  1. As I said, their decisions do not always make sense. However, the party line from their end is making geographic equity, not competitive equity.
  2. It's all about geography. Not saying that their geographical formula always makes sense - it often does not. However, their logic is, has been, and always will be based on geography.
  3. Theron Carrington actually has a loss on his record. Since he was ineligible to be seeded, we didn’t get around to updating
  4. Can't remember exact schools, but there were a couple early in the season where the coach basically told his wrestler "No way, you are just tired. Keep wrestling." This was coming after out of bounds situations where they were able to make eye contact and briefly communicate. Kudos to those coaches.
  5. So about 4 and half times as many from IL than from IN
  6. Small school teams are comprised of individuals who wrestle in a small school environment. It is very difficult to separate the two. Practice partners are one example of the major difference. Not just quality but quantity. At a small school, your appropriately sized practice partner goes down and there is a good chance that you are out of options in or around your weight class for a partner.
  7. Good deal. Then we can agree to disagree and let those on the fence look over the arguments presented and draw their own conclusions.
  8. I was not replying to you. My perspective does not have as much to do with growing the sport. That comes through other means and avenues. My perspective is about doing what is right. Students from small schools are in a completely different world than students from large schools and that should be accounted for in the state series for our individual sports.
  9. If you think allowing students to decide whether or not they should pay attention in class is dangerous, then my guess is you and I are not going to have a productive conversation.
  10. What about this has anything to do with data? Of course it will be easier to get to state if we have two classes. No one is disputing that. @Thor said it best - small schools and small school wrestlers aren't even playing the same game as large schools.
  11. No. For the same reason I don't ask my students if they prefer to have to pay attention in class. Doing what the kids want is a step backwards. As adults, we are supposed to do what is best for their development, not what they prefer.
  12. If this whole "just work hard and you can do it" attitude is valid for all schools, regardless of size, some people from some of these elite programs should start branching off to help grow and enhance the sport. Supposedly we all care about the sport...put your money where your mouth is and come make a difference. Can you imagine how one would be lauded for taking a program like Culver Community and turning them into a school that consistently produces medals at the state tournament? First ballot hall of fame for sure. So...please come and show us. This is not a sarcastic post. This is a genuine request/challenge from a guy who loves wrestling, loves his school, and has two sons who he wants to see have as much love for and success in the sport of wrestling as possible. Interested parties, send me a private message.
  13. Outside the box ideas are great to consider. However, given the history of the IHSAA's approach to all sports' state series, the reality is that they will either do a 2-4 class individual tournament run in a similar format to the one we have now, or they will keep things the same. There is a smaller chance, but still a possibility for us to get sectional-style wrestle backs at every level, but even that is highly unlikely. With the ladies entering the fray in the next year or two, now is the time that we will class, if we ever do. They will make this change across the board in as widely applicable way as possible. This will affect all individual sports not just wrestling. Hypothetically, of course.
  14. That is a new and outstanding point in favor of class wrestling. Well done.
  15. Remind me to invite you to our next call-out meeting for this proportionality pitch. It's sure to drive up numbers immediately. However, I do appreciate your attention to our historical success.
  16. A. You know nothing of our wrestling program, what we do, or who we have had come through. If my statement proves incorrect, expect an apology for the error. B. More appropriate to compare Bellmont (enrollment 641) to Culver Community (enrollment 255). Or perhaps a school like Knox (enrollment 553) compared with Culver Community. Students from each school have an equal probability of reaching the state finals from your perspective? If you had to put your chip on one school or the other, it would be a complete toss-up for you?
  17. We really need to think about putting forward a proposal for classing the individual sport in time for the ladies to be sanctioned. You can already sense at the meets that if the smaller schools have a chance to get a qualifier or two, that will really help boost their programs. If we open fully sanctioned and single-class, the small school programs may be over before they start. Right now, a good, hard working female athlete could set a reasonable goal of qualifying for the state finals in a 2 class ladies tournament. Her qualifying signals to other non-basketball athletes that maybe they should give it a shot. Them qualifying and the first girl medaling makes them all think, "Gee, if we got to a camp and recruited some more girls..." and thus the programs start to build. If we go right in single class, then the same schools will do the same things and in ten years we will all be sitting here wondering what we need to do to get ladies interested in wrestling like they were in 2024.
  18. Sorry, I am a little slow...what does that list represent?
  19. So you would contend that someone from Penn and someone from Culver Community has an equal probability of making the state finals?
  20. Regardless of what it does to attendance, I sure hope no one ever makes a decision for children's activities based on what the fans want to see. That being said, why don't people hold the same fondness for ticket round matches with no wrestle-backs? It is way more exciting to watch a single-elimination 16-wrestler bracket determine who goes to state than allowing first round losers to wrestle all the way back to qualify for a spot.
  21. You had me until the last three words. We should not design children's competitions for fan enjoyment.
  22. You have made an excellent point. Unfortunately, that is not applicable to our sport.
