  1. Really unnecessary! Talking trash about a kid and a family you don't even know! To bad you have to hide behind a screen name. This is the knd of thing that is wrong with this board.
  2. You nailed ittangarrray! Sean has no hard feelings, his blood pressure just goes up a notch this time of year. And he is doing duty at a kid's tournament today.
  3. Things are always said in the heat of competition, especially when you have 2 wrestlers who are both dedicated, emotional & extremely competitive. Ace & Sean have a long history dating back to kiddie wrestling. They have shared the same practice rooms on numerous occasions. When you compete against each other as often as they do and for rival schools (hell they even have some mutual friends) it is only natural that things may boil over now & then. I am only thankful that I don't have to motivate my son, this board does that for me. A rivalry always gets peolple fired up. In every sport it is always "good press"!
  4. Thanks DuneFan! I am Sean McMurray's (only 1 A) father. My wife, son and I do not hide our identity on here. I appreciate the kind remarks. Sean has a true love for the sport and we are very proud of him. We also are region fans and cheer for all the area wrestlers unless of course they are wrestling Sean. And I meant no offense about the "excuse" thing. I know where your coming from. Sean was sick with a fever and throwing up 2 years ago a semi-state, then last year he separated his shoulder at the DAC meet (hense the shoulder brace he has worn since) so we know what it's like to have to wrestle with adversity. Congratulations to the Bulldogs on their well deserved victory. It was great to see a region team win state last year. We drove down just to see it.
  5. CP is undefeated in the conference, M-ville has 1 loss (CP) and Portage has lost to both. The only way (I believe) for CP to lose the DAC is for them to finish 4th at the meet.
  6. Different Torres. We have the Torres brothers, Mike (145) & Julian (103) in our line-up. You're thinking of Mike. Portage also has Damien Torres (119) who is unrelated to Mike & Julian.
  7. DuneFan, I agree with you abot Portage. They only have a couple of kids who wrestle in the off-season and will never jump back into the elite until their wrestlers become more dedicated. As far as Saroff/Torres. The Traicoff match was close with Torres leading a close match until the end, but the re-match was all Saroff. He dominated that match from the opening whistle. I think the other person that was speaking about that match meant that Portage thought that if Torres corrected a couple mistakes he could win this time, of course that did not happen. CP won out right, no doubt. And next year probably won't be any better for Portage. they lose 145, 152, 160, 189 & 285 to graduation. It's a long road to the top!
  8. I'm sorry DuneFan, but "had the flu" isn't a very good excuse. As a wrestler you have to wrestle through sickness & injuries. Every champ out there can tell stories about times they wrestled sick or injured. Some wins, some losses. My son is no different. They suck it up and get after it. Don't try to cheapen a kid's victory with excuses. I didn't hear Flamme or the CP coaches making excuses. Bottom line, if your well enough to put your toe on the line you shouldn't have to make excuses! Flamme & Acuna will probably never wrestle again and if they did the outcome may be different, but Acuna wrestled a good match and it was nice win for him.
  9. I am offended! For myself, my family and all the other "hillbillies" out there. Besides, some of my best friends are pigs!
  10. Actually, Portage has 2 DAC meets left. The last one is next week, after the conference meet. And it was not a snow date. It was originally scheduled that way.
  11. That could be said about any top wrestler! So you don't think Stahl is a top wrestler? They both have a very wide open style, it should be a great match. I'll take Stahl, his runner-up last year and All-American status has earned him that!
  12. Portage has wrestled both, I believe Mishawaka will win easily. They are just too deep. Mish is very solid throughout the line-up with no real weaknesses. I think they may be a better "team" than they were in their championship year a couple of years ago.
  13. Portage has wrestled both and I believe Merrillville is the team to beat. I think it will be close because it is a rivalry, but Merrillville should win.
  14. All I know is Sean went 7-0 (4 pins & 3 techs) at 160#. Don't know Terrell or if he was the BHSS 160# that Sean wrestled. Also from what I could see the Atwood/Eads match was good, looked very close.
  15. Portage has wrestled both! I would have to give it to Mishawaka. They have too much talent and alot of depth. Not to mention that they have been there the last 4 years in a row! Coach Maldanado always gets the most out of his "athlete's". But Mishawaka has alot of talented wrestlers. And I don't think Merrillville will run up the bonus points on Mish. Just my thoughts.
  16. All good responses. no wrong answer to this one. It really does very. Sean started practicing at the age of 7 and competing at 8. As long as your kid is "getting it", and it's not just play time. Then I say any age to start is better than not starting at all.
  17. Portage, Merrillville & Crown Point have never been in the same Sectional as long as I can remember. Portage is in LaPorte, Crown Point is in Crown point, and Merrillville is in Calumet. Crown Point & Portage are in the LaPorte Regional; Merrillville is in the Calumet Regional.
  18. Take care of business your Freshman - Junior years and life can be good when your a Senior!!!!! He better enjoy it now, the game changes next year!
  19. And all these kids have spent their off seasons at Vega Wrestling (before it closed) and at CIA/NW! Hmmm, I see a pattern developing, don't you?
  20. Cheap? I agree the object of wrestling is to pin your opponent. Correct me if I'm wrong but exposing your opponents back to the mat for near fall points is hardly cheap. In college a pin or tech is a rare commodity. Wrestling on your feet or getting a "cheap" turn can be the difference. Wrestling well on your feet can be huge, especially if your opponent is bigger and/or stronger!
  21. Rumors have been that he was weighing about 180. Obviously he has not been practicing much due to injury. I think it's safe to say he won't be there the entire season.
  22. As I said before, looks like Merrillville is the team to beat in the Region. I was hoping for more from Portage. Disappointing night for the Indians. Have to shake it off and get ready for the Traicoff.
  23. I believe the Traicoff is seeded by last year's Traicoff finish.
  24. Actually, it looks as if CP is loaded down low and Merrillville is more balanced. Berry, Nzeta and Travis are all loads. I think the team to beat is Merrillville. Hopefully Portage is up to the task.
