  1. I finally took my tired old body to a meet and The Danville 145 lber impressed me -don't see a state championship or anything but a lot of heart and good balance -don't even know the kids name- McKinney ?-he has some skills but looks like he needs a workout partner as he got himself in and out of some awkward positions but was strong enough to work free -so many small schools need that -another guy in the room pushing him -STEEL SHARPENS STEEL . I look for him to make it out of sectionals .
  2. Dingo-I had the pleasure of coaching both Terrance and Cameron and they were a few years apart but Cameron was afraid to wrestle Terrance in the room because Terrance hurt people -he was a mean aggressive SOB-lived with me when his parents split up for awhile -first match of his career in the 8th grade he got stuck -but he went to every Freestyle tournament with me for the next 4 years and made himself better -Terrance at 125 would tear Cameron at 140-5 alive . Terrance wrestled 112 ,119, 126, 119, 125 . He used to beat up on the 55 145 and 155 lbers to get better . BEST I ever coached -with Jason Albaugh a close second . I only had Jase his 7th grade year then I left Frankfort -Jason was my first champion out of college -he still holds most wins at Wabash .
  3. Perry will not lose in their house !! Tonte will have them ready to wrestle and I hope a legitimate school wins -not some AAU all-star team -that is how Cathedral used to win -they'd give scholarships to kids who were Muslims if they could wrestle -I hate schools that recruit !!! You take the guys you have and turn them into champions-you don't pick and choose other coaches kids and take them into your program -how do you think Lance got there -he was supposed to go to Warren Central-he wrestled us when he was at Stoneybrook .
  4. Lance Ellis used to come over to Indywest to roll around all the time -he was dating a BD matmaid-Heather Schenck-and Terrance used to just wail on him -Lance was just too small-same thing would have happened with Angel-he would have destoyed Lance -we -indywest -were one of the first wrestling clubs on the westside -We'd have Decatur Central/Avon Plainfield/all were welcome . I am not going to say anything bad about the Ben Davis coach because I do not know the man -but our program used to be feared !! Now when I see them place 7th at the Marion County Tournament I feel disappointed and angry -this Hines kid appears to be getting worse each year . As for the best of all time i say David Palmer -9th grade -155-2nd 167 -1st 167-1st 177-1st-Rarely do you see a big man -155 as opposed to 98 -at the state as a freshman . David was untouchable. His brother Bud got DQ'd in NCAA finals for stalling-we didn't have TF's back then so Palmer pinned most his guys or made them wish they were never born .
  5. Ryan Kaufman placed 5th a couple years ago (160) for Rensselaer and James Oliver was 6th in 97 (145) so I think that these two should be mentioned ahead of Moon. Kaufman's only losses that year were to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers at State. Also, Tom Flemming never qualified for state but he would have to be given some consideration as one of the best ever from Rensselaer. I still cannot believe he was beaten his senior year in the ticket round at Merrillville. Of these three I think Flemming was better as he was solid on his feet or on the mat. Kaufman was good on his feet but absolutly punishing when on top throwing in the legs and working his power half. Oliver was very good on his feet and above average on the mat. Moon was good, no doubt about it. But Kaufman and Oliver won over 40 matches their senior years wrestling a tougher schedule. There was a kid named Baker ? from Yorktown who won the state -he was about 5'4'at 145 -beat the hell out of some stud . I would have gone with Benji Reichel except back then Northwest had a really good program-I worked with Benji for a long time and became friends with his family -his brother was a state freestyle champ-Brian -he wrestled at Shortridge his Senior year and was city champion-25 -30 years ago Northwest could hang with any school at any sport -they had a 155 lber named Ragland back then and then Young in the 80-s was a top 145 lber in the state .
  6. Back when I was coaching you needed 6 weighins at 145 if you were a 52 lber trying to cut down -you never actually had to wrestle a match -just beat the scales 6 times . HTH
  7. Does anyone know what's up with Kinser ? -Coughlin 's head is so screwed up he's lost 30f his last 4 matches to EMU,a third string kid from Kent State ,and Harper CC and the match he won he barely got by a Wiconsin White Water kid .Is this all because Kinser refuses to cut to 49 ?
  8. Spencer went to LN-he lost his Jr. year to Randolph -BD-by fall then won the state at 135 the next year .
  9. Oh the merciless mad dog stalking the mats brings back memories! Oh the merciless mad dog stalking the mats brings back memories! The Inpls . Star has always been bad but it is getting worse -they covered the top 4 placewinners in the county and city tournaments -few individual results -I've been fighting with them for 25 years and have made no headrow -for awhile they would print the results brackets but now they post top 4 and to hell with everyone else -I'd like to know what happened to hines at 152 from BD . And when did Roncalli become a county school ? They were always a city school -back in the day BD.WC/DC/and Southport ruled Indpls and people used to fear coming down here , now they come down for Bonus points -Ln/PM Cathedral and Roncalli-soon -every other program has fell way down .
  10. From Carmel-Geib 132 lbs went to NCAA 's fronISU when they had a program Mater dei-too many -Coughlin most recent Belmont Paulie Gunsett-won his state championship match under a ton of pressure LN-Moore 189 went to Purdue and had a fine carreer in the big 10 Cathedral-Lance Ellis 4x state champ Chathedral- Steve Dum 145 coached by football legend Dick Dullaghan Penn-unsure Warren Central-Ellis 98.105 Nob 0unsure Avon Frieje 98/105 Southport-Tonte -just because all he has done for the sport BG-Sullivan -kept losing to Ellis every year PM-Whitter -just because the strong MFer beat me The two better --if not best kids -- were the Palmers from Muncie -all these are off the top of my head so don't yell at me -why you left Ben Davis off is strange -we won every meet from my sophomore year to a year after I graduated in 1976 -I coached their best wrestler -Terrance Randolph 1987 champion at 125 -37-0 with all but 4 matches Falls or TF's .
  11. Actually, yes, we were going to try to do the same for the various divisions. It's obviously more difficult to assemble an accurate list for non-D1 wrestlers. Of course we are proud of our non-D1 wrestlers. However, right now, we are working on D1. Deutsh wrestled well the other night against Super frosh Welch from Northwestern-0-5-good hard match -glad to see him working again.
  12. I'd say a toss up between Cashe and Wright -Harper either doesn't wrestle wide open often enough or people don't wrestle him -but even with 3 titles I have him ranked 3rd at 125 - Is that Belmear from TriWest Steve's son ? Steve , this is Herbp from fulton -if you're out there holler at me.
