remember several times up in the northwest corner of the state, one time in the mid 90s a coach had to be escorted out by police even. That was an odd site, how's that for leading by example?
  2. I remember that one, seemed like a ridiculous (and very unpopular with the audience) call at the time. If I remember though it was called something else so he wouldn't be completely thrown out.
  3. They used to, I thought there was a younger guy there at Al Smith. Was I just imagining that?
  4. Out of curiosity, what upsets do people expect? There should be some close ones.
  5. 189 looks like it should be a little rough too, assuming no upsets the finals should be pretty good. 112 does look like the most stacked there overall though.
  6. Will there be anybody there who can post updates in between rounds?
  7. The Ellis Trophy would be a great respect to an excellent wrestler. It would be one of those things you would have to clear with the family. If my opinion counted for anything I would give that 2 thumbs up. I like incorporating percent pins and tech falls into it. There was a 215 in the finals 5 or more years ago who hadn't had any offensive points scored on him, the guys like that deserve the recognition.
  8. If you wanted to get thorough you could do an overall MVP picked from a grade MVP. So there would be a Freshman MVP, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior as well as the best of the 4. That might get overly complicated, but would be an honor to those younger guys with a lot of skill. Perhaps rather than a tournament MVP, just an underdog award to the kid who breaks out and surprises everyone down at state. wrestlinggods, did you see this as an IndianaMat crew voting, Pro Bowl style voting, or coaches poll?
  9. It looks to me like the lighter weights will be the hardest in this conference, there could be some big upsets if a few guys wrestle their hearts out. I agree Coach Ryan, Battle Royale might be a better descriptor.
  10. Looks like some good ones, RC didn't get as many higher seeds as I would have thought. Are they down this year?
  11. Yes, very long. But better than waiting until tomorrow to just gets W or L.
  12. This is great, with the weather a lot of people can't be there to watch, thanks for all the updates.
  13. Thanks, I'm excited to see them, wish I could see it this year.
  14. Looking at the the Home page and seeing Purdue getting 3 big signings, it looks like they could get strong in the next few years. I'm still not sure they can get a top 3 spot, but I sure hope this Indiana talent will push them higher in the standings. Just interested in other analyses.
  15. 189 will be a fun one, wish I could see it. What was the score when Travis pinned Kauffman?
  16. I saw Schontube a lot, and as a leg rider myself I have to say he was the best I've gotten to see in the past 18 years. I still have video of him and watch it sometimes, I know my kids will be watching that for training.
  17. Is Benner (BC) healthy and at HWT again? Keppner is a lock at 189, Atwood is another that shouldn't have much trouble.
  18. http://indianamat.com/messageboard/index.php/topic,1182.msg11961.html#msg11961 I did some analysis on individuals and Pendleton Heights and Perry Meridian are tied with Jay County in third, they have the most ranked guys with great records and tough competition. LaPorte and Mooresville are tied at 4th. I have all the data for sectional, regional, and semi states if anyone is interested.
  19. Based on the same number crunching I did for determining the toughest SemiState (another thread) I have the top based on # of top 10 guys: #1 - Pendleton Hgts - Perry Meridian #3 - Jay County #4 - LaPorte - Mooresville #6 - Castle #7 - SB Clay #8 - Calumet #9 - Goshen #10 - Richmond There's also a 3 way tie for the weakest with only 2 ranked guys each - Jeffersonville, Peru, Logansport
  20. Yorktown Bellmont could go either way be a few points, depends on who wrestles like they want it. Holt is defending D1 State Champs in Michigan. Bellmont will be an excellent one to watch, team regional will be a packed house.
  21. Things are pretty bad here with ice, no snow. I had to cancel taking out freshmen to Carmel because I couldn't even get out of my driveway.
  22. I would say the '90s for 125 and under, and 2000s for everything after that.
  23. I've gone to almost every state meet since 1991, and Friday night is my second favorite part, aside from the finals. That's when you see heart and determination. You get to see the #1 seeds against the #4 seeds with nothing to lose. As much as anything I always recommend to the kids that they go just to learn new moves and see what determination (or nerves) can do to you. Just talking about it is getting my adrenaline going, we need a countdown to state on the main page!
